Along-with the newly announced MacBook, Apple earlier today announced the launch date for its much awaited Apple Watch. At a launch event held at San Francisco, Apple announced that the Apple Watch would go on sale starting April 24, 2015 in select countries across the globe. At the launch event, Apple CEO termed the Apple Watch line-up the company’s most personal device ever. The company went ahead and called the devices “the most advanced timepiece ever created.”
To cater to a wide variety of customers, the Apple Watch line-up will come in three separate editions – the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport, and the Apple Watch Edition – the last one being targeted at premium consumers.
To make things simpler, and to help you identify the various Apple Watch variants, here is a simple ready reckoner. The basic, Apple Watch comes in Stainless steel cases in two finishes — traditional and space black. The Apple Watch Sport is the flashiest of the lot and features an anodized aluminum case that will come in silver or space gray. They will however have the option of adding flashy colored sport bands. As for the Apple Watch Edition, it will come in an 18-Karat Gold cases in different colors. There are a host of bands as well – however not as numerous as the options that the Apple Watch Sport edition gets. All the Apple Watch versions will come in 42mm and 32mm variants for different wrist sizes.
While the features of the Apple Watch have been talked about in the past as well, just in case you have been a little out of touch, here’s what the newest Apple can do – once again.
To start with, the Apple Watch is first and foremost, a watch. You can look at the screen and it tells you what time it is. It comes with a host of customizable faces that you can change to suit your personality. The Face can also display reminders, weather information and pretty much everything you can program it to display. For Knight Rider lovers, you can now answer calls on the Apple Watch and talk to your watch (and pretend you’re talking to KITT). The Apple Watch also packs in a built-in activity tracker that encourages you to stay fit. For Siri lovers, you can now add one more device to the list of iDevices that you can talk to.
All the Apple Watch editions support Apple Pay and you can use the gadget to buy lunch at places like Whole Foods. When you are near the Airport, and the details of your trip is stored on Passbook, your boarding pass will be automatically displayed on your Apple Watch screen. To control Apple Watch from your phone, an all-new Apple Watch App is now available on the App Store.
Apple claims that all editions of Apple Watch will last an entire day of normal usage.
If you are interested in being among the first people to be getting an Apple Watch, you can choose to pre-order one starting April 10. Starting Apil 24, the Apple Watch models would go on sale in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States.
As for the pricing, this is where it all gets interesting! According to The Verge, the starting price of an entry-levelApple Watch is $349. This happens to be a 38 mm version of the Apple Watch Sport. The 42mm version will start at $399. As for the stainless steel Apple Watch, the 38 mm model in that line up starts at $1049.
If you are someone who doesn’t mind paying a little more cash to gain that exclusivity, you can also spend a staggering $10,000 for the top-of-the-line, Apple Watch Edition models. The aforementioned price tag by the way, is the starting price for Apple Watch Edition models!
