jaden smith

Jaden Smith wore an Iron Man costume this week on a date with his new girlfriend Kylie Jenner.

Yep, the star of After Earth decided that his best wardrobe option for his date was a spandex suit and a mask. Jenner, on the other hand, decided to skip the superhero costume in favor of a leopard print dress and black boots.

According to Us Magazine, Smith, 14, and Jenner, 15, spent the afternoon in New York with two other friends. The date started with some shopping in Times Square and ended with a dinner at the Japanese restaurant Nobu 57.

Jaden and Kylie have been friends for a long time but they’ve recently struck up a romantic relationship. The reality star attended the premiere of Jaden’s new movie After Earth last night and they traveled to London together last month.

Smith downplayed the relationship, however, saying that Kylie was just one of his best friends.

Smith said: “I was in L.A., we were all hanging out. Then I went to New York and she came too, then she came here [to London] and surprised me, so that’s pretty baller. She’s one of my best friends. It’s pretty awesome.”

A source, however, told US Weekly recently that they have definitely started dating.

The source said: “They’re dating. It’s new, but they’ve been friends forever.”

It’s unclear if they will continue dating now that Jaden Smith has worn his Iron Man costume out in public.

Accused Heroin Judge Quits

The accused heroin judge quit yesterday, following federal charges of possession and violating gun laws. Judge Michael Cook, of St. Clair County, Illinois, has stepped down amid charges that stemmed from the death of his friend and colleague during a hunting trip.

Judge Joe Christ died of complications from cocaine intoxication. Both judges were on a trip together at Cross’ hunting lodge when Christ died.

The cause of Christ’s death was announced late last week, revealing that he died of a cocaine overdose. Within hours after the announcement, Federal prosecutors issued a criminal complaint accusing Cook. He has been federally charged with heroin possession and handling a firearm while intoxicated.

As reported by Business Insider, less than a week after being charged with possession of heroin, the judge quit. Cook resigned through written correspondence provided by his attorney.

Cook plead not guilty to the criminal charges and has been released on bond. St. Clair County Chief Judge, John Baricevic, has stated that Cook is currently in a rehabilitation facility.

Two other men were arrested in the scandal that has rocked the county. James K. Fogarty is charged with supplying Judges Cook and Christ with cocaine. Fogarty worked for the county as a probation officer.

As reported by Fox2 News, Sean McGilvery was also charged with several heroin and cocaine charges stemming from the investigation into Christ’s death. Unlike the other three men, he was not employed with St. Clair County.

The allegations have shaken the foundation of St. Clair County. Both judges were given the power to sentence criminals for the very behavior that they reportedly took part in. As a probation officer, Fogarty was tasked with supervising criminals. His job included monitoring defendants for drug use and possession. He is now charged with selling drugs.

The criminal charges may seem ironic, especially for those previously appearing before either judge. Unfortunately, it is a great tragedy for those who looked up to both men, personally and professionally.

Cook faces some very serious charges tied to his use of heroin. The judge quit, as he reportedly takes the time to rehabilitate and work on his defense.

Corey Feldman Gets His Stolen $100,000 Jacket Back

Corey Feldman lost a jacket worth $100,000 while at the House of Blues in 2011, and now a Boston man found it on sale at a local flea market.

Feldman said the jacket he wore in the 1989 movie Dream a Little Dream was worth $100,000, but it was stolen during a trip to the Los Angeles restaurant and concert hall.

After shooting wrapped on the 1989 teen film, Feldman reportedly hung onto the jacket and treasured it — until it turned up missing, that is.

Luckily for Corey Feldman, the jacket turned up at a flea market in Boston. Luckily the man who bought it recognized the jacked and knew that it had belonged to the actor, so he got in touch with Corey to have it returned to its rightful owner.

The man who returned the jacket to Corey Feldman got a pretty nice reward. Feldman paid for a luxury weekend in Los Angeles, including a flight, hotel stay, and appearance on stage with Feldman’s rock band. Corey is also donating some of the profit from his band’s concert to One Fund Boston, a fund created by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to benefit victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing.

Aside from the accommodations, Feldman also set the guy up with a 6-foot tall female bodyguard to “protect” him during the visit.

It’s probably just coincidence, but Corey Feldman actually got into some trouble with another tall woman last year. Last year a 6-foot tall, 300-pound woman was arrested at his request after she violated a restraining order.

The alleged stalker, Jennifer Hebert, was once a friend and roommate of Feldman but things soured and he took out an order of protection — only because they were roommates a judge required she stay at least six feet away.

It isn’t clear what Corey Feldman will do with the jacket, which TMZ described as “tacky.”

SheZow Transgender Cartoon Debuts On The Hub

SheZow, a transgender cartoon (probably the first of its kind), has been slated for a June 1 debut on the kids’ channel The Hub after launching to some acclaim in Canada and Australia.

The series focuses on 12-year-old Guy, an “extreme dude,” who inherits the power ring of his deceased aunt, who was at one time the amazing superhero SheZow. “The ring gives him villain-battling super powers, but was meant to be worn by a girl and the result is absolutely she-larious,” according to the synopsis on the channel’s website.

To turn in to SheZow, Guy must put on the ring and say the magic words — “You go, girl!”

The Hub, a joint venture between Discovery and Hasbro — needs a hit with just two shows making a blip on the kids TV programming radar — Transformers and My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic — and this could be the right time for it with tides shifting on marriage equality.

Then again, the transgender issue has seemed to cause more division than gay marriage. In February, a transgender six-year-old was barred from her school’s restrooms, and just this month, a transgender student in New Mexico was told that if he wanted to attend the prom, he would do so in a gown or be forced out of “walking” at graduation.

(Yep, we foresee pushback on this idea.)

Margaret Loesch, chief executive for The Hub, told The Los Angeles Times, “When I first heard about the show, my reaction was ‘Are you out of your minds?’ Then I looked at it and I thought, ‘This is just funny.’”

Conservatives aren’t laughing. Ben Shapiro at Breitbart said Loesch “may or may not have been high (and leftist) when she greenlit this project.”

Shapiro wasn’t too enthusiastic about the show’s future from a ratings perspective either, calling the SheZow transgender cartoon The Hub’s “latest soon-to-be-dud.”

Commenters took over from there: “Why is the left determined to pollute the minds of our children?” said Bruiser in Houston. “Because that’s how they get more members, resources, votes, political power, money, and additional people to be perverted with,” answered Troy To You.

And this, from Liberty_Jane: “Liberals abort their children so they have to try to indoctrinate ours.” Here’s the show’s intro:

What are your thoughts on the SheZow transgender cartoon — age-appropriate material or programming overreach?

Sarah Palin Says No To Google Glass

Sarah Palin says no to Google glass.

The former governor of Alaska and onetime Republic presidential running mate ran into journalist Nilay Patel, one of the early adopters of Google’s computerized glasses. Patel was in a hotel before the Indianapolis 500 when Palin walked in.

Patel asked Sarah Palin if she wanted to take a picture with his Google Glass, but she said no.

Patel recalls:

“The thing about Glass is that it’s a gigantic LOOK AT ME plastered on the front of your face; a call for attention that also serves as an invitation for people to openly judge you. Most of us walk through life at various levels of happy anonymity, but Glass puts a spotlight on you unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.”

Sarah’s hesitancy with Google glass wasn’t a fear of technology, but instead wariness about what Patel might do with the photos.

“At one point during the evening Sarah Palin arrived at the hotel and made a smooth, practiced pass through the bar shaking hands and taking photos with a long line of admirers,” Patel wrote. “I stood next to her for several minutes but she wouldn’t take a photo with me or wear Glass. ‘What’s in it for us?’ asked her husband Todd, staring squarely at the camera and screen floating just above my hazy, bourbon-enhanced eyes. ‘We don’t know what company you’re with.’ ”

Others still take Sarah Palin’s no to Google glass as a sign of her refusal to accept change. In a recent Facebook post Palin also cast doubt on climate change.

“Global warming my gluteus maximus,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page with  a picture of her youngest daughter, Piper, playing in the snow after graduation.“This is what ‘Grad Blast’ means in Alaska! We’ll move our graduation b-b-q indoors and watch the mini-blizzard from ’round the fireplace.”

So for Sarah Palin it’s no to Google glass, no to climate change.

Billions Worldwide Suffer From Major Tooth Decay

tooth decay a global epidemic

Deciduous (baby) teeth are lost and replaced by permanent teeth – erupting around six years of age, forcibly shedding the temporary tooth. The mouth undergoes a transitional period of mixed dentition until the final deciduous tooth is lost, which can happen as late as 12. After that you’re stuck with the teeth you have until the day you die.

Unlike sharks we do not have an ever-revolving set of teeth. Once lost, humans must endure wearing oral prosthodontics that mimic actual teeth – implants, partials, and dentures – which can be fairly expensive.

Several lifestyle and genetic factors can impact our overall oral health – smoking, alcohol and drug use, excessive consumption of soda and sweets, poor diet, lack of regular hygiene, and general health. Overtime these can create dental caries (cavities), which if left untreated can result in the loss of teeth, as well as collaterally contribute to a host of illnesses, infections, and disease.

A tooth is in a constant state of demineralization and re-mineralization. There are four main criteria required for caries formation: a tooth surface (enamel or dentin), bacteria, fermentable carbohydrates, and time.

Tooth decay disease is essentially caused by specific types of bacteria that produce acid in the presence of fermentable carbohydrates such as sucrose, fructose, and glucose – found in items like fruit juices and soda.

The mineral content of teeth is sensitive to fluctuations in acidity from the production of lactic acid. When the oral pH at the surface of the tooth drops below 5.5, demineralization proceeds faster than re-mineralization. Thus there is a net loss of mineral structure on the tooth’s surface, allowing decay to ensue.

Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various treatments can be used to restore teeth to proper form, function, and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of tooth structure.

Dental health organizations advocate preventive measures of regular oral hygiene – flossing and brushing regularly – and dietary modifications – limiting sweets and drinking plenty of water. Taking the aforementioned precautions can inhibit the development of cavities.

Decay is not a painless process – creating excruciating discomfort – effecting one’s ability to eat and sleep properly. Severe tooth loss has been linked to other health conditions such as heart disease and stroke.

For those of you who irresponsibly assume rotten baby teeth cannot affect the development of permanent teeth in your child’s mouth, the decay can persist beyond the deciduous tooth, into the gums, and consume the underlying tooth waiting to erupt. Take precautions and take action on maintaining your child’s good oral health, brushing all surfaces of their teeth, not just the front, even if they only have one or two to start with. The gums and tongue shouldn’t be neglected either.

The new report, “Global Burden of Oral Conditions 1990-2010: A Systematic Analysis,” led by Professor Wagner Marcenes, with colleagues at the University of Washington, Seattle, and the University of Queensland, Australia – and published in the Journal of Dental Research – has determined billions of people across the globe are suffering from major untreated dental problems.

Professor Marcenes, of the Institute of Dentistry at Queen Mary, coordinated an international research team, investigating oral health as part of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. They found a significant portion of the global population had untreated tooth decay or cavities in their permanent teeth. It was the most prevalent of all 291 major diseases and injuries assessed in the study – affecting nearly 35 percent of the world’s population.

“This total does not even include small cavities or mild gum diseases, so we are facing serious problems in the population’s oral health,” stated Professor Marcenes. According to the report, oral conditions accounted for an average health loss of 224 years per 100,000 people – years lived with disability (YLDs) – more than 25 out of 28 categories of cancer.

Also, the global burden of oral conditions is shifting from severe tooth loss towards severe periodontitis and untreated caries – the largest increases seen in Eastern (52 percent), Central (51 percent) and Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania (48 percent).

The findings of the research highlight an urgent organized response to oral health problems on an epic scale.

minivan-crash-7-dead-in-upstate-new-york video

Seven people died last night when a tractor-trailer disconnected from its rig and crashed into a minivan in Upstate N.Y.

KCTV5 reports that the crash occurred around 6 pm on Wednesday night on Route 13 near Truxton in Upstate New York. Seven people died in the crash, including three adults and four young children. According to the Washington Post, all four of the children were under the age of 10.

Capt. Mark Helms of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department said that the trailer disconnected from the rig while driving down route 10 and crashed into the minivan. Ken Stone, first assistant fire chief of Truxton, said that the minivan tried to avoid the incoming trailer but did not have enough time.

Stone told the Washington Post: “They tried to miss it, but he ran out of time … All of a sudden, a trailer is coming at you and there’s no truck on it. Tore it right apart … It was humbling, especially young kids. It tears you up.”

The crash in upstate N.Y. took the lives of Teresa Bush, 26, and her two daughters Alexis, 4, and Jasmine, 5. Lena Beckwith, 21 and Carino Vanorden, 24 were also killed in the crash. Shawn Mead survived the crash but his two children, Alyssa, 7 and Tyler, 4 died in the crash.

Shawn was taken to the Upstate University Hospital and is reportedly in good condition.

Ann Maxson, 74, a lifelong Truxton resident who knew the deceased, said: “It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen. It’s just a horrible thing. It gives me goosebumps … It’s a close-knit community. Everybody cares for everybody.”

Netflix Could Order Season 5 Of ‘Arrested Development’

More AD could be heading to Netflix

Arrested Development could be getting another season on Netflix if the stars and writers agree to return.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings told CNBC that, if all the cast members are able find time to film new episodes, a fifth season of the show is possible.

After being off the air since 2006, Arrested Development finally returned with 15 new episodes, all available for immediate streaming on Netflix, this past weekend. The majority of the original cast returned for the fourth season, including all of the Bluth and Funke family members.

“We’ve had very high expectations from the beginning for Arrested Development. It’s got a well-known brand, and it met all of those expectations. It’s been huge, just as we had hoped,” Hastings said. He wouldn’t say how many people streamed the new episodes over the weekend, but said that it wasn’t something the company was too focused on.

“Netflix is about being able to watch when you want. So we’re really not focused on the Day 1 ratings, it’s really over the first year,” he said.

Procera, a network intelligence company, indicated that 10 percent of Netflix subscribers had watched the entire fourth season by Monday. Peak Web traffic for the site was up 10 percent from the previous week, which Procera attributed to Arrested Development.

What makes Hastings’ comments particularly interesting, however, is the fact that the fourth season has been said to to set up an Arrested Development movie, which was also hinted at in the season 3 finale. This was again confirmed by Jason Bateman, who said creator Mitch Hurwitz wanted to wrap up the Bluth family saga once and for all.

If the fate of a fifth season rests on cast availability, would that eliminate the chances of a movie, or would both options still be on the table? And which would come first, new episodes or a full-length film?

Do you want to see a fifth season of Arrested Development?

Bryan Brown, Sam Neill In New Crime-Drama At ABC1

Bryan Brown and Sam Neill have decided to go Old School at ABC1 in a new eight-part drama series for Australian television, according to a Thursday report from Twitch.

The show focuses on a retired cop (Neill) and retired criminal (Brown), who team up to solve crimes. It will be based on the 2003 film Lennie Cahill Shoots Through from director Paul Oliver, which starred Tony Barry in the role Brown will now be occupying.

Oliver teamed up with Steve Wright for the series pitch, which will be produced by Matchbox Pictures and distributed internationally by the production company’s owner NBCUniversal, which means there may be a shot at seeing this on Hulu sometime in the next year.

Let’s hope.

In the late 1980s/early 1990s, the US really seemed to dig Australian culture, revealed in small part through our love for Crocodile Dundee movies and, to a lesser degree, Old School series star Bryan Brown, who made a splash in Hollywood through the underrated and too-often-overlooked F/X films.

I caught F/X 2 on Amazon Prime a few nights ago, and if you’re in the mood for a sweet buddy action-comedy, then you need to head over to Amazon right after reading the rest of this article and give it a watch. It’s still a lot of fun.

As for Sam Neill, he will best be remembered by American audiences for his lead role in the original Jurassic Park.

ABC’s head of fiction Carole Sklan was overjoyed to land the two stars. In comments reported by TBI Vision, Sklan said, “This fabulous show is witty, tough, smart, and full of great characters. We’re really thrilled to have Bryan Brown and Sam Neill heading such a wonderful cast, and to be working with Matchbox Pictures again after such successful collaborations on series including The Slap and The Straits.”

Added series creator Oliver, “Old School was born from my short film Lennie Cahill Shoots Through, and is a love letter to Sydney, its shady corners, its unique characters and its rich history of cops, crims and all those in between.”

Are you fans of Bryan Brown and Sam Neill? Will you be watching Old School?

Tornado Watch Issued For Parts Of Oklahoma

Tornado Watch Issued For Oklahoma

A new tornado watch was issued for eastern and central Oklahoma on Thursday.

The Storm Prediction Center said the region might see severe storms later this afternoon and evening. Officials said these supercells are capable of producing three-inch hail and tornadoes.

It’s also believed the severe weather will affect other regions as well. Weather experts said the storms could make their way through parts of Texas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and Wisconsin.

“We have a very complex forecast again today. We do look into the atmosphere and see more ingredients in place today for supercells and tornadoes than what we saw yesterday,” National Weather Service meteorologist Rich Smith explained.

Officials said some of the storms moving through eastern and central Oklahoma might be severe. The supercells could arrive in tornado recovery areas between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm CDT.

“Storms may develop one to two counties west of Interstate 35 along the dryline. [There is a] higher tornado potential today, higher potential for large hail today. Still lots of question marks, though. This is not a slam-dunk guaranteed tornado forecast,” Smith said.

According to the watch statement issued by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, people in the affected areas may see large hail and damaging wind gusts of up to 70 MPH. This is certainly not good news for those who are still trying to recover from last week’s storms.

Unfortunately, the threat of severe storms may continue into the weekend. Smith said there is a moderate risk of severe storms in the same region on Friday. Weather officials are continuing to monitor the situation, particularly around Moore, Okalhoma.

The National Weather Service has officially upgraded last week’s tornado to an EF-5. In addition to wind gusts that reached 200 MPH, the tornado’s path was 17 miles long and 1.3 miles wide.

People living in parts of Oklahoma who are currently under the tornado watch should stay tuned to local reports for more information about the possible storms.

Slow Down Justin Bieber, Says Keyshawn Johnson

Ex-NFL star Keyshawn Johnson just wants Justin bieber to slow down.

Now an ESPN pundit, Johnson is one of two witnesses to have made statements to Los Angeles police claiming that they saw the teen singer speeding in a white Ferrari  in the Calabasas, Calif., neighborhood on Monday evening.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore says Johnson — who had been standing outside by his Prius with his three-year-old daughter — tailed the Ferrari to Bieber’s home in Calabasas to confront the singer about his alleged reckless driving.

A second witness who was taking trash out also saw Bieber in the driver’s seat, Whitmore said.

According to police reports, on arriving at Bieber’s home Johnson says he saw the 19-year-old backing his Ferrari into a garage. At that point, it’s alleged that the former football star “reached out his arm to prevent the garage door from closing and confronted Bieber who was in the driver’s seat.”

Johnson says the Canadian went into his house without speaking to him. Police attending Bieber’s home were also unable to speak to the singer and were told by security that he had been advised by counsel not to talk to them.

Johnson’s agent, Jerome Stanley, reportedly told TMZ, his client believes the pop star’s driving in the gated community is akin to “playing with dynamite,” adding:

“Keyshawn is taking the situation very seriously … he wants Justin to slow down and be a responsible neighbor.”

Bieber’s camp have denied the singer was driving the Ferrari. This scenario has taken on two forms over the last two days:

1:  22-year-old Odd Future rapper/producer Tyler, The Creator was driving.

2: The singer only got into the driving seat at his house in order to back the car  into his garage.

However, Whitmore and other reports say several witnesses claim to have seen the teen behind the wheel. The spokesman has now issued a public challenge to the singer:

“Mr Bieber is making statements through others that he was not driving. If he wants to set the record straight, contact us for a sit-down, thorough interview. He has to ask himself this question, ‘If you have nothing to hide, why not talk to us?’”

That sound? A gauntlet.

Florida Man Says Zombie Attack Forced Him To Break Into Hotel

Zombie Attack Florida

A Florida man said the threat of a zombie attack forced him to break into a St. Petersburg hotel on Wednesday.

David Allen Jensen told police that he was running away from a horde of the undead when he threw a piece of concrete through a pane of glass at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront hotel.

Before turning his attention to the hotel, security guards said Jensen was attempting to break into cars in the hotel’s parking lot. According to police, the suspect was on the prowl for tobacco.

By the time police arrived on the scene, the 41-year-old homeless man had managed to get into a yellow 1991 Mercedes. He’d also tossed the donut-sized piece of concert used to protect sprinklers heads at the building.

To explain his behavior, Jensen told officers that he trying to avoid a zombie attack when he broke the glass at the hotel. However, he later admitted that he was just looking for tobacco while prowling around the parking lot.

The homeless man was arrested and charged with burglary and throwing a deadly missile into a building. Until he locates $15,000 for bail, he will remain in Pinellas County Jail.

Strangely enough, this isn’t the first time this year that someone has attempted to blame the undead for their peculiar behavior.

The Inquisitr previously reported that 25-year-old Jerimiah Clyde Hartline stole a strawberry truck in an effort to escape a zombie attack in California. During his attempt to escape, he caused multiple accidents and injured several people.

Since Hartline wasn’t an experienced big rig driver, he eventually caused the truck to jack-knife in the middle of Interstate 15. Hartline will plea guilty to three counts of causing great bodily injury, which could land him behind bars for around 12 years.

What do you think about the man said he was breaking into a Florida hotel in order to avoid a zombie attack?

Oldest Torah Scroll Discovered

Carbon dating confirms that the oldest Torah scroll known, was found in Italy. The scroll, believed to be 800 years old, is also the most complete scroll discovered to date.

Professor Mauro Perani of the University of Bologna has estimated that the scrolls were dated to sometime between 1155 and 1225. The scroll was dated using carbon-14 testing. It is written in Hebrew, and reportedly contains the entire text of the Five Books of Moses.

As reported by National Geographic, the scrolls were previously given an inaccurate date. In 1889 Leonello Modona, a librarian, estimated that the scroll was written in the 17th century.

Modona thought the scroll was written in Palestinian tradition, which to him appeared “clumsy-looking.” Upon further inspection in 2012, researchers realized that the “clumsy” writing was actually Babylonian, and originated much earlier than the 17th century.

Professor Perani realized that he may have discovered the oldest Torah scroll in existence. The scroll was sent to the University of Sorrento for carbon dating tests. A second opinion, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, confirmed the estimated date of origin from 1155 to 1225.

Researches estimate that the scroll was originally obtained by a monastery and eventually ended up at the University of Bologna. The scroll has been in the university’s library for hundreds of years. Unfortunately, it was not until recently that the scroll’s significance was fully known.

As reported by ABC News, the scroll is not the oldest existing Torah text. The Leningrad and Aleppo codices are both close to 1,000 years old. However, the newly discovered document is the oldest Torah scroll. It is also the most complete work known to exist.

A scroll, as explained by Chabad.org, is one long sheet where the Five Books of Moses are handwritten in Hebrew. The first original Torah scroll is said to have been written by Moses as dictated by God. The long sheet is usually stored rolled up like a tube.

In contrast, a Torah codex contains the same text but is in the form of a book.

Perani explains that “the value of this discovery is due to its rarity and to the importance that the Torah has for Jews and Judaism.”

The oldest Torah scroll has not only religious, but historical significance as well. Now that its true age is known, researchers plan to store the scroll more carefully so it will remain preserved.

Woman sues MAC after contracting herpes

A Harlem woman who tried MAC’s RiRi Woo lipstick at a Rihanna concert is suing the makeup company after she contracted herpes from the used cosmetic.

Starkeema Greenidge was attending a Rihanna concert at the Barclays Center on May 7 when she stopped at a  MAC pop-up shop. There, a MAC representative applied a used tube of RiRi Woo to her lips. The rep also told the 28-year-old to “press her lips together and spread the lipstick around,” according to the lawsuit.

“[MAC] didn’t use a fresh or new lipstick tube, but rather one that had been used for other patrons,” the suit alleges.

Two days later, Greenidge developed a cold sore on her lip, which her doctor diagnosed as herpes.

“I wasn’t able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money,” Greenidge said.

Greenidge filed the lawsuit in Mahattan Supreme Court, hoping that it would force the company to use more sanitary practices in the future. She said MAC should train its employees to use swabs or disposable tubes to apply lipstick.

“This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done,” she said. Greenidge is seeking unspecified damages and claiming that the herpes has caused her “mental anguish and emotional distress.”

MAC has yet to comment on the lawsuit.

Rihanna signed a deal with MAC in February to create her own cosmetics line. RiRi Woo was inspired by the Bajan singer’s favorite red lipstick, Ruby Woo. The release of her line coincided with Rihanna’s “Diamonds World Tour,” which kicked off March 8 in Buffalo and will wrap November 15 in New Orleans. RiRi Woo debuted online on May 2  and sold out in just three hours.

What do you think of Starkeema Greenidge’s lawsuit again MAC?

‘Halo Bootcamp’ Outed By Korea’s Game Ratings Board, Confirmed By Microsoft

halo-bootcamp-confirmed-by-microsoft

Recently, a listing on Korea’s Game Ratings Board was discovered for a mysterious title from Microsoft referred to as Halo: Bootcamp. Rather than going with a “no comment” on the listing, Microsoft has instead opted to confirm the title’s existence.

Unfortunately, just what it is, exactly, is unknown – but we at least know what it isn’t.

In response to all of the speculation, Microsoft issued a statement to CVG confirming that Halo: Bootcamp is indeed a project in the works, and that it’s something the company is “very excited” about.

Additionally, the rep confirmed that the project is not tied to the Reclaimer Saga introduced by 343 Industries’ Halo 4, nor is it associated with Xbox One. Considering that the original listing pegged it as a PC game, it would seem that Microsoft is looking into crafting some sort of online game set in the Halo universe – possibly even an MMO.

Here’s what the rep told the site:

“What’s Bootcamp? It is not related to our Xbox One efforts, or the Reclaimer Saga, but rather a project we’re very enthusiastic about and will have more to say about in the near future.”

There are more questions still. That Halo: Bootcamp showed up first on the Korean Ratings Board could suggest that the project could be an online game geared towards the Asian market, but not necessarily. In the industry, we see international titles outed by foreign ratings boards just about every month.

If there’s anything that’s certain, it’s that news of the game’s existence has fans of the series’ interests piqued. It’s certainly possible that Microsoft may make mention of the title – and possibly even show it – at E3 next month, but Microsoft hasn’t said when it plans to pull back the curtains.

If Halo: Bootcamp makes it to the west – and is indeed for the PC – would you be interested in playing an online game set in Halo‘s universe? Something along the lines of PlanetSide 2, perhaps? Or would you prefer a more traditional Halo game?

Familiar though it may be, the formula still apparently works.

Jallen Messersmith, a junior forward at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, came out as gay. The news makes Messersmith the first US men’s college basketball player to be openly gay while still playing.

The junior explained his decision for coming out to Outsports.com, saying he wanted to do so to help other gay athletes feel comfortable about themselves. Messersmith added:

“When I started coming out, I didn’t have anyone to look to for advice or to see how their story went. People can look to see what happened to me — and there are positive things going on.”

The junior forward revealed his sexual preferences to his coach last summer. He told his teammates just before the season started. Messersmith added that none of them were bothered by the news. Benedictine guard Brett Fisher stated:

“He’s a very outgoing player, and if you need an example of a hustler, it’s him. He’s doing the dirty work for the team. He’s getting blocks on defense, he’s getting every rebound. We like him on the team.”

Jallen Messersmith’s announcement that he is gay comes just one month after Jason Collins did the same thing in a Sports Illustrated article. But Collins’ decision didn’t affect Messersmith’s reason for going public with his homosexuality. The college player added, “He wasn’t a buffer for me.”

Messersmith added that almost everyone at his 2,000-student college already knew he was gay. He has had no correspondence with Collins. Still, the college player added, “It’s awesome to have another person in my sport to come out [nationally] beforehand.”

Messersmith was first interviewed about his sexuality in March. Since then he has received all positive feedback. He acknowledged feeling anxious about the possible reactions he would get, but did so anyway. The player added:

“The big thing for me, why I wanted to do it, before the whole Jason Collins thing, is there weren’t a lot of basketball-related stories like this.”

Jallen Messersmith’s college declined to comment on his coming out, saying, “Obviously, it would be inappropriate for us to discuss the private lives of students. As an institution we treat all students with respect and sensitivity.”

Zal Batmanglij

Most of the time filmmakers will put an immense amount of research before taking on a feature. For director and co-writer Zal Batmanglij, the research was already there as he dove into his latest feature with its star Brit Marling.  Long before receiving buzz for Sound of My Voice, Batmanglij and Marling found themselves penniless in the summer of 2009. Out of necessity and curiosity the two decided to embark on a mission to live off the land. Together they found a new perspective on the monotony of life while being on the outside looking in on a consumerism-driven culture. From dumpster diving for food, to hopping trains, and squatting in abandoned buildings, the two couldn’t shake the experience.

Batmanglij and Marling used their experiences and their passion for showing alternative lifestyles to create a gripping spy thriller in The East.  The fruits of Batmanglij’s labor resulted in an intense thriller that acts as a talking political piece about the contradictions of living in a modern society. Living off the grid helped the filmmaker to capture collective spy Sarah, a determined young agent whom finds herself infiltrating a strange world of “The East”, a collective that poisons huge corporations with their own medicine. Pulled between two very different worlds, Sarah is put in the very complicated situation of questioning her own morality.

While Sound of My Voice saw Batmanglij question the truth surrounding the power in cults, The East unravels the truth we’ve been engrained with by the powers that be. Zal Batmanglij sat down with The Inquisitr’s Niki Cruz to discuss living a modern life, and living outside of it.

******

THE INQUISITR: You bought a camera when you were younger. Can you talk about making your earlier movies?

BATMANGLIJ: I wanted to be a filmmaker, so my parents helped me by encouraging me to save my allowance. So I bought my first video camera, and I would make movies, but I never made a movie that I finished until I was in college.  There was no expectation but I would make movies every day.

THE INQUISITR: Working with Brit [Marling], do you see your career with her as a progression?

BATMANGLIJ: We wrote our films back to back and they sort of came from the same period of our lives, which is a period of looking for our tribe, and wanting a tribe. We felt that sense of tribalism. Whatever we’re going through now, since we’re still so close, whatever movie comes next will be born out of the fountain of what’s going into these experiences now.

THE INQUISITR: Did writing about this freegan lifestyle put you back into that whole mindset of your own personal experience living off the land?

BATMANGLIJ: Yeah it did. I couldn’t shake that time so we had to find a way to make sense of it. We wanted to write a spy thriller anyway, so we said let’s combine the two together. That’s how the movie was born.

THE INQUISITR: What was scarier? Getting into the freeganism movement or coming back out of it?

BATMANGLIJ: When we went into it we stopped watching films, we stopped listening to recorded music, and we didn’t know what was going on in the media. We didn’t have any access to television. We entered into a capitalist free zone. What replaced it was kissing each other during spin the bottle, taking food out of the trash. We learned how to fix up bicycles; we would fix them up and ride them around the city. When we came back we were shocked by the world that we had taken for granted before. It was so overwhelming. If you go see a movie, not only do you have to navigate the intensity of film, but also it’s inauthenticity. You’re watching other people fall in love or scrape their knees, or get beat up, rather then you doing those things, so when you spend two months kind of doing those things but not experiencing them on screen you kind of feel like films are weird. You also have to navigate 20 minutes of ads before a movie now.

THE INQUISITR: Does any of that carry over into your life now?

BATMANGLIJ: It’s funny how quickly human beings adapt. A part of that is always with me. I’m always sort of very wary and very aware. I remember us going to a Whole Foods to use a bathroom about a month and a half into our summer, and everyone kept looking at us. We thought they all smelled funny because they used so much chemicals in their hair from the shampoo. By the time we got to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, we looked totally different from how they did. Our hair wasn’t showered, and I had a beard. We had these eyes, which I consider these “underground eyes.” I always thought they were eyes that were saying  “I hate you” and I realized they were eyes that were fearlessness.

THE INQUISITR: How did those experiences affect you as a director? Did you use digital versus film?

BATMANGLIJ: Anarchist collectives are all about egalitarianism and having no leadership. A film set is all about hierarchy but I always like to think about the circus. In the circus there’s this real sense of tribalism and they’re all on the road together. I don’t think the ring leader is more important than the clown. They all work together, and I think that I felt that on The East. During the nighttime champagne scene, the costumers that would dress the actors by putting heating pads in the dresses and the shoes, because it was so cold. There was such a thoughtfulness there, and it showed that their job isn’t any more important than my job. Everyone was working together to make a common film.

THE INQUISITR: So far in your career the research or in this case experiences you’ve put into films has been unique. Do you think you’ll get to that point where you don’t want to put the research in but still want to make a film?

BATMANGLIJ: I think it’s really important that you don’t get caught up in the way the filmmaking community isolates you and the way your life ends up being. I hope that I get the chance to recharge my batteries, and to be a real person as much as possible.

THE EAST HITS THEATERS ON MAY 31.

EA To Make Online Passes For Old Games Free

ea-online-pass-removed-for-old-games

As if the recent news that Electronic Arts would be dropping Online Pass requirements for its future titles wasn’t surprising enough on its own, EA today confirmed that it will be discontinuing Online Passes for older titles as well.

In other words, buying a used EA game – or borrowing one – from here on out should no longer lock you out of any of the game’s content, regardless if the game is new or old.

There will, however, be a catch: you’ll still need to download the online pass. Although newer titles will reportedly require no code, older titles do. To make up for that fact, EA today began the process of making all of its Online Passes free on your platform of choice’s digital marketplace.

As of writing, not all of the changes have been made; according to a NeoGAF thread, Online Passes for American McGee’s Alice, Bad Company 2, Bulletstorm, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Mass Effect 2, Medal of Honor (pictured above), SHIFT 2 and Skate 3 have all been made free.

“As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well,” a spokesperson told Eurogamer. “We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether.”

Some titles, the representative went on to explain, won’t require an online activation pass at all.

“Players will see it first with some EA Sports titles, where a prompt to enter an Online Pass code will no longer appear in-game,” the representative said, adding that “with other titles we are simply making Online Passes available free of charge online.”

The move is an interesting one, to say the least. The intention behind the Online Pass to begin with was to rake in profits from the sale of used games. It could be a move in preparation for the next generation of consoles, where the handling of used games remains mostly unclear.

Still, I suppose EA deserves some sort of credit. After all, Online Passes caused quite a number of headaches for legitimate consumers.

Artificial Sweeteners May Do More Than Sweeten

no-calorie sweeteners, sugar substitutes may alter metabolism

New research, published in the journal Diabetes Care, suggests no-calorie sweeteners, sugar substitutes may alter metabolism after all.

In a small study, Washington University School of Medicine researchers found that a popular artificial sweetener, sucralose (specifically Splenda®), modified how the body handled sugar.

Sucralose is an is 600 times sweeter than table sugar and was initially discovered in 1976 by researchers at the University of London.

The majority of ingested sucralose is not broken down by the body, so it is considered non-caloric, non-nutritive, and therefore thought to be otherwise inert in regards to metabolism and insulin response.

Using the sugar substitute, clinicians analyzed 17 obese, non-diabetic people who didn’t use artificial sweeteners regularly. This particular population was selected because those who are overweight or obese are often guided towards lessening calorie intake in their diets, using alternative sweeteners to accomplish this.

The team studied a group with an average body mass index (BMI) of 42; obesity is classified with a BMI of 30. Prior to a glucose test, participants were given water or sucralose to drink – then they were given glucose. The researchers wanted to learn whether the combination of sucralose and glucose would affect insulin and blood sugar levels.

The glucose challenge test measures a body’s response to sugar (glucose) and is usually performed in two steps. First by drink a sugary solution and an one hour later, blood sugar levels are measured. The results of a glucose challenge test can indicate whether or not a patient has diabetes.

In this case, each participant was tested twice. Those who drank water followed by glucose in one visit drank sucralose followed by glucose in the next. Thus, each subject served as his/her own control group.

It was determined that the artificial sweetener was related to an enhanced blood insulin and glucose response. Blood sugar peaked higher in those who drank sucralose versus when they drank water before consuming glucose. Insulin levels rose about 20 percent.

An elevated insulin response isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it shows the body is capable of producing enough insulin to deal with the spiked glucose. However, people who routinely secrete more insulin can, over time, become resistant to its effects, which can lead to type 2 diabetes.

According to the lead author, M. Yanina Pepino, PhD, an assistant professor of medicine, “We need to do more studies to determine whether this observation means long-term use could be harmful,” as well as further determining the mechanism of how sucralose influences glucose and insulin levels.

The research was funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Sciences Award, and from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Tate & Lyle provided the sucralose.

Stephen King On God: ‘I Choose To Believe, But I Have Serious Doubts’

Stephen King On God, 'A Peculiar Guy'

Stephen King spoke on God and other topics during a recent interview with NPR Fresh Air’s Terry Gross, later reported by The Los Angeles Times and other media outlets. The prognosis, at least from a faith standpoint, is that King “chooses to believe,” but it’s not without some reservations.

King inferred that “the jury’s out on that” when asked about his belief in a higher power.

“It’s certainly a subject that’s interested me, and I think it interests me more the older that I get,” King said. “And I think we’d all like to believe that after we shuffle off this mortal coil, that there’s going to be something on the other side because for most of us, I know for me, life is so rich, so colorful and sensual and full of good things, things to read, things to eat, things to watch, places to go, new experiences, that I don’t want to think that you just go to darkness.”

King remembered that as a child, he would think to himself, “oh God, I hope I don’t die because I’ll just have to lie down there in that box and I won’t be able to play with my friends or go to baseball games or any of those things.”

The Master of Suspense admitted that death always seemed “boring” to him and that as an adult, “it seems more like a waste of everything.”

Thus, King said, “I choose to believe it, yeah. I think that … I mean there’s no downside to that, and the downside — if you say, ‘Well, okay, I don’t believe in God, there’s no evidence of God, then you’re missing the stars in the sky, and you’re missing the sunrises and sunsets, and you’re missing the fact that bees pollinate all these crops and keep us alive and the way that everything seems to work together at the same time.”

King added: “Everything is sort of built in a way that to me suggests intelligent design.”

While the Stephen King belief on God certainly seems conservative, the bestselling author has been anything but throughout his career — siding heavily with Democrats on everything from taxes to gun control — and he’s not ready to attend any tent revivals just yet, stating that “as far as God and church and religion and the Buddy Rosses and that sort of thing, I kind of always felt that organized religion was just basically a theological insurance scam where they’re saying, ‘If you spend time with us, guess what, you’re going to live forever, you’re going to go to some other plain where you’re going to be so happy, you’ll just be happy all the time,’ which is also kind of a scary idea to me.”

The ultimate stance of Stephen King on God: not as sure as he was 10 or 12 years ago. King said there was a “lot of things in life where you say to yourself, well, if this is God’s plan, it’s very peculiar. And you have to wonder about that guy’s personality, the big guy’s personality.”

King continued: “The thing is, like, I may have told you last time that I believe in God. What I’m saying now is I choose to believe in God, but I have serious doubts.”

Do you agree with Stephen King on God — do you choose to believe or really believe? Share your thoughts.
