Todd Harrell 3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell has been arrested for allegedly causing a crash that killed another driver on the streets of Nashville late Friday night, according to local authorities.

Harrell was taken into custody and charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication following the fatal incident. This isn’t the first time the 3 Doors Down bassist has been arrested. In July 2012, the 41-year-old musician was charged with driving under the influence after crashing into a pickup truck in Mississippi.

This time, Todd Harrell’s actions allegedly caused the death of 47-year-old Tennessee resident Paul Howard Shoulders Jr, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

An initial investigation by police reportedly indicated that Harrell was speeding through the Nashville suburb of Hermitage when the fatal crash occurred.

The 3 Doors Down bassist apparently struck Shoulder’s Ford pickup, sending it crashing into a guard rail. The truck continued down an embankment, flipping upside down as it landed, and throwing the man from his vehicle.

Paul Shoulders was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the crash.

Meanwhile, according to police, Harrell’s car smacked into a retaining wall and came to a stop roughly a quarter of a mile from the site of the initial impact.

The 3 Doors Down bassist was arrested after failing field sobriety tests administered at the scene. Police indicate that “he acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Zanax” prior to getting behind the wheel.

Once Harrell was taken into custody, police reportedly discovered several controlled substances hidden in the 3 Doors Down bassist’s sock. His concealment of eight Xanax, four Oxymorphone, and 24 Oxycodone pills resulted in an additional charge of bringing controlled substances into the jail after being arrested.

Todd Harrell is one of the original members of 3 Doors Down, best known for their mega-hit “Kryptonite.” The band released a brief statement on its official website after the bassist was arrested:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders Jr. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Nurses Overwhelmed With Burdensome Paperwork

Nurses are overwhelmed with the administrative task of regulatory paperwork. Instead of dedicating their time to patient care, UK nurses spend a fifth of their shift on non-essential administrative tasks. Those in the US use nearly a quarter of their time on indirect patient care.

Updating patient charts is an essential aspect of nursing, but according to the Royal College of Nursing, staff spends more of their day performing non-medically related administrative work – filing, photocopying, and ordering supplies. This is due to a chronic lack of administrative workers and a failure to invest in new IT systems that would limit repetitive data entry.

Due to the regulatory nature of healthcare, some of these redundancies will never be eliminated, but certainly need to be reassessed to minimize the time on non-essential work.

In addition to redundant information recording and lack of staff, some institutes require especially assiduous note-taking regarding the basics of patient care, including the frequency of how often the nurses speak to patients. Imagine noting every conversation you had in a day, work related or not.

A survey of over 6,300 nurses in the UK revealed the amount of hours invested in unnecessary paperwork has doubled over the last five years; 86 percent stating the burden had worsened and inhibited their ability to perform their patient duties. A quarter stated their workplace didn’t have a ward clerk, an employee who keeps records and does other general office work, on staff.

A similar survey conducted by Jackson Healthcare, a Georgia-based healthcare staffing and management company, interviewed 1,600 hospital-based nurses and found that 75 percent of them spent one-quarter of a 12-hour shift on indirect patient care services.

Nurses stated the reasons they were pulled away from patients were to document information in multiple locations, completing logs and checklists, reviewing orders, and walking equipment to supply areas and utility rooms.

A manifesto from the Royal College of Nursing in Scotland suggests medical institutes should hire on an adequate number of ward clerks and administrative staff. In addition, the information systems used should be linked in such a way as to not require reentry of the same data.

Governments have pledged to crack down on the bureaucracy, as the lessening of non-medically related paperwork tasks in the nursing staff would vitally improve care standards for patients.

China Quake Kills 200 In Sichuan

An earthquake in China has taken the lives of more than 200 people and left more than 1,000 seriously injured, according to the latest reports. Rescuers were still struggling to reach the hardest hit areas in Sichuan province on Sunday, one day after the 6.6 quake struck.

The earthquake is the worst the country has seen in three years. The majority of the dead lived in Lushan county, the same area where a massive 7.9 quake struck in May 2008. The death toll for that incident was 70,000.

Rescuers’ efforts were hampered on Sunday by the narrowness of the road, as well as landslides. The government also put controls in place to restrict access and avoid traffic jams. Kevin Xia of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, stated:

“The Luchan county center is getting back to normal, but the need is still considerable in terms of shelter and materials. Supplies have had difficulty getting into the region because of the traffic jams. Most of our supplies are still on the way.”

Relief workers from across China gathered in Ya’an to assist with earthquake recovery. They expressed frustration with the lack of access to Lushan and other villages in need of help. Along with traffic jams, landslides and collapsed roads have prevented workers from reaching the villages hit hardest by the quake in China.

Soldiers worked through the night to search for survivors of the China quake in villages where houses were destroyed. The country’s new Premier Li Keqiang rushed to the disaster zone. He was seen by CCTV eating breakfast in a tent. He spoke with state media, explaining, “The rescue effort is our first duty.”

More than 17,000 Chinese soldiers, pilots, and police have joined in the rescue operation. Five drones were also sent to capture aerial images of the damages. Meanwhile, doctors and nurses in Lushan tended to the wounded in tents and in the open on the grounds of the main hospital.

While thousands of homes collapsed during the quake in China, no schools collapsed, unlike in 2008. Many poorly constructed schools collapsed, prompting a nationwide campaign of re-building to make structures more earthquake-proof.

Shots Fired in Denver Pot Rally

Two men are wanted for questioning after allegedly firing several shots during a 4/20 pot rally in Denver’s Civic Center Park on Saturday. Thousands of rally attendees fled the scene and three people were injured during the shooting.

According to police a man and woman were both shot in the leg and are receiving non life-threatening treatment at a local hospital.

A third victim was grazed by a bullet but was able to walk under their own strength to a local hospital.

Also injured was a dog that belonged to one of the victims. The pet was seen limping away from the scene of the gun shots.

Other injuries were sustained as several rally members were trampled while running away from the gunfire.

According to Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson, “Everybody in this world has a camera nowadays, so if anybody has any pictures that might assist us, we’d like those as well.

7News reporter Russell Haythorn said “four to five shots [were] fired” at approximately 5:02 on Saturday evening.

Police officers were already on scene for Colorado’s first legalized pot rally and those officers were closely monitoring crowd security when the shooting occurred.

Marijuana is still technically illegal in Colorado, however with the passing of a new state law officers were told to look for suspicious activity and not to arrest pot smoking individuals. Security was on heightened alert following the Boston marathon bombings.

Police describedthe first shooter as a light complexioned black man, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. At the time of the shooting the man was wearing a gray hoodie, black pants and a Carolina blue baseball cap.

The second person of interest is a black man who was wearing a checkered black and white shirt. No description has been given for the second man.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the shooters contact the local Sheriff’s office immediately.

Boston bombing interview

Aside from Uncle Ruslan, most family members of Boston bombing suspects Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev believe that the two brothers are innocent, and the subjects of a massive conspiracy or “setup.” Blaze reporter Buck Sexton invited Maret Tsarnaev, the aunt of the two suspects, onto his show to debate that theory, with the conversation turning sour pretty quickly.

Sexton worked with the Central Intelligence Agency and the New York Police Department’s counter-terrorism intelligence unit before his journalism career, and has extensively covered the Boston bombing story all week. For his part, he believes the narrative: That the two suspects are guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt due to the overwhelming evidence supporting the idea that they organized and carried out an act of terror at the Boston Marathon.

Maret believes the opposite: That the two boys were framed, and are completely innocent. Sexton invited her onto his program to defend her perspective, but the conversation didn’t exactly go well.

“I have to ask you… You have doubts about the guilt of your two nephews, is that what you’re telling me now?” asked Sexton.

“It’s not even doubts. I strongly believe these boys are innocent,” Maret responded.

Immediately, Sexton went on the offensive.

“Why would you ever believe that, Ms. Tsarnaev? Why would you ever believe that? You don’t believe the photos? Why were they in a gunfight with law enforcement agents? Why was one of them found with an IED on his body?…. I worked for NYPD Intelligence, I know the guys who were out there doing this, they’re not liars, they’re brave Americans. Why would they make any of this up?”

Maret balked. “If that happened, why don’t we have any materials that can be shown to people?”

“We have tons of material! We have photos, we have eyewitnesses!” Sexton quickly rebuffed.

“Where are they? All I hear on the public TV is, you know, ‘these officials said this. Those officials said that,’ ” Maret exclaimed.

From there, Sexton went on a rant as Maret interrupted him repeatedly.

“We have surveillance footage! We have the dead body of one of your nephews who was in a shootout with police. He had an IED strapped to his chest. Ms. Tsarnaev, they are accused of killing an 8-year-old boy. You have got to be kidding me! An 8-year-old boy! A foreign exchange student! Another young woman! 180 people! You know what? You’ve made — your case is nonsense. I can’t take it. They are going to face the full weight of justice. You called in, you had your say, we know what’s happening now.”

Sexton ended with the stinger:

“I’m sorry but I can’t take it anymore. Two terrorists: one down, one to go.”

What do you think? Was Sexton too hard on Maret Tsarnaev, or should she accept the narrative? You can listen to the exchange below via The Blaze and Mediaite:

Jennifer Lawrence stepped out with a new short haircut this weekend at the GLAAD Media Awards.

The Hunger Games actress chopped off her blonde locks in favor of a shorter, shoulder length haircut. According to Just Jared, she was also wearing a David Koma dress and Nicholas Kirkwood shoes.

Harper’s Bazaar reports that stylist Mark Townsend gave Jennifer Lawrence her new haircut.

Townsend said: “Yesterday, Jennifer showed up an hour before call time and as she opened the door she was like ‘Mark I want to cut it all off.’ I was like ‘What? Are we allowed to do that?’ And she said ‘Of course, it’s my hair!’”

Townsend also posted a photo of Jennifer Lawrence to his Instagram account, writing: “New haircut for the fearless Jennifer Lawrence!!”

Lawrence was at the GLAAD awards to present President Bill Clinton with the Advocate for Change Award. And in typical Lawrence fashion, she adorably screwed up. Lawrence tripped over her lines and accidentally read the words of her co-presenter, Harvey Weinstein.

When Clinton took the stage he poked fun at his young presenter. Clinton said that Lawrence was “like 2-years-old” when he became president and said that he felt like a dinosaur standing next to his young presenter.

Clinton said: “I met her backstage and she looked like she was touring the museum of natural history. Oh, this is what dinosaurs look like.”

What do you think of Jennifer Lawrence’s new haircut?

‘Oblivion’ Claims Top Spot At Weekend Box Office

Oblivion Tom Cruise Box Office

The Tom Cruise sci-fi flick Oblivion has claimed the top spot at the box office over the weekend.

The latest effort from TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski pulled in a tidy $38.2 million since its release on Friday. These numbers reflect the business the film generated when it opened in select theaters on Thursday evening.

Oblivion marks a return to form for star Tom Cruise, who has watched as his past few endeavors have failed to earn the sort of money the Hollywood A-lister is accustomed to bringing in. Both Rock of Ages and Jack Reacher were considered box office disappointments in North America.

Although Adam Shankman’s musical tanked around the world, Christopher McQuarrie’s adaptation of Lee Child’s novel One Shot managed to connect with audiences in foreign markets. The film would go on to make around $136 million overseas. This has prompted the suits at Paramount to reconsider a sequel.

Kosinski’s Oblivion has also found a foothold in foreign markets. The film has already earned a solid $112 million overseas, bringing the film’s international total to an estimated $150 million. This figure has already surpassed the movie’s estimated $120 million production budget.

Universal’s Nikki Rocco told the Los Angeles Times that Cruise’s appeal helped bring moviegoers into theaters.

“An original concept did this well? It’s like we’re in church and bells are going off. Tom Cruise is charismatic and a great actor, and people recognize that,” she remarked.

Coming in at a distant second was writer-director Brian Helgeland’s baseball drama 42. The film, which follows Jackie Robinson’s historic signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers, pulled in $18 million over the past three days. This brings the flick’s box office total to $54 million.

The DreamWorks comedy The Croods continued to perform well; the flick made an additional $9.5 million over the weekend. This brings its international total to an impressive $397 million. Scary Movie 5 ($6.3 million) and G.I. Joe: Retalation ($5.8 million) rounded out the top five.

The top 10 films are listed below.

1. Oblivion – $38.2 million
2. 42 – $18 million
3. The Croods – $9.5 million
4. Scary Movie 5 – $6.3 million
5. G.I. Joe: Retaliation – $5.8 million
6. The Place Beyond the Pines – $4.7 million
7. Evil Dead – $4.1 million
8. Olympus Has Fallen – $4.5 million
9. Jurassic Park 3D – $4 million
10. Oz The Great and Powerful – $3 million

Did you catch Oblivion in theaters? What do you think about this weekend’s box office results?

Florida Sues BP Three Years After Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Florida Sues BP Over Oil Spill

On the third anniversary of the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast the state of Florida has filed a lawsuit against the oil company and cement contractor Halliburton.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill infected a 1,100 mile swath of area along beaches and marshlands. The spill according to Florida officials led to a massive decline in the number of summer tourists.

Florida is now the fourth state to file a lawsuit against BP and Halliburton.

In the lawsuit Florida officials claim negligence over BP’s failure to change the batteries on the rig’s blowout preventer. Halliburton is blamed with installing faulty cement barriers that should have protected against increases in oil pressure. In the lawsuit Florida’s attorneys write:

“BP knew or should have known that the manufacturer recommended replacement of the batteries in the battery packs at least once per year,” the suit said. Divers later couldn’t manually turn it on, either. The suit also blames BP for installing a defective valve on the same blowout preventer.”

The lawsuit has been filed in US District Court in Panama City. That particular federal court makes decisions regarding the 1990 Oil Pollution Act.

The explosion and subsequent spill left 11 rig workers dead. Florida filed its lawsuit on the third anniversary of the tragedy. Mississippi filed a similar lawsuit on Friday. Both Louisiana and Alabama had already filed lawsuits of their own.

During the third anniversary of the BP oil spill the company’s BP America Chairman and President John Mingé said:

“On the third anniversary of the tragic accident in the Gulf of Mexico, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our 11 colleagues who died and those injured.”

In seeking damages Florida notes that nearly 85 million people visit the state each year, generating $80 billion for businesses. The state argues that much of that money was lost in sales taxes, cigarette surcharges and the sale of beer, wine and liquor.

In the complaint attorney’s write ”Without this level of tourism, Florida suffers, as do many of the local people and communities who are supported by it.” The complaint also states that BP “publicly acknowledged that it would cover or otherwise make funds available for damages … as a result of the spill.”

Do you think BP should honor its promise and pay back the loss of funds suffered by Florida’s business owners?

Game of Thrones episode 4

For every Game of Thrones fan, life between Sundays is scarcely more than a painful waiting game, and the coming week is forecasted to be one of the longest after the major developments that are supposed to take place in tonight’s ”And Now His Watch Is Ended.”

SPOILER ALERT: We’ll briefly discuss last week’s “Walk of Punishment,” as well as tonight’s episode.

I don’t know about you, but it’s been one of those long weeks for me since “Walk of Punishment” last week. With episode four coming tonight, we’re just about through all of the new scenes we were treated to in season three’s trailers …

… Including Jorah’s philosophizing: “There’s a beast in every man, and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand,” Mance Rayder’s introduction and chilling threat: “I’m going to light the biggest fire the North has ever seen!” and Dany’s search for an apparently nipple-less personal army.

And after last week? Well, what can be said except that Jaime Lannister is in a bad way, and definitely “in need of a hand,” if you know what I mean.

It has been a long week indeed.

But as season three of Game of Thrones moves along at a brisk pace, finely adapting what is arguably George R.R. Martin’s most shocking and busy novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, tonight’s entry is expected to up the ante once again.

This isn’t The Walking Dead, where producers promise dramatic developments and character deaths only to barely deliver when comes season finale time. This is Game of Thrones. The story speaks for itself, and when insiders talk, it’s worth listening.

“And Now His Watch Is Ended” is said to contain the first “truly epic moment” of season three thus far, according to showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff. While those who have read the novels can probably guess at what’s to come, everyone else is in for a real stir.

“We always knew it was going to be one of the big ones,” Weiss said. “That was one of the scenes I remember reading it for the first time in the books and being so swept away by it. I remember thinking [that] if we could ever get this to series and we could ever get to season three, we’d actually be able to put that scene on screen.”

Expect big things from Margaery Tyrell, as well. Of her character’s arc this season, actress Natalie Dormer told TV Guide: ”The Tyrells have come and arrived at King’s Landing, underestimating the situation. They think that they can control the Lannisters and can take them on. They’re going to get a nasty shock.”

She adds that Margaery is trying to figure out “what makes Joffrey tick” so that she can control him. Not for her own power, but for the good of the kingdom. Still, Dormer ominously warns: “Margaery is not safe.”

You can check out a preview for tonight’s ”And Now His Watch Is Ended” below. Are you a fan of Game of Thrones?

MTV Buckwild

Sorry, Buckwild fans. MTV just can’t stomach another season of the hit reality series, or a revival on another network after the death of the show’s breakout star Shain Gandee.

MTV’s cancellation of Buckwild left producer J.P. Williams (and the cast) furious. He most recently vowed to revive the show with a new cast in a new location, even on another network if need be.

“There was no explanation,” Williams, manager to eight Buckwild cast members including the late Gandee, told The Hollywood Reporter after the show’s cancellation. “My job is to protect these kids … This will get ugly.”

He also said that he’d keep shooting Buckwild anyway, and was attempting to shop the concept to other networks. The only problem is that MTV could block him from doing so by refusing to turn over the rights to the show, which they have done as of Friday.

Williams said that though there was interest in a Buckwild revival from other networks, MTV execs Van Toffler and Susanne Daniels won’t let the show loose.

In response … Well, let’s just say it seems pretty clear that Williams won’t be working with MTV ever again.

“MTV is the most hypocritical network out there,” he said. ”Van and Susanne can keep promoting pre-martial sex and promoting leaving the baby after you have it [a reference to Teen Mom]. I’m so glad they have found their moral bar.”

After Gandee died in a mudding accident, MTV halted production on Buckwild immediately, cancelling it a week later.

“After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of ‘Buckwild’ in West Virginia,” they said in an official statement. “We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately.”

Reaction to Buckwild’s cancellation has been decidedly mixed. Some think that cancelling the show is the proper thing to do in light of Gandee’s death, while others believe that he would have wanted them to carry on.

Are you upset that Buckwild is cancelled for good, or do you wish MTV would let the producers bring it back?

‘The Cleveland Show’ Canceled? Fox Not Ordering New Episodes

Fox Isn't Ordering New Cleveland Show Episodes

Fox has decided not to order new episodes of the Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show. However, the network has yet to announce its cancellation.

Since Fox has a habit of pulling shows from its schedule only to bring them back at a later date, it’s possible that the network hasn’t pulled the plug on the animated comedy just yet. Despite rumors about the show’s cancellation, the network has remained tight-lipped about its future.

News about the fate of The Cleveland Show first appeared on The Animation Guild website. Writer Steve Hulett said he recently spent quite a bit of time at Fox Animation Studios on Friday morning. This is where he reportedly learned of the show’s cancellation.

Since Seth MacFarlane currently has his hands busy with a number of different projects, the fate of his animated programs were called into question. However, an insider told Hulett that MacFarlane’s other shows are moving forward for the time being.

“‘American Dad’ isn’t a problem. Seth does two voices on the show but doesn’t run it. But he signs off on the stuff at ‘Family Guy.’ When he’s not there the show can get bottle-necked because he hasn’t okayed stuff,” the anonymous animator explained.

A representative for Fox reached out to The Hollywood Reporter to address the cancellation of The Cleveland Show. The network neither confirmed nor denied the program’s status.

“Only Fox can dictate whether a show has been canceled,” a representative for the network explained to the website.

The fate of the spin-off may hang in the balance, but several other animated comedies are scheduled to return next season. The network has ordered new episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, and Bob’s Burgers.

Are you a fan of Seth MacFarlane’s The Cleveland Show? Are you disappointed that Fox hasn’t said one way or the other about the program’s rumored cancellation?

depression and life changes

Clinical depression, also referred to as major depressive disorder (MDD), is one of the most common mental illnesses, affecting more than 19 million Americans each year.

The condition causes people to lose appreciation for everyday life, and is characterized by episodes of all-encompassing low mood accompanied by low self-esteem and loss of interest or pleasure in activities.

The term depression is ambiguous, used to denote many mood disorders. Depression can be a disabling condition that adversely affects a person’s loved ones, work or school life, sleeping and eating habits, and general health.

Symptoms of depression manifest as persistent sadness and anxiety, excessive sleep or sleeplessness, significant loss or increase of appetite, restlessness, irritability, fatigue, and a preoccupation of suicidal thoughts. Depression is more than just feeling sad. Sufferers often experience feelings of despair.

Anyone is vulnerable to depression as chronic stress, traumatic events, substance abuse, a family history of mental illness and, as studies have shows, even being surrounded by people who are negative can trigger the condition. Treatment typically involves a combination of anti-depressants and psychotherapy.

A new study out of the University of Notre Dame suggests depression and the emotions associated with it may be contagious among those in immediate contact through a cognitive vulnerability.

Cognitive vulnerability refers to an internal and stable feature of a person that predisposes him or her to the development of psycho-pathology under specified conditions such as the occurrence of stressful life events. This cognitive vulnerability can be used to predict who is likely to experience depression in the future.

Doctors Gerald Haeffel and Jennifer Hames, of Indiana’s University of Notre Dame, decided to investigate whether depression might be contagious during major life transitions such as starting college.

Randomly paired roommates, made up of 206 college-age freshman participants (103 pairs), were observed. Within one month of arriving on campus, the roommates completed an online questionnaire that included measures of cognitive vulnerability and depressive symptoms. They completed the same measures again three months and six months later.

The psychological research, published in Clinical Psychological Science, a journal for the Association for Psychological Science, found the gloomy mindset of students vulnerable to depression can make their friends more likely to suffer with the same condition, especially in circumstances of stressful life changes.

Students assigned to roommates with high-levels of depressive vulnerability were likely to take on a similar mindset. The reverse was also true. Those assigned to roommates who were not prone to depression experienced decreases in their own levels negative thinking. Students who developed an increase in depressive thinking in the first three months of college had nearly twice the level of depressive symptoms at six months.

Dr. Haeffel determined the study demonstrated the influence of cognitive vulnerability and its potential to wax and wane over time depending on the social context.

Pickup Artist Admits To Slashing Tires To Meet Women

flat tire pickup artist

Pop quiz: What’s the best way to pick up women? If you answered “slashing their tires and then offering to change out them out,” you are creepy. You also might be Yoshihito Harada.

Harada is accused of puncturing the tires of parked vehicles in an attempt to introduce himself to their female drivers and offer his help. At his first trial on April 16, when asked if there was any truth to the allegations, the 25-year-old plainly admitted “It’s true, I did it.”

According to the opening statement by the case’s prosecutors, Harada used a screwdriver or another sharp object to slash the tires on five different cars between April of 2011 and December 2012. The cars were usually parked outside of supermarkets in the cities of Miyoshi, Nisshin and Toyota, Aichi Prefecture.

In every case, the reason given for doing this was to pick up women.

They’d come out to their cars after shopping, and Harada would walk up saying something like “Looks like you’ve got a flat. Let me fix it for you.” While changing the flat tire, he’d strike up a friendly conversation and attempt to exchange phone numbers.

He got caught because one of his victims told a friend that she had recently met a man after he offered to change her flat tire. Her friend replied that the exact same thing had recently happened to her. Small town, I guess.

In any case, the two women reported the story to the authorities, and an investigation was immediately launched.

Harada seemed to feel pretty bad about the whole thing, with witnesses reporting that he frequently broke down in tears when in court.

His defense lawyer said that Harada had apparently pulled the trick about 1,000 times.

Russia Warned The FBI About Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011

Russian warned the US about Tamerlan-Tsarnaev in 2011

The FBI has admitted that it received a warning about Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bombing suspect, in early 2011 from the Russian government. Tsarnaev died in a police shootout early Friday morning. His younger brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was apprehended by police Friday night.

In a press release posted on the agency’s website on Friday, the FBI said a “foreign government” (which it now admits is Russia) contacted the FBI and asked for information about Tamerlan Tsarnaev because “he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.”

The FBI’s release further disclosed that it interviewed Tsarnaev and his family and checked various government databases but “did not find any terrorism activity, domestic or foreign.”

FBI agents never re-interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev after he came back to the states following his trip to Chechnya and other areas in Russia, however. “But the F.B.I. never followed up on Tamerlan once he returned, a senior law enforcement official acknowledged on Saturday, adding that its investigation did not turn up anything and it did not have the legal authority to keep tabs on him. Investigators are now scrambling to review that trip, and learn about any extremists who might have influenced, trained or directed Tamerlan while he was there.”

US Senator Lindsey Graham (R – S.C.) said today on national television that he believes the FBI or perhaps the law enforcement/homeland security system in general dropped the ball in the Tamerlan Tsarnaev investigation after receiving the tip:

“Once you’re brought to attention by a foreign government, I think you should have a red flag put then, to be taken off later. The ball was dropped in one of two ways — the FBI missed a lot of things, as one potential answer or our laws do not allow the FBI to follow up in a sound solid way. There was a lot to be learned from this guy. He was on websites talking about killing Americans. He went overseas … he was clearly talking about radical ideas. He was visiting radical areas.

Added Graham: “And the fact that we could not track him has to be fixed. It’s people like this that you don’t want to let out of your sight, and this was a mistake. I don’t know if our laws are insufficient or the FBI failed, but we’re at war with radical Islamists and we need to up our game.”

Graham also emphasized that the younger Tsarnaev deserves a fair trial in federal court but should also be designated as an enemy combatant once the public safety exception expires.

Rep. Peter King (R – N.Y.) claimed during a television interview this morning that “This is the latest in a series of cases like this … where the FBI is given information about someone as being a potential terrorist. They look at them, and then they don’t take action, and then they go out and commit murders.”

'LEGO City Undercover The Chase Begins' review roundup

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins was released today for the 3DS. See what the critics had to say.

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins is the 3DS extension on the game that gained favorable reviews all around. It features an officer known as Chase McCain, who explores a city comprised entirely of LEGOs. As you go, the city builds itself around you and humor abounds in true buddy cop fashion.

In the original LEGO City Undercover, your partner Frank Honey helped you chase down Rex Fury in an open world scenario filled with fun. This time around, Frank Honey isn’t there. In fact, not even a month after the original game was released, TT Games decided to make a prequel. It’s almost a rule in storytelling that you build the character with a few stories before you tell us where they come from, so being what it is, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins was just too soon.

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins systematically dismantles almost everything you liked about the Wii U game, making you wonder why you should even bother. The crime world is smaller, the voices are mostly gone save for a cutscene or two, and it makes you very aware that everything has been scaled back.

The interactions between Chase and his love interest Natalia Kowalski and then-deputy Dunby are entertaining enough, but it’s not enough to make up for what feels missing.

For an origin story, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins doesn’t seem to go that far back. His lower rank doesn’t seem to diminish his skills, so there doesn’t seem to be anything to build up from. They could just as easily have demoted Chase and made him climb his way back up.

If you’ve played the original LEGO City Undercover, you don’t have much exploring to do, as the city layout is about the same. Stick with the first game and you’ll get more.

What do you think of LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins?

“Sweet Caroline” has been an unofficial anthem for the Boston Red Sox for the last decade and after the Boston Marathon bombing it also became the song of the city. Neil Diamond showed up at Fenway Park last night, a day after the team had to cancel their game, to sing “Sweet Caroline” with the crowd.

Diamond stepped out onto the field and told the stadium that the entire country was cheering for the Red Sox.

Diamond said: “I bring love from the whole country.”

Fenway Park had to cancel their game earlier this week as police and Boston started searching for the bombing suspect. Now that the manhunt is over and the Red Sox have returned to the field, baseball were able to enjoy their longstanding tradition once again.

Red Sox fan Chris Montgomery told the LA Times: “That was really incredible … The fact that he came out and no one expected it was a major lift. People loved it.”

The Red Sox aren’t the only team to enjoy “Sweet Caroline” this week. Sports fans from around the country have been belting out the song in support of Boston and their sports teams.

Here’s the video of Neil Diamond singing “Sweet Caroline” at Fenway Park.

Arizona Walmart Bomb Scare

San Tan Valley, AZ – A bomb scare at an area Walmart prompted a complete store evacuation.

Authorities explained that a suspicious package was discovered near the entrance of the store on Friday. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call about a five-gallon paint bucket that had been left between two cars in the parking lot.

The bucket, which was described as being “out of place,” prompted store officials to evacuate all of the Walmart customers shopping at the location. Authorities estimate that between 500 and 1,000 individuals were asked to leave the store during the bomb scare.

While the paint bucket itself didn’t look out of the ordinary, Sergeant Stormee Wallace said surveillance footage showed someone purposely leaving the suspicious package between the cars.

“Because of course with the unfortunate events that just occurred in Boston, we wanted to make sure we didn’t have a secondary incident happen here. We wanted to make sure we did everything they could to protect residents of San Tan Valley,” Wallace told Fox 10 News.

Wallace added that some people ran out of the Walmart screaming during the bomb scare. Some customers left behind personal items in order to get out of the store.

The Sheriff’s Department asked the Department of Public Safety to bring in K-9 and bomb units in order to investigate the paint bucket. After the suspicious package was X-rayed and inspected, it was determined that the item in question posed no threat.

Wallace explained that authorities are currently looking for the person who left the paint bucket between the cars. He said that charges could be filed, though he didn’t elaborate further.

Another bomb scare occurred at a Walmart in Bogalusa, Louisiana after someone reported an abandoned suitcase inside a shopping cart on Friday. Authorities later determined that the suspicious package was empty and gave the all clear.

What do you think about the recent bomb scares at two Walmart locations over the weekend?

Televangelist Juanita Bynum arrested

Dallas, TX — Televangelist Juanita Bynum spent the night in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center after being arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in a civil proceeding against her, public records show.

Bynum was booked at the jail around 10:30 pm Thursday and was released after appearing in court to answer questions about the case the next day. Part of the questioning included details about a 2007 judgment in which Bynum was ordered to pay $140,000 to her promoter Al Wash’s company.

Wash’s attorney said Bynum has yet to pay, but he and his client were hopeful that the matter would finally be resolved. Wash sued Bynum for failing to perform in a play for which he had paid her.

Entertainment attorney David Small said, “She has disclosed the whereabouts of her assets and her business dealings.”

The 54-year-old author and gospel singer previously made headlines in 2007 when her then-husband, Thomas Wesley Weeks III, pleaded guilty to assaulting her in a hotel parking lot on August 21, where the two had met to discuss their marriage and try to reconcile. Weeks kicked, choked, and stomped on the No More Sheets author and initially claimed that he acted in self-defense after Bynum attacked him. He later pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault and was sentenced to three years of probation, 200 hours of non-church related community service, and was also ordered to undergo anger and violence counseling.

Weeks was able to avoid jail time after his grandfather pleaded with Bynum. She said she was “overwhelmed” by the plea, and then said, “I don’t believe my husband is a criminal.” The couple, who were married in a million-dollar, televised ceremony in 2002, divorced on June 21, 2008.

The “prophetess” was previously a victim of domestic violence in the early 1980s, but said, “[I] made a vow that I would not talk about that situation because it was over 20 years ago.”

Skyrim Legendary coming

Skyrim: Legendary Edition might not be officially announced, but it appears that Bethesda is putting together a sort of “master” DLC pack that will contain the game along with all DLC that was ever produced for Skyrim.

The game maker announced last week that they were done making DLC for their popular title so it makes quite a bit of sense that they would be packing up all of the downloadable content and the game into one package.

The company announced that it won’t be coming up with new content for this title but it will still be servicing and issuing patches if there are problems. This isn’t the first time the company has basically announced it was done with a title and then packed everything up into a neat little grouping.

Skyrim: Legendary Edition is reported to come with the game as well as the Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn DLC packs. The company has previously released packages like this for Fallout 3.

Bethesda is turning its attention to a new horror survival game called The Evil Within and has decided that there isn’t much else to be said for Skyrim at this point in time. There are also still some rumors that Fallout 4 is still in the works and could be announced sooner rather than later.

There isn’t technically an official release date for this particular package but some sharp eyes have spotted advertisment for this edition to be hitting on June 7. At a Polish Ultima store there was even a suggested pricetag for the grouping.

Skyrim Legendary

The PS3 and Xbox 360 editions were priced at $54 while the PC version was sporting a $44 MSRP. Whether or not the date or price for the release is accurate is something we’ll just have to wait and see about.

There may not be much of an announcement long before this is out, since its not exactly a new game.

Would you be interested in Skyrim: Legendary Edition if all the rumors can be believed?
