Dust 514 has been a long time in coming but publisher CCP has finally announced an official release date. Those who have been waiting for most than three years will be able to play the completed game on May 14.

The game has actually been in beta for quite a while and was actually announced way back in 2009. Since it was first previewed three years ago, there have been multiple guesses as to when it would go live for all to see but those guesses have always been wrong.

Dust 514 is actually part of the larger Eve Online universe. Battles that are fought in Dust will translate to the bigger game. The game is basically just a way to play out some adventures on a smaller scale while still getting the quality of the bigger game.

Because there is a connection to the bigger world this game will allow you to set up different battles using a completely new format. This game will only be available on the Playstation 3 this May.

While the game is actually a companion piece to Eve Online, there is also a companion piece to this particular title. CCP announced that Neocom will be a Playstation Vita companion game for this title.

The company is clearly trying to get Eve out there to as many people who want to play it. The head of the game developer said that by releasing these additions to that universe they are actually making sure that the title will outlive the people who created it.

While that seems to be a bit of a stretch the bigger universe has been incredibly popular. Adding new and different ways to play versions of the world they love so much is only going to endear gamers to the company and what it is trying to do.

Gareth Bale has become only the third player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards in the same season.

The 23-year-old Tottenham forward has enjoyed possibly his best season to date, notching up 19 goals and 4 assists in 29 Premier League games.

However, his win in the Player of the Year category may surprise some, not least the many bookmakers who made Manchester United’s Robin van Persie and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez joint favorites.

Speaking at the awards ceremony itself, Bale said, “It’s a massive honour. To be voted by your peers is one of the biggest things in the game.”

Bale, who won the 2010-11 award, also fought off competition from United’s Michael Carrick and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Juan Mata.

All six players shortlisted for the Player of the Year award made it into the Premier League Team of the Year (below).

In the young player category, Gareth Bale was placed ahead of Hazard, West Brom forward Romelu Lukaku, Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck.

Wales international Bale began his career at Southampton before joining Tottenham in 2007 for £10m ($15.5m).

A versatile goalscorer with a laser-sighted shot and devastating pace, he first came to the rest of the world’s attention in two games against Inter Milan in 2010. With Tottenham 4-0 down at Inter’s San Siro stadium, Bale scored a memorable hat-trick, almost leading Tottenham to a famous comeback (they lost 4-3):

Batman: Arkham Origins is undergoing quite a few changes from where that particular game series has been. The newest change will see a new actor putting the voice to the titular character.

Kevin Conroy is most well known for his gravelly and grating Batman voice but it appears that WB Montreal wants a whole new sort of fresh faced approach to the character in the upcoming game.

It makes sense in the long run that they would be looking for another actor. This game is supposed to take place in a world where our hero is still relatively new and unspoiled. While he’s all about fighting crime while wearing his special suit, he doesn’t have the decades of battles under his belt.

Batman: Arkham Origins‘ main character is going to need to have a different timbre to his voice because of this. This is hardly the first time that a well known voice actor for a long running series has been let go right before a new chapter is set to hit the market.

Much like when we had to find out about David Hayter’s exit from the Metal Gear series through a bunch of tweets and inuendo, the announcement about Kevin Conroy wasn’t made through official channels. In fact, WB Montreal hasn’t said one way or another officially who will be voicing Batman in this version.

Rather the reports that Conroy will no longer be with the series came from a report out of a South African gaming magazine. That report was later confirmed by people inside the development studio.

The company has yet to announce who the new voice actor is going to be, and the company isn’t willing to spill the beans other than to say they are looking for someone younger.

Bridget Jones 3 appears to be having a bit of difficultly getting off the ground. According to Colin Firth, the project is currently “on ice.”

The actor openly discussed the project with no less than two publications in recent days. It would seem that everyone wants to know if the cast will reunite for another sequel.

When asked about the status of Bridget Jones 3 while promoting his film Arthur Newman, Firth told Reuters the project had stalled Although he admitted to teasing fans with the possibility of another movie, he said the sequel is currently “on ice.”

During his chat with the Chicago Sun-times, Colin Firth revealed that moviegoers could be facing a “long wait” for the next installment.

He explained:

“Unfortunately, it might be a bit of a long wait. I wouldn’t say that it’s completely dead in the water, but the way it’s going you might be seeing Bridget Jones’ granddaughter’s story being told by the time we get there,” the actor explained.

He added, “There is a joy of doing those movies that keeps hope alive. And the story is going in an interesting direction. I just wouldn’t say that the movie is imminent.”

Director Andrew Davies’ Bridget Jones’ Diary, an adaptation of Helen Fielding’s popular books, was released back in 2001. Renee Zellweger starred as a woman who decides to keep a diary while she searches for Mr. Right. Colin Firth and Hugh Grant star as the men vying for her affection.

The $25 million romantic comedy proved to be a huge success at the box office. By the time its theatrical run came to a close, the film had grossed a whopping $281 million worldwide.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason arrived three years later. Although the movie made considerably less money in the US, it still managed gross $262 million around the world.

Colin Firth fans can currently catch the actor in the romantic comedy Arthur Newman. The film opened in select theaters on April 26.

Thief  has been a reboot that has been long in the making. If recent reports are to be believed then its going to be just a little longer.

New persistent rumors are swirling that the production for the game has been slowed down by a number of avoidable roadblocks. Internal politics, high level departures and the sudden desire to take the game to the next generation have all gotten in the way of releasing the game in short order.

The game has actually been in development with Eidos Montreal for about five years and there were actually some who wondered whether the title was ever actually going to get the reboot at all.

Thief seemed to get new life when it was announced that it would be going onto the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720. It also seemed like the company had a built in excuse for why it wasn’t getting the game out inside of half a decade.

Despite all of that, there appear to be new problems and new delays that are making the chance that this game is going to be out in 2013 slimmer. The biggest problem has apparently been the ever changing people who were taking over as senior and lead designer.

When these roles would shift to two new people, the vision for the game would change as well. Instead of picking up where the previous team leaders had left it, enough was changed that a rewrite was often needed.

It is, of course possible that the game could still get a 2013 release and that when it does come out everything is perfectly fine and the title wins back all the fans that have been waiting for five years.

These reports should be taken with a grain of salt, since most rumors were spread with the need for anonymity. Still the fact that it has already been five years since the game first got underway it seems like there is at least a grain of truth to the reported problems.

Iraq suspended the operating licenses of 10 TV channels, including pan-Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera, accusing them of escalating sectarian violence in the country.

The suspensions come after Sunni unrest and clashes left more than 180 people dead in under a week. They are likely a signal that the Shiite-led government is worried about the unrest.

The suspensions took effect immediately and will ban the 10 stations from working on Iraqi territory. They were handed down by Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission state, which explained that the news crews will face legal action from security forces if they work inside the country.

The decree essentially keeps the 10 TV stations from reporting on news in the Middle Eastern nation. The suspensions appeared to target mainly Sunni channels who have criticized Prime Minister Nouri al-Malik’s government in the past. Apart from Al Jazeera, the ban affected eight Sunni channels and one Shiite channel.

Mujahid Abu al-Hail, a top official in the Communications and Media Commission, explained of the decision:

“We took a decision to suspend the license of some satellite channels that adopted language encouraging violence and sectarianism. It means stopping their work in Iraq and their activities, so they cannot cover events in Iraq or move around.”

An Al Jazeera spokesman protested the decision on behalf of the station, which is the main broadcaster in the Arab world. The spokesman stated on Sunday, “We urge the authorities to uphold freedom for the media to report the important stories taking place in Iraq.” Al Jazeera added that it was “astonished” by the move.

The channel covered the Arab Spring aggressively and has broadcast extensively on the Syrian civil war. The station is based in Qatar, a country which has been known for backing the rebels in Syria. The country has also been accused of backing protests in Iraq. It is unclear how long the suspension of the 10 TV channels will last.

Joe Montana’s son to the 49ers? It could yet happen.

You’ll recall that 23-year-old Nate Montana has already participated in a San Francisco 49ers local pro day.

Now, it’s been confirmed the younger Montana has been invited to a 49ers rookie minicamp as an unsigned free agent. The camp is due to take place May 10 – 12.

It’s been a good week for sons of NFL legends. Over the weekend, it was confirmed Minnesota invited Duron Carter, son of the Vikings’ all-time leading receiver Cris Carter, to a minicamp of their own.

Whether Joe Montana’s son and the 49ers have a future together is still up for debate, however.

Pundits such as NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks have cast doubt on Nate Montana’s ability to make the step up to the NFL. Speaking earlier this month to the Around The League blog, Brooks remarked:

“It’s going to be hard for him to transition to the next level. His passes don’t have zip. He has difficulty making pro throws. He’s a great kid, his measurables are fine, but in terms of playing at the next level, his performance [at the NFL Super Regional Combine] was not very good.”

NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt was a little kinder about his chances, noting that Montana’s stature – he stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 215 pounds – would boost his chances.

It’s been a long and winding road for Nate Montana so far. His college career began at Notre Dame, but also included spells at Pasadena Community College, the University of Montana, and West Virginia Wesleyan. He’s seen his share of success at college level: At the Division II school last season, Montana passed for 2,480 yards and 19 touchdowns. He topped the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in both categories.

The Miami Heat are looking like the team to beat after sweeping the Milwaukee Bucks out of the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

The defending league champions have actually looked an awful lot like the team to beat all season. Returning the same players that won the team its first NBA title last season is just one of the reasons so many prognosticators have them winning it all.

This is also the team that reeled off an impressive win streak in the middle of the season and if the team can refuse to lose for that length of time, you have to wonder how daunting the playoffs really look to them.

This was the first time that the team has managed a playoff sweep since the “Big 3″ era began. That era is marked by the convergence of Chris Bosh, Lebron James and Dwyane Wade in moves that were designed to make the team exactly as good as its looking right now.

The Miami Heat were led tonight by James who had 30 points on 12 of 20 shooting from the field. King James added eight rebounds and seven assists to dominate the game in several facets.

Coming off the bench, Ray Allen again showed why the team felt he was an important asset to acquire this season. Allen scored 16 points against his former team and averaged 16.5 points per game in the series against the Bucks.

Milwaukee looked every bit of the eighth seed going up against the number one seed in the east, as they lost all four games in the series by at least 11 points.

Now James and Wade will get a couple of days to rest, thanks to finishing off their first opponent so quickly. The team will next face off against the winner of the Chicago Bulls-Brooklyn Nets series. The Bulls lead that series 3-1 with game five coming on Monday night.

The sweep marked a team record eighth straight playoff victory for the Miami Heat dating back to last season.

Manti Te’o got a parade back in his home state of Hawaii on Saturday, perhaps a bit of compensation after the defender once pegged as a top 10 NFL draft pick fell out of the first round entirely.

The Notre Dame linebacker had an incredible regular season, leading one of the nation’s best defenses with seven interceptions and a slew of postseason awards. But then his season hit a big hitch.

Manti Te’o was undressed in the BCS title game against Alabama, looking woefully out of place against a roster stocked with NFL talent. He also saw his draft stock drop after it emerged that his girlfriend who died during the regular season never actually existed and was just an elaborate prank.

Add to that a poor combine performance in which Te’o ran a 4.82 40-yard dash, and draft experts were wondering if the Notre Dame star would be drafted in the first round at all.

It turns out he wasn’t, but not by much. The San Diego Chargers took Te’o in the No. 38 spot, moving up to do so.

People in the home state of Manti Te’o think that’s worth a parade.

“It‘s a dream of a lifetime, after  all these years playing Pop Warner, high school, college and you finally get a chance to get drafted and one of the most talked about athlete in the nation,” says Junior Ah You, Hawaii Sports Hall of Famer.

It was Junior Ah who organized the celebration for Manti Te’o, an event with thousands of pounds of food for both Te’o and his Hawaiian teammate Robby Toma.

“Its gonna be crazy, people will go wild it’s a very unique town, people are all family oriented, it will be lots of fun, lots of excitement there will be lots of spirit here,” Ah You said.

Despite all the drama that surrounded Te’o this year, residents in his Hawaiian hometown still love him.

“A lot of kids that is younger than him that go to Kahuku High School, they alllook up to him, he’s a good kid,” said  Kahuku resident Kahea Freitas.

The parade for Manti Te’o took place Saturday afternoon, just a few hours after Te’o officially became a member of the Chargers.

Ghostbusters 3 could start shooting as early as next year.

Although this isn’t the first time fans have heard this story, apparently Dan Akyroyd thinks it’s actually going to happen. The actor said he believes that filming could begin on the long-awaited sequel during the early part of 2014.

“I feel re-encouraged, re-invigorated by the [script] pages that I have seen. I know that we’re expecting half of the screenplay to be completed very soon,” Dan Aykroyd told ABC News.

If Aykroyd is telling the truth, then pre-production could begin this fall. This is certainly good news for fans who were wondering Ghostbusters 3 would ever get off the ground. The question remains: Is the screenplay any good?

The actor said the new script is “pretty exciting.”

He added, “The Higgs Boson and the particle theories, gluons and mesons, that really gives us a scientific base in terms of our fictional storytelling, to open up to another dimension and have something horrible coming through.”

Dan Aykroyd also believes most of the key players who made the original film so memorable would return for Ghostbusters 3. However, it’s still unknown if Bill Murray will sign on for the project. According to Aykroyd, fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up.

Despite the numerous setbacks, Dan seems very optimistic about the sequel’s chances:

“I’ve been more encouraged than I ever have been. It sounds real now. We’ve got a sharp new writer on it, Ivan [Reitman] is on it, Harold [Ramis] is on it, I’m on it. And if I can put the catch-net on Billy [Murray] and bring him in, it will be wonderful, if he decides to do it.”

Since this isn’t the first time someone has talked about getting Ghostbusters 3 in front of the camera, this writer will believe it when he sees it.

Xbox 720 rumors are starting to swirl even faster and more furiously than they were a month ago, if that’s even possible.

With the next Xbox officially announced, reports are starting to surface that are a little more trustworthy about just what the next generation console has to offer. With less than a month to go before we get our first real look at the device some of the juicier reports indicate that this console will come with a DVR function of sorts.

According to Polygon sources, one of the coolest features of this device is that the DVR function will actually be able to capture different highlights from your gameplay.

Xbox 720′s DVR feature would allow you to basically record that achievement that you hit that you just need to tell the world about and allow you to upload it to YouTube or Twitter. This actually seems to be the same kind of video capturing installation that the Playstation 4 has already confirmed it will include.

While that might seem like a bit of copycatting, there are plenty of smartphones that all do virtually the same thing except for a tweak here or a tweak there. It seems that both next generation consoles will be looking to beat each other out by focusing on smaller details to set one another apart.

One of those small points that may lure gamers in is the way Microsoft is said to be handling achievements on the new device. Reports indicate that developers will be able to update different achievements for a game any time after it has been released.

This is a rather major change for achievement hunters who are used to having to wait for an entire DLC pack to land. This kind of a tweak is certainly not going to be something everyone cares about, but hard core gamers will certainly sit up and take notice.

The Xbox 720 is due to be revealed on May 21 and we should get confirmation on some of these rumors then.

Gunmen surrounded the Libyan Foreign Ministry in Tripoli on Sunday, calling for a ban on officials who worked for the country’s former dictator, Muammar Gaddafi.

The armed protest came just days after the French embassy in Tripoli was bombed. The protest also raised fresh security fears in the capital, causing the German embassy to suspend some of its activities.

At least 20 pickup trucks loaded with anti-aircraft guns blocked traffic while men with sniper rifles and AK-47s directed traffic away from the Foreign Ministry.

Armed groups also attempted to storm the Ministry of Interior and the state news agency, though their efforts were not successful. The nation’s prime minister Ali Zaidan called a news conference to address the situation, saying:

“These attacks will never get us down and we will not surrender. Those who think the government is frustrated are wrong. We are very strong and determined.”

Libya has been full of weapons and roving armed militias since Gaddafi was toppled by Western-backed rebels two years ago. While militias were banned in September and some Islamist militant militias were run out of the country by citizens, there are a few who still remain. They have been seen increasingly targeting state institutions.

Tensions between the two sides have been increasing since a campaign was launched by the government to dislodge the militias from their strongholds in the capital. Sunday’s protest was made to demand a law to be passed that would ban Gaddafi-era officials from holding senior government positions.

Depending on the wording of the law, having it enacted could force out several ministers and the congress leader. The foreign ministry has also been targeted because some officials working in the building had worked for Gaddafi. But the General National Congress, Libya’s legislature, was previously prevented from voting on the law when protesters barricaded some assembly members inside a building for several hours in March.

The protesters were demanding that the legislature adopt the law. It is not clear how long the protest at the Libyan Foreign Ministry will last.

Connie Britton recently said that she’d love to do a Friday Night Lights movie.

The actress was one of the many celebrities in attendance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday. When E! Online managed to snag her attention on the red carpet, they asked the Nashville star about the possibility of a movie.

“I would love it to happen. I’m a big supporter of it happening. I don’t know if we will see it or not,” Connie Britton said about the flick.

She continued, “I know it was being written and Peter Berg is really serious about so I think if everybody got on board, I don’t see why we couldn’t have a movie.”

Peter Berg directed the 2004 adaptation of Friday Night Lights. Following the success of that endeavor, he would develop Buzz Bissinger’s novel into a television series for the folks at NBC. Britton starred as Sharon Gaines in the show.

Berg said he was interested in getting the cast back together for movie that would essentially pick up where the series ended. The director stated in 2012 that getting everyone back together would be the biggest hurdle.

He explained that everything would come together “if we can get everyone in the same room at the same time, we all want to do it. We’re not done with ‘Friday Night Lights.’”

Although Connie Britton and Peter Berg seem to think the cast will eventually come back for the Friday Night Lights movie, John Carter star Taylor Kitsch said in a 2012 interview that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue the story.

“Pete [Berg] knows this as much as anyone else — I love the way that we ended the character of where he’s at. I love playing him, but I think I want to leave him the way that it is,” the actor explained.

Mark Sanchez isn’t going anywhere … at least for now.

The onetime starting quarterback for the New York Jets has lost the grip on the No. 1 job he once held, but seems to be coming back next year for another shot.

Despite leading the team to two consecutive AFC Championship games in his first two seasons in the league, Sanchez has struggled since then and at the end of 2012 saw his starting job go instead to rookie Greg McElroy.

Though it seemed as if the Jets would cut loose Sanchez in the offseason, a new report said the team plans on keeping him at least through the preseason to compete for the starting job.

It will be quite a competition. The Jets drafted top-ranked quarterback prospect Geno Smith from West Virginia in what seems to be a bid to find a new franchise quarterback.

Keeping Mark Sanchez is more a matter of economics than anything. The team owes him $8.25 million this season whether he is on the roster or not, so they will essentially get a free look at him.

The entirety of the quarterback depth chart for the New York Jets is up in the air. The team now has six quarterbacks on the roster — Sanchez, Smith, McElroy, Tim Tebow, David Garrard, and Matt Simms. Tebow isn’t expected to be part of the equation, likely being cut sometime before the start of training camp.

Despite the muddled quarterback situation, Jets coach Rex Ryan said he’s happy with Sanchez.

“We will be confident at that quarterback position,” Ryan said after the draft. “I don’t think there is any doubt about it. I have confidence in Mark Sanchez. I have confidence in all the guys and that’s just the way it is. That’s the truth. I’ve said it before, we’ve won lots of games with Mark Sanchez at quarterback. In fact, I think our football team, since I’ve been here as a head coach, has actually won more playoff games than the New England Patriots. I’m just throwing that out there. It feels like it gets lost.”

Mark Sanchez appears to be on board with the New York Jets as well. He reportedly hasn’t asked for a trade or release since the team drafted Smith, and he’s ready to go into team activities this summer.

The price of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is no laughing matter. Those who put off buying the 2013 sports car model may regret waiting.

Chevy’s latest Corvette model will have a starting price of $51,995, including a $995 charge for delivery. The price is $1,400 more than the current version. And for those who want a convertible? That’ll cost at least $56,995.

But while the price is higher, C7 owners will get a little more for their money than they did with the 2013 model. The base version of the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray will match the power and performance of the mid-range 2013 Corvette Z06.

The seventh generation Corvette will have a 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine and produces 450 horsepower. Buyers will be able to choose from a seven-speed manual transmission with rev-matching, or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

And to make sure drivers get the most for their money when it comes to horsepower, Chevy also shaved off almost 100 pounds from the new model using a carbon fiber hood and removable roof panel for the coupe, along with an all-aluminum frame.

The new frame also improved the car’s stiffness by 57 percent. Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, stated:

“The [2014] Corvette Stingray delivers a combination of performance, design and technology that very few manufacturers can match, and none can even come close for $52,000.”

Both models will also contain improved interior materials and a touchscreen based infotainment system. While the base model for the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray is fantastic to begin with, there are a few options worth noting that will make the company’s iconic sports car even better.

Notably, the Corvette will offer a magnetic active suspension system for $1,795. Another option will be a Z51 suspension package priced at $2,800 and a full leather-wrapped interior upgrade for $8,005. A fully-loaded 2014 Corvette will cost about $73,360.

Rocky the musical is going to be throwing some serious punches on Broadway starting in 2014.

One of the most famous lines from the titular character in the original movie was when Adrien asks Sylvester Stallone’s character why he took up boxing. Stallone answers that he “can’t sing or dance.” While he might not be able to, there is quite a bit of singing and dancing going on in the stage adaptation.

Stallone, who wrote the screenplay and actually received Oscar nominations for that writing launched the musical in Germany in 2011. Now his new project will be making it to the bright lights of New York next year.

The Rocky musical was also conceived by the long time actor and director and will have a book by Thomas Meehan (The Producers, Hairspray) as well as a score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime). Young and up and coming director Alex Timbers will guiding the action on stage.

Early reports said that the production for this show might run as high as $30 million but those rumors have been shot down by producer Bill Taylor. Taylor said that because they have already put together the production in Germany he believes it won’t cost any more than $15 million to bring it stateside.

Should the production approach that $30 million price tag it would be one of the most expensive shows in Broadway history. It doesn’t sound like there are going to be many changes to the actual script between now and when the show arrives in New York.

There have not been any actors hired for the show just yet, though it would make sense that the producers are in the process of starting their search. Preview performances for the musical are expected to begin in February at the Winter Garden Theater.

The Rocky musical is just one of a number of projects that Stallone has one his plate as he is also getting set to go into production for The Expendables 3.

Courtney Stodden and plastic surgery rumors have previously gone hand-in-hand, with the reality TV star having gone to all sorts of lengths to prove herself a natural beauty.

Hence, we’re saying nothing about her latest outing: Lunch with her plastic surgeon and mom at a swanky Beverly Hills restaurant.

The 18-year-old, who’s married to 52-year-old Green Mile actor Doug Hutchison, was spotted chowing down on a salad at Lisa Vanderpump’s swanky Villa Blanca restaurant in Beverly Hills.

Her lunch companions were mother (and manager) Krista Stodden and plastic surgeon Dr. Tim Neavin. Neavin, who operates from his “Artisan of Beauty” surgery in Beverly Hills, specializes in breast and body surgery. Hubby Doug was nowhere in sight for the Friday lunch date.

The teenager was happy to pose for shots on her way out of the restuarant. Decked out in a tight-fitting leopard print dress, Stodden tottered her way to a waiting car in towering wood and cork heels.

What did the trio talk about? As we say, our lips are sealed.

Courtney Stodden found fame when, aged 16, she signed up on the Internet for an acting workshop taught by Hutchison. That kicked off a courtship between the pair, who fell in love online before meeting up.

Upon finding out about Stodden’s real age, Hutchison told mom Krista, who had monitored their online exchanges and was aware of their relationship and their age difference, that he would cease his relationship with Stodden if her parents disapproved. The couple married in 2011, to much outcry over their age difference.

Dozens of air shows are being cancelled this summer as US military cutbacks have left airplane fans in the lurch.

The air shows are the victims of federal cuts from the sequester, which struck the military hardest. It means that the biggest draw of summertime air shows — the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force’s Thurderbirds — will remain on the ground this air show season.

While the aerial acrobatics of the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds will be missed, the cutbacks also affected the other military planes that were a staple of air shows. This included the F-16, F-18, and F-22 fighter jets as well as the U.S. Army Parachute Team.

Without the stable of military planes to draw in crowds, more than 60 of the 300 air shows scheduled this summer have been cancelled and many more are expected to be call off shows.

With the air shows cancelled, a piece of American history is also being cut off. Air shows had become a summer piece of Americana much like baseball games or fireworks, but now many of them will be lost, possibly forever. Before being grounded this year, Blue Angels had flown every year since the Korean War, the team’s lead pilot noted.

The cancellations are expected have a continued impact on the organizations putting on the shows.

“The worst case is that they either cancel and go out of business, or they don’t cancel and they have such poor attendance and they go out of business,” said John Cudahy, president of the International Council of Air Shows.

Some businesses relied almost entirely on the air shows, and now that these shows are cancelled many business owners are upset.

“I just think it’s sad that there are political games being played. I doubt the Blue Angels are even half of 1 percent of the entire Navy budget,” said Lloyd Proctor, co-owner of Blue Angel Hot Tubs in Pensacola.

Businesses aren’t the only ones who will be hurt now that air shows are cancelled. Many of the shows, like the one in Indianapolis, were used as fundraisers for charities that are now without an important source of revenue.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 is going to be canceled, according to persistent rumors from people inside of Electronic Arts.

Electronic Arts has been having a heck of a bad 2013 and it appears that 2014 is going to hurt the company a little bit too if the latest rumors are true. Having to cancel a long running sports series because they simply don’t have the staff to work on it seems to be an indication of something worse coming down the pike.

Kotaku is reporting that inside sources have said that next year’s version of the Tiger Woods golf game is going to be canceled after previous plans were scuttled. Those plans were apparently made by former CEO John Riccietello.

After the CEO left the company, plans to ship the development of the game outside the company were done away with. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 is now apparently just canceled completely. 

The plan to ship the development off to someone else was apparently scrapped as another in a long line of cost saving maneuvers. The game has also not been given to another in-house development team which is what has insiders believing that EA is going to be taking at least a year off.

Worse news still for fans of the series is that rumors persist that members of the team that has worked on the game in the past have been moved onto other development squads.

EA sports in general is said to have lost about 10 percent of its workforce. That could mean that the game is not so much canceled for one year as it is canceled for good.

There have been few sports games that have managed to take a year off and come back strong enough to continue later. Sports game fans expect a new version every year and if that new version doesn’t come, they tend to move on.
