Jayden Sink is taking on the Westboro Baptist Church hate group — and the courageous 5-year-old set up right across the street to do it. On Friday afternoon, the little girl set up a stand selling pink lemonade outside The Equality House in Topeka, Kansas. The money is part of her fundraiser for the Planting Peace Project.

The rainbow-colored Equality House was painted in March in the colors of the gay pride flag, which must be particularly galling to their neighbors across the street. The Westboro Baptist Church has risen to notoriety for its message of hate, especially against the LGBT community.

They are infamous for demonstrating at high-profile funerals with signs that frequently include anti-gay slurs.

Five-year old Jayden decided to oppose the Westboro Baptist Church message of hate with an expression of peace.

Aaron Jackson, one of the founders of Planting Peace and the buyer of The Equality House, talked about Jayden’s effort in an email to the Huffington Post:

“As we all know, the Westboro Baptist Church puts a lot of hate into the world. Since we cannot stop them, the next best thing is to smother it with love. That is what 5-year-old Jayden accomplished [Friday].”

The crowd turned out. Jayden raised $400 selling the pink lemonade for $1 a cup — and she is currently raising even more online.

A rumor is flying that Westboro Baptist Church called the police Friday. If they did, the long arm of the law didn’t show up to arrest a 5-year-old peace-seeker for the high crime of selling lemonade.

A robot body-double developed by a renowned a Japanese scientist made its debut in the United States over the weekend.

Roboticist Hiroshi Ishiguro is the director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University in Japan. He has worked for years developing robots that mimic human behavior. Ishiguro revealed his own doppleganger on Saturday.

The android strongly resembles its creator, right down to the blinking eyes and subtle movements. The Hindu states Ishiguro introduced his robot body-double to the world at the Global Futures 2045 International Congress in New York City.

The roboticist’s android was controlled remotely by someone off-stage. Ishiguro told those in attendance he could easily send his lookalike to events and engagements in his place. If he wasn’t feeling up to delivering a speech, then the android could theoretically serve as his stand-in.

At the end of his presentation, the android version of Ishiguro joked that it would give a much better presentation than its human counterpart the next time around.

Hiroshi Ishiguro’s robot body-double isn’t the only so-called “Geminoid” the scientist has created. He also crafted a female android used to sell clothing at a store in Japan. The lifelike mannequin proved to be quite popular; the outfit she was wearing quickly sold out shortly after going on display.

Ishiguro is also responsible for creating the “Telenoid.” This robot is designed to appear nondescript and ageless so the users can project any image he or she wants on the android’s face. According to Live Science, the robot has tested very well with the elderly in Denmark.

The Japanese scientist is also taking his robots on the road. Ishiguro is known for his traveling “android theater,” where his creations act out scenes while showing how realistic their human expressions tend to be. The roboticist is also busy with “Elfoid,” a miniature version of the “Telenoid” that serves as a mobile phone.

The team at Google X Labs has unveiled “Project Loon,” a new platform that aims to use high-altitude balloons to create a 3G-speed internet connection for remote parts of the world.

The Project Loon network relies on the high-altitude balloons to create a connected network in rural areas where the cost of building an internet connection outweighs the advantages of such a network.

If Google X Labs is successful in creating the network it would require balloons to fly twice the altitude of commercial aircraft. The balloons would then allow homes and businesses to pick up their signals and connect to the internet regardless of location.

The Project Loon balloons would travel around the world using solar power and stratospheric winds.

Google engineers are currently attempting to build out the algorithms that would be needed to tell the balloons how high to fly in order to drift in the right direction. Keeping the high-altitude internet balloons on the right path at all times would be needed to keep the network fully connected to ground based internet stations.

Google X Labs is known for shooting for the stars which means this platform may never see the light of day. At this time the Project Loon setup is still in “early testing” although Google claims that technology already available could have allowed Project Loon to already go live.

Back in 2008 a report suggested that Google was already working with a balloon wireless firm to create a wide-area network.

50 people are beginning to test the Project Loon setup in New Zealand. The test program is using 30 Project Loon balloons that will all go live over the next week.

Folk singer Jenny Owen Youngs revealed she is gay and engaged to marry her partner later this summer.

The singer-songwriter made the announcement via an open letter published on the website Everyoneisgay.com. The singer explained she was forced to keep her sexuality a secret due to her conservative upbringing.

According to Wonderwall, Jenny Owen Youngs said she hopes spreading the word about being “super gay” will help inspire others who are struggling with their own sexuality.

“In a perfect world, nobody would have to experience any of the negative side-effects of figuring out that you’re gay, which can include feeling confused, shameful, afraid, lost, or alone. In a perfect world, everyone could just like who they like, and get on with it,” the musician said in the letter.

In addition to coming out of the closet, Jenny Owen Youngs revealed she is currently engaged to marry the website’s co-creator Kristin Russo. The pair hope to tie the proverbial knot in the coming months.

“Having a firsthand view of the work that she and Dannielle do has been inspiring, and has also made me think more critically about my decision,” Youngs explained.

The singer-songwriter said it can be “damaging and isolating” for young gay people who don’t have anyone to look up to while struggling with their sexuality. Youngs said she wanted to let these folks know that they are not a mistake, and they are certainly not alone.

“I am thankful that in recent years, it has become a bit more common for people from all walks of life to step forward and identify themselves as human beings who also happen to be gay. I am proud to offer my voice to that expanding chorus,” the folk singer explained.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi Irwin was falsely reported as dead on the internet.

The rumor of Bindi Irwin’s death began when search engines incorrectly combined “Steve Irwin daughter” with news related to the 2006 death of Steve Irwin. When search results such as “Steve Irwin daughter dies” began trending writers took notice and immediately began publishing.

The Bindi Irwin death hoax was quickly refuted, but people are probably wondering what Bindi Irwin is actually up to.

Lately, Bindi Irwin has been busy promoting her new film Return to Nim’s Island. Bindi Irwin’s Discovery Kids programs will include Bindi’s Bootcamp and Steve Irwin’s Wildlife Warriors, which just released on DVD last week. Bindi’s Bootcamp is an adventure game show. Bindi Irwin says, “I’m a great believer in conservation, kid-empowerment and all things to do with wildlife.”

Bindi Irwin’s younger brother Robert is also continuing Steve Irwin’s legacy. He’s been working on a dinosaur hunter book series, which is pretty amazing for a 10-year-old.

The Bindi Irwin Discovery Kids programs will promote green living in kids, including “really simple [things like] just planting a tree, or even turning off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth.” Both Robert and Bindi Irwin believe it’s really important “to start saying to kids, you know, you can change the world and it is possible.”

Did Michael Jackson’s ghost have his chance to speak Friday in a Los Angeles Superior Court presided over by Judge Yvette Palazuelos? Maybe. Kinda.

Friday was the eighth and final day of testimony by AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips in the wrongful death civil suit filed against his company by the King of Pop’s mother Katherine Jackson. Her attorneys contend that AEG Live was negligent when it hired Dr. Conrad Murray, the cardiologist found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson’s sudden death at age 50.

Phillips’ testimony has been rambling, inconsistent, and at times incoherent. Katherine Jackson’s lead attorney Brian Panish was openly disgusted with the defendant:

“[T]he CEO of AEG Live is not credible or worthy of any belief, he told numerous stories…The truth fears no trial and Mr. Phillips had a hard time with the truth. He testified under oath five months ago that he didn’t recall anything, yet after meeting 60 hours with his lawyers, he had a miraculous recovery of his memory.”

And some of those memories are downright bizarre, according to a couple of tabloids who are picking through the mess for giggles.

The New York Daily News reported that Randy Phillips gave testimony about a seance performed by Lionel Richie’s ex-wife Brenda to find out the truth of what really happened directly from Michael Jackson’s ghost:

“Brenda called me to tell me that she was in communications with Michael, either through a medium or directly…She said Michael told her it wasn’t Dr. Murray’s fault — that he had accidentally killed himself.”

The Sun noted that Yvette Palazuelos let the testimony stand instead of striking it for the record, even though observers in the courtroom burst into laughter. Sun reporter Pete Samson wrote:

“A Jackson family lawyer objected, calling it triple hearsay as Phillips was relaying a conversation with Brenda, who had spoken to a medium who allegedly contacted the late singer.”

Hmm. Maybe the judge let it stand because it gave evidence of the working (or not working) thought processes of the head honchos at CEO Live?

Despite the tabloid outrage, I somehow doubt Palazuelos left Phillips’ rambling statements on the record because she puts any validity into the existence of Michael Jackson’s ghost.

A female tourist has come forward claiming that she was kept as a tourist sex slave for seven weeks in a Melbourne hotel room at Rydges Bell City Hotel Complex on Bell Street, according to the latest Australian police report.

In the exclusive report that was given to the Herald Sun, the 21-year-old woman only managed to escape her gruelling ordeal after she stabbed her abuser, 44-year-old Alfio Anthony Granata, on Christmas Day last year.

This report further reinforces just how common sex slavery is, after an earlier UK police report of a similar rape incident from this year was released, which detailed how a teenage girl was raped 90 times in one weekend.

Sadly though, that isn’t the only rape story that has recently become public knowledge; in May this year a shocking case was revealed that involved a couple that kept their own niece as a sex slave for over 20 years.

In a similar fashion, this case sees a duo at the heart of the accusations, with Garnata’s partner, 32-year old Jennifer Mary Peaston, also accused for this tourist sex slave encounter.

Granata, who is a father of three divorcee, has a total of 100 offences against his name, which includes rape, assault with a knife, abduction and theft; the relentless attack the victim suffered left her with severe bruises on her body and face, not to mention the need for her to be hospitalized after her escape.

Despite the long list of charges against him, Granata claims that the victim was a willing participant in the sexual acts that occurred in the seven week period; from the set up of HD video cameras, to the use of dog collars, which Granata refers to as ‘chains’, the whole thing was completely aboveboard, if his story is to be believed.

The whole event happened after the young tourist meet the pair at a birthday party in St Kilda, and then apparently proceeded to return back to the hotel room which the pair, which then led to the ‘trio’ opting for a $335-a-week room, paid for out of Granata’s $900 disability money and Peaston’s carer allowance.

Granata and Peaston still remain in custody as the tourist sex slave case continues on.

An Alaska man was arrested for driving a motorized shopping cart while drunk and stealing cookies and cake mix.

A grocery store worker contacted the police after seeing Merrill K. Moses drive his shopping cart into parking lot traffic. The employee was worried Moses would run into a car.

Another employee told the police that this isn’t the first time Moses drove a motorized shopping cart drunk. The employee said that the 63-year-old has even attempted to run over employees who tried to stop him.

“When an officer arrived, a store employee was holding onto the handlebars of the cart to keep the suspect from driving any further,” Sgt. Bruce Barnette at the Fairbanks Police Department said.

According to Barnette, Moses wasn’t able to stand up by himself at the grocery store. His breath alcohol content was measured at 0.31, which is almost four times the legal limit.

In addition to drunk driving, Moses was charged with shoplifting because his cart contained items he didn’t pay for. Moses has been in trouble with the law before and has convictions for drinking in public, theft, criminal trespass, and domestic assault.

Moses isn’t the only person who has been accused of driving a motorized shopping cart while under the influence. In February, a Florida man was arrested for driving a motorized shopping cart in Walmart while drunk.

Timothy Carr was spotted driving the shopping cart and knocking down items off the shelves. The 48-year-old apparently even took alcohol beverages off the shelf and started drinking them.

When the police came, Carr told them that he was homeless and didn’t have the money to pay for the alcohol. He was charged with disorderly intoxication and shoplifting.

Dior’s confirmation of Robert Pattinson as the new face of Dior Homme fragrance touched off a general rejoicing this past week.This is only set to increase once the campaign actually lands, so what can we expect?

Following Parfum Christian Dior’s announcement that photographs for the print campaign were shot by edgy artist Nan Goldin and the television commercial has been filmed by French director Romain Garvas, more details have surfaced.

The print campaign will roll out from September 1 in multiple men and women’s titles as well as daily newspapers. The television commercial, which was shot mainly in New York, will also be unveiled in the same month and will run in 60-second and 80-second lengths.

As Dior previously revealed, the campaign will broadcast exclusively in Europe (except UK) and Asia (except China and Japan). It’s likely it will extend to the UK and America at some point, surely?

The campaign is called “1000 Lives” and the television commercial will feature English prog-rockers Led Zeppelin’s 1969 hit “Whole Lotta Love,” a neat dovetail with Pattinson’s Brit cool and a decent tune to boot.

E! News reveals the shoot, which took place in December in the ballroom of the New York City’s Waldorf Astoria, has a high art but sexy theme.

“It was a ceremony with a lot of guests dressed very fancy. There was a 6-piece formal band with violins,” a source told E!

The commercial features Rob and a woman (played by a model) who essentially crash a (society?) wedding.

“They ran through the crowd and stopped on the dance floor. Rob danced with an older lady and the girl would dance with the kids,” the source continues.

“During the scene, they were holding hands and danced a little before splitting up so Rob could dance with the older lady. The scene was that others were not amused by this—like those two were crashing a ceremony.”

Post The Twilight Saga, David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis — which saw the 27-year-old actor garner impressive critical reviews — and having just completed filming in Australia on David Michod’s The Rover; an insight into where Pattinson is at now comes courtesy of Yves Bongarcon.

Bongarcon sat down with Pattinson for France’s SportsStyle magazine during the press junket that followed Dior’s press announcement in Los Angeles. Teasing a tiny reveal of the interview to come, Bongarcon said the actor quoted the late James Dean, saying:

“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today,” which could be taken as either half full or half empty in light of ever-present speculation.

It’s also a peek into the mind-set of a young man who took Hollywood by storm in 2008 with the release of the first Twilight installment, became a global superstar and tabloid fixture, then turned all of that crazy on its head by stealing the show in Cronenberg’s surreal adapt of Don DeLillo’s same name novel.

Pattinson’s upcoming film slate also includes crime caper Hold On To Me with Carey Mulligan, Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert, although that appears to be in flux. The actor is also expected to begin filming Mission: Blacklist at some point.

For a kid that used to be called “fat Cavill” in school, Henry Cavill has surely had a complete physical transformation. From the time in England, when he was teased because of his looks to wearing the Superman suit, it hasn’t always been easy.

In an article published by Men’s Health Magazine in November of 2011, he says, “It’s definitely a sh##ty nickname. But kids are kids. Kids are cruel. Whatever. I was fat.”

Henry seems to have moved on from those days. Now the ultimate icon in the movies he is certainly impressive to look at. Not many can look as fit as he does in Man of Steel. From what we saw, it seems the body is all his, no padding added.

When he was young, at boarding school, he played rugby, field hockey, and cricket, but that wasn’t enough to keep him slim, he was “round”, by his own admission. But Henry Cavill grew out of that chubby stage to become and underwear model and actor, landing the role of Charles Brandon in the successful Showtime miniseries The Tudors in which he had several steamy nude scenes.

Even then, he thought of himself as heavy set and it wasn’t until he was cast in the Greek mythology action film Immortals, in which he plays the human warrior Theseus, that he began to truly work on getting his body in shape.

But whereas for Immortals he had to slim down and get eight packs (not six packs), for Man of Steel he had to bulk up and he did so under the tutelage of Mark Twight, owner of Gym Jones in Salt Lake City, who is the same trainer that transformed the cast of 300.

Twight used a brutal routine called Tailpipe, which is a 100 repetition workout that will, “smoke calories, torch fat, and leave you exhausted. The recovery is just as important.”

Twight explains that with the recovery method, “the moment you finish an exercise, calmly take eight controlled breaths in an out of your nose. Fight the urge to gasp or pause, then immediately start the next exercise.”

This is how Henry Cavill got in shape for Superman, and it is paying off. Not many have looked as chiseled as the Brit does playing the role. Did you see Man of Steel yet?

Egyptair flight 985 bound for New York made an emergency landing in Scotland Saturday after a ‘terror note’ was found in the bathroom of the plane by BBC producer, Nada Tawfik.

According to reports, Tawfik was using the restroom when she discovered a napkin that had the message “I’ll set this plane on fire” written on it, alongside this was a series of numbers that looked like they could be referring to one of the seats on board the plane; realizing the implications if the note was genuine, Tawfik informed the cabin crew, who then alerted the authorities.

In reaction to the news, the 985 flight was escorted to an airport in Scotland, Glasgow’s Prestwick, by RAF Typhoon fighter planes for the matter to be fully investigated; however, the extensive search of the aircraft has turned up no more threatening evidence and so the plane has been allowed to continue its journey to New York.

At least the matter wasn’t as questionable as the case where overzealous cabin crews diverted the plane just to kick off some of its passengers, because that would have really been an embarrassing scene for the BBC producer to be involved in.

A spokesman for the terror note episode had this to say about the situation:

“Officers from Police Scotland have carried out an extensive search of the aircraft resulting in no suspicious items being found, [...] Passengers and crew are now aboard and the aircraft is continuing its flight to New York.”

He then continued by saying that, although nothing was found, besides the note itself, the police are still looking into the circumstances, though as of yet no arrests have been made.

It would seem that, whether a genuine threat or not, none of the passengers have been linked to any terrorists organizations, unlike the two passengers linked to Islamic terrorist groups when a plane crashed in 2009.

Despite the worry surrounding the terror note find, not to mention the overnight stay for the plane and its passengers, the airport still remained open and continued about its daily activities.

Leyla Ghobadi’s story about cheating with Kanye West seems to be a work in process. The twentysomething Canadian model first told the story in an exclusive for Star Magazine, for which she is rumored to have received $20,000.

According to that version of the story, Leyla Ghobadi was handpicked out of a Kanye West concert crowd on July 6, 2012. She claimed that she only hooked up with him — twice — after he insisted that his relationship with Kim Kardashian was a publicity stunt.

Of course, at the moment, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are enjoying a burst of public sympathy because of the early arrival of their new baby girl on Saturday.

Kanye West denied Ghobadi’s claim, calling it an attack on his family.

According to Global Grind, Leyla Ghobadi’s next move was to take her campaign to Twitter. They’ve posted alleged screenshots of the now-removed Leyla Ghobadi account that have comments like:

“Maybe I went about this the wrong way but how else am i meant to get thru to her? I am NOT the bad guy in this situation. nothing more 2 say.”

And:

“The woman will always get the blame for everything huh.”

Folks, I can’t verify that Ghobadi left these tweets. But there’s no question that Leyla Ghobadi is feeling somewhat defensive these days.

And her story seems to be changing. According to a report in The Sun, Ghobadi told their reporter that she first hooked up with Kanye West at a 2011 concert in Montreal, Canada:

“He then flew some friends and I out to Toronto for his two concerts in the next two days. We had sex again there. This was all before Kim Kardashian and he never spoke about her. But what I do know is that Kanye is a Romeo — he can never be trusted.”

Hmm. She’s a pretty girl but maybe it’s time for her to just stop talking.

The update arrives when users add iOS 6.1 or higher to their devices. AMBER alerts and Emergency alerts can be helpful for AT&T users and anyone wanting to help find missing children. However, those options are optional and therefore are opt-out ready.

If you don’t want to receive AMBER alerts and Emergency alerts on your iPhone you can simple navigate to the devices notification settings and turn them off.

President Obama’s presidential alerts will arrive regardless of a users desire.

While WEA messages are always delivered free of charge to all AT&T Wireless customers, the move will likely anger Republicans and Independents who don’t support President Obama. The move may even anger Obama supports who feel their government in recent weeks has overstepped its bounds with the NSA PRISM program.

While the presidential messages are enabled users shouldn’t expect to see daily messages from the POTUS. Instead messages will be delivered when issues of national importance are on the docket.

Attacks against America, major natural disasters, impeding disaster, all of those issues may trigger an important Presidential alert. While we might not always want to hear from the President, most of us probably want to know if we need to get out of dodge.

A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly selling heroin with his infant daughter cradled in his arms. This isn’t the story of sort that should be making the rounds on Father’s Day.

Authorities said 23-year-old Tyreek Langs was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and the criminal sale of a controlled substance.

According to ABC Local, the incident took place in Central Islip on Thursday afternoon. Police said the man was spotted selling heroin with his eight-month-old baby in his arms during surveillance by officers.

Suffolk County police Lieutenant James Rooney said Langs appeared to be going about his business as usual when they allegedly spied him selling heroin. Police believe this isn’t the first time he brought his baby along for a drug deal.

“The child was content, the child is being held by the father and he’s approaching the buyer to complete the narcotics transaction with the child in his arms,” Rooney explained.

After they spotted Langs selling drugs, officers said they moved in for the arrest. According to CBS Local, the man had a quantity of heroin in his possession at the time. He was expected to appear in court last Friday.

Thankfully, the eight-month-old baby wasn’t harmed during the alleged drug deal or the arrest. Police said the child is now in the custody of his grandmother. UPI reports child protective services were reportedly notified about the incident. Needless to say, there probably won’t be a lot of people wishing him a Happy Father’s Day.

This isn’t the first time a father brought his baby along for a drug transaction. According to WKRN, 45-year-old Stephen Richey was arrested for allegedly selling cocaine near an elementary school with his baby in the backseat of the car. Police later found an assortment of firearms at the suspect’s house.

American high schooler, Jessica Lee, has received a lot of attention after she decided to write a yearbook code as part of the caption for her photograph; but what does it say?

Well, unless you’ve already worked it out for yourself, or read the Reddit post, the code lists a series of periodic elements which appear to be meaningless, however, if you take the symbol of each element and write them out on their own, you get this:

“(F) flourine (U) uranium (C) carbon (K) potassium (Bi) bismuth (Tc) technetium (He) helium (S) sulfur (Ge) germanium (Tm) thulium (O) oxygen (Ne) neon (Y) yttrium”

Once you remove all the unnecessary words, you realize that Jessica Lee has actually written a rather naughty yearbook message:

“F**k B****** Get Money”

Regardless of whether you think this yearbook code is a bad move or not, you have to hand it to the high schooler that she knows possibly the most geekiest way to incorporate Biggie Smalls song lyrics into her yearbook; how many students can say they’ve done something like that?

Nevertheless, the fact that Lee was able to write this yearbook code in the first place, begs the question who is proof reading these books?

This isn’t the first time students have hit the news regarding yearbook captions; it was only a couple of weeks ago that a New York high school had to apologise for the distasteful messages that had been printed under the students photographs, such as ‘creepy kid’ and other negative social labels.

Yet, in total contrast to these two caption cases, a teenage mom was dramatically banned from being pictured in her yearbook after her photograph showed her holding her child; why that isn’t acceptable yet abusive or vulgar comments are, we’ll never really know, however, the strange issues surrounding yearbooks are evidently there.

The only redeeming feature about Jessica Lee’s choice in memorable words, is that her yearbook code will be remembered for something other than hurtful comments about other students; though whether that makes her parents feel better remains to be seen.

A private jet carrying former President George W. Bush was diverted to Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday night and forced to make an emergency landing.

The planes pilot made the decision to land after they reported the smell of smoke.

George W. Bush was aboard the Gulfstream IV aircraft as it made its way from Philadelphia International to Dallas Love Field airport.

The smell of smoke started in the cockpit according to Holly Baker, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane (not pictured) landed safely in Louisville, Kentucky and the former President made his way safely home to Dallas, Texas.

It’s still not clear at this time what caused the smell of smoke aboard George W. Bush’s private jet. We also don’t know yet if the same Gulfstream IV aircraft was used to return Bush back to his home state.

Christie Brinkley continued her charity work this weekend at the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton. The famous model was on hand at the 24th annual summer fund raising party, SoFo Rocks, which raises money to preserve the natural environment of Long Island’s South Fork.

Brinkley, a mermaid honoree, was honored at SoFo rocks for her “continued support of environmental philanthropy.” The Daily Mail notes that Brinkley also attended an annual meeting on radiation and public health and a stroll through the model’s Twitter feed shows that Brinkley is constantly promoting charitable causes.

On June 13 she wrote: “Thank you Ginger for this great article that highlights the important work of Pet Philanthropy.”

Brinkley said that she likes to attend charitable events because it brings attention to a good cause. Some media outlets may focus more on what she’s wearing but the model said that any exposure is good exposure.

Brinkley said: “I know when I go someplace that they’re going to want to find out about what I’m wearing instead of what I’m saying. But to be able to get something about a nuclear power plant on Extra or Access Hollywood is incredible.”

Of course, attending these events also allows Brinkley to do things that she normally doesn’t get to do: Like play DJ.

Man of Steel topped the weekend box office, breaking a June record in the process.

Director Zack Snyder’s reboot of the legendary comic book character earned an estimated $113 million over the weekend. When combined with Thursday evening’s totals, the Superman flick brought home around $125 million. The movie now has the best June opening in history, breaking the previous $110 million record set by Disney’s Toy Story 3.

Hollywood analysts originally believed Man of Steel would land somewhere around the $90 million mark. More generous estimates put the flick’s total about $100 million. Warner Bros. decided to keep expectations a little lower; the studio predicted Snyder’s reboot would make approximately $80 million on opening weekend.

Man of Steel got the ball rolling early with $44 million in ticket sales on Friday. Saturday’s numbers weren’t too bad, either; audiences spent an estimated $36.3 million to see what all the fuss was about. While Sunday’s figures aren’t nearly as strong, the film is expected to generate around $32.7 million in receipts.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. said Superman’s latest cinematic adventure is proving popular in foreign markets as well. The studio predicts Man of Steel will bring in around $17.6 million overseas. The movie opened in 9,710 theaters in a total of 24 different markets.

Snyder’s movie managed to make this tidy sum of money despite receiving quite a few negative reviews. Although its Rotten Tomatoes score stands at 56 percent, moviegoers seemed to enjoy the flick. The audience score is currently a healthy 82 percent.

Warner Bros. isn’t the only studio with a certified hit on their hands. The raunchy R-rated comedy This is the End made an estimated $20.5 million at the box office this weekend. Since opening on Wednesday, the film has earned around $32.8 million. On a budget of $32 million, that’s not too bad at all.

Last week’s number one movie, the low-budget horror flick The Purge, dropped off considerably following its strong debut. The film earned around $8 million this weekend, which is still more than what Universal spent to make the flick. Not surprisingly, the studio is already moving forward with a sequel.

Jodie Foster is selling her long-time home after living in the residence since 1997. The Oscar-winning actress has listed the 6,000 square foot house for $6,399,000. The home shares a co-listing with real estate agent David Kramer.

Foster’s 6,000 square-foot home sits on a quarter-acre lot located on Flicker Way, one of Hollywood Hills‘ most famous streets.

The homes buyer will share the street with various celebrities of past and present including billionaire heiress Megan Ellison, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston and Christina Aguilera, among others.

The Hollywood Reporter says the neighborhood features a “tight-knit” community that meets a few times each year via its Doheny Dining Club.

So what does the buyer get for $6.4 million? The home according to the Wall Street Journal features 6,000 square-feet in a Spanish villa style. The home offers four bedrooms, six bathrooms, an office and an attached guest suite. The home was built in 1935 and underwent some upgrades.

The home also features a screening/family room, a sun-filled atrium, and a center-island kitchen that offers a Viking stove.

Before Jodie Foster owned the home it was the residence of supermodel Cheryl Tiegs.

Jodie Foster is one of Hollywood’s most private actresses which explains why they property is listed as  ”the perfect refuge for those seeking the ultimate in privacy, security and style.” The home is even called “sheltered” in two different parts of the listening.

The home features a two-car garage which is even accessible from a rear-entrance way, thus ensuring further privacy for the homes future buyer.

The listing was placed just ahead of Jodie Fosters new movie Elysium hits theaters on August 9. Foster stars in the movie with Matt Damon. The film is directed by District 9 mastermind Neill Blomkamp.
