First there was the wolf pack in The Hangover and now the old timers are getting their own Hangover-esque adventure. Months ago we debuted the synopsis for Last Vegas, the film that sees Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline, Robert DeNiro and Michael Douglas rolling the dice for a boys only weekend.

Now we have the first exclusive teaser trailer that sees the guys getting a little loopy. The first trailer shows the men gathering in Las Vegas on the heels of Kevin Kline’s character nuptials. The four men promise they’re going to party like it’s 1959, but it looks like we shouldn’t expect any bobbysoxers in this one.

Instead the men find themselves involved in some crazy hi-jinks and in one scene it looks like they waltz into a true MTV spring break situation. From the trailer we can gather that the guys will have their share of barely legal women, booze, and gambling — all things that are synonymous with Las Vegas.

It’s harmless fun for these guys and it looks like a great time at the movies. Directed by Jon Turteltaub of National Treasure fame, the film looks like a huge hit in the making, mainly because it has as much comedic value as watching one’s grandpa get drunk. Really, who can resist watching Freeman get his vodka and redbull on? It sounds like it could be a separate film all by itself.

Hopefully Freeman’s comedic and uncensored performance will dispel those pesky death rumors that seem to crop up every few months. Speaking about his death hoax, Freeman mentioned his time in Las Vegas while filming the comedy: “I did go to Las Vegas to begin work on the film Last Vegas. That is anything but a death sentence.”

The Apple App Store has now collected more than 50 billion downloads since its time of launch.

Apple on Thursday announced that its massive mobile devices platform has passed the major milestone and that Brandon Ashmore of Mentor Ohio downloaded the company’s 50 billionth app. Brandon will receive a $10,000 app store gift card for being the first person to reach the 50 billion downloads milestone.

Apple is also handing out $500 gift cards to the app stores 50 runner-ups.

Apple launched the App Store in July 2008 and reached its first 10 billion downloads in January 2011. In 2012 the company announced that it had surpassed 25 billion downloads. The App Store continued to perform well and in January 2013 Apple announced its 40 billionth app store download.

The 50 billionth download was a free iPhone app called Say the Same Thing by Space Inch. The app was recently featured in a video or the band OK Go. 

Apple based the 50 billion download mark on unique downloads which means customers who uninstall and reinstall apps at a later time were not included in the tally. Updates were also not included in Apple’s final tally for App Store downloads.

Speaking about the company’s massive success  Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Services and Software Eddy Cue said:

“Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded. We’re absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years.”

While Google Android devices have continually outsold Apple devices around the world, the Cupertino based tech giant has managed to win over more web savvy users. Apple consistently ranks as the number one data provider for mobile device users.

Chad Johnson has a warrant out for his arrest.

According to NFL.com, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for the former NFL player for violating terms of his probation.

The BSO claims that Johnson failed to failed to show proof that he completed the “Batterers Intervention Program” and also failed to meet with his probation specialists twice earlier this year. Maybe Johnson was too busy treating homeless men to new wardrobes and drinks at the club.

According to TMZ, the warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest back on May 7. Once Johnson is taken into custody, a trial will be set to determine if he did violate the terms of his parole.

Johnson was arrested last August after getting into a physical altercation with his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada. The reality star claimed that Johnson head-butted her after she accused him of cheating.

The former NFL player was charged with domestic battery and was sentenced to one year of probation.

The 6-time Pro Bowler hasn’t played in the NFL was in 2011. He was picked up by the Miami Dolphins for the 2012 season but was cut shortly after his arrest. Johnson has been working to make a comeback to the NFL but the wide receivers legal troubles may put an end to that dream.

It would seem that Gazans are willing to go to great lengths to enjoy the taste of Colonel Sanders’ secret recipe for fried chicken.

Never mind that it takes 4 hours to get to the customers (which sort of defeats the whole idea of fast food). Never mind that the French fries arrive soggy and that the chicken is no longer crunchy. Or that it costs a whopping $30 a meal (3 times the usual price) due to the delivery costs. “It has been a dream, and this company has made my dream come true,” says Mr. Shororo, one of the Gazans receiving a delivery, according to Yahoo! News.

“It’s our right to enjoy that taste the other people all over the world enjoy,” said Khalil Efrangi, 31, who started Yamama (Arabic for Pigeon), the delivery smuggling service that gets KFC fried chicken into Gaza.

According to The Telegraph a typical run for the company is about 30 deliveries. “We place the order with the restaurant in El-Arish, then drive it in a car to the Egyptian side of Rafah” said Efrangi, then “someone takes it from there through the tunnels to (Gazan) Rafah. They then drive it to our headquarters (in Gaza City).”

This new idea did not start out as a business plan but rather as the result of a momentary hankering for KFC fried chicken. A number of the Yamama employees ordered from KFC from Egyptian Al-Arish and had it delivered to them within 3 hours. ”Then we asked ourselves, ‘Why don’t we provide this service for Gazans?’” said Mohammed al-Madani, financial manager for Yamama.

After the order is placed and paid for with a wire transfer, the meals travel over 20 miles from the Al-Arish KFC branch to Rafah and are then handed over to boys who smuggle them under the border through tunnels. They are then picked up by another cab driver who takes them all the way to Gaza City for distribution.

The process has raised its share of eyebrows though. “I wonder why people pay a lot of money to buy a small meal of chicken,” asks smuggler Abu Iyad. “I can buy four chickens for the price of one meal”.

Still, Abu Iyad is not complaining since this new hankering has given the smuggling business a shot in the arm. ”The tunnel business is not like before, things are going worse and barely work, especially after the Egyptian army started to tear down the tunnels,” says Abu Iyad.

Between Egypt’s attempts to shut down illegal smuggling tunnels and Israel’s relaxing of its embargo, smugglers can no longer charge the premiums they did only 3 years ago. Where once a meal like this would cost $200, today the smugglers consider themselves lucky if they can get $20.

What’s more, Mr. Efrangi’s operation may soon find itself with some serious competition that is likely to put an end to this smuggling service. According to the New York Times, Adeeb al-Bakri, who owns four KFC and Pizza Hut franchises in the West Bank, said that he has working out the detail for opening a restaurant in Gaza.

When told about the smuggling operation and the 4 hour delivery time Mr. Bakri simply said “We dump it after half an hour”.

An unnamed source at NBC has confirmed that Fred Armisen will be leaving Saturday Night Live after 11 seasons.

The source also went on to say that Jason Sudeikis will “probably” leave the sketch comedy series as well at the end of the season.

Neither departure isn’t completely unexpected. Since co-creating the IFC sketch comedy series Portlandia in 2010, Armisen’s appearances on SNL have been more and more infrequent. And Sudeikis has been rumored to be leaving SNL since last year. Sudeikis had been portraying Mitt Romney throughout the election, and once Obama was re-elected, Sudeikis lost his biggest reason to remain on the show. While he also portrayed Vice President Joe Biden, it was unlikely that the role would be enough to keep him on the show.

Sudeikis’ movie career is also booming right now (he has three films in the tank this year), and he could decide to focus on scoring more lead roles instead of playing second banana to Jay Pharoah for the next three years.

Should Armisen and Sudeikis leave, they will be joining Bill Hader, who announced his departure earlier this week.

“It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point,” Hader said. “It got to a point where I said, ‘Maybe it’s just time to go.”

Seth Meyers is also leaving the show, although it won’t be until next year. SNL‘s head writer will be returning in the fall and will leave halfway through the season to host Last Night. Current host Jimmy Fallon will moving to take Jay Leno’s spot on the Tonight Show.

Sudeikis and Armisen’s departures would leave Kenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan as the most senior cast members, with 10 and six seasons, respectively.

When Ain’t Them Bodies Saints debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, it worked its way up as an audience favorite throughout its run. Now that IFC has it under its belt and ready for an August 16th release, the first clip starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara has hit the web.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

“Set against the backdrop of 1970′s Texas Hill Country, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a romantic American story that follows three characters on various sides of the law – outlaw Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck), his wife Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), and a local sheriff named Patrick Wheeler (Ben Foster), who gets caught in their crosshairs.”

For director David Lowery, who also wrote the film, this is his second feature film. The film was developed at the Sundance Institute’s Writing and Producing Labs. In addition to Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, the film also stars Ben Foster, Keith Carradine, Nate Parker, Rami Malek, Kennadie Smith and David Zellner.

The clip below sees the opening scene from the film with its stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara having an intense fight. Their back and forth is palpable and certainly relatable as they pull and tug through their insecurities of being without each other. In the clip, Mara is specifically vulnerable as she asks if Affleck plans to leave her after hearing news that he’s going out on his own.

When Affleck realizes the misunderstanding, he becomes amused and dead-set on convincing Mara that her worst fears are wrong. The scene is framed beautifully with the natural light of the sun capturing the two figures in the argument.

An early review of Ain’t Them Bodies Saints briefly discusses the direction of the film: “Director and writer David Lowery avoids every cliche from the action-thriller, romance and noir handbooks, transmitting a palpable sense of the pain caused by forced absence from a loved one. He tightens the angst through deft pacing, avoiding any jailbreaks, high-speed car chases and shootouts, and instead making us feel the anxiety of waiting. That makes the very occasional moments of fierce, furious action even more endorphin-packed.”

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints opens in theaters August 16, 2013.

Emma Watson’s character in The Bling Ring is “vain,” superficial,” “materialistic” and “amoral.” Which is why the actress watched a lot of Keeping Up With The Kardashians to prepare for the role.

The actress said that she watched episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, The Hills and The World According To Paris in order to get into character.

Watson said: “It’d be very easy for (my character) Nicki to feel like a parody … Somehow I had to understand and empathize with her and that was really biggest challenge, second to getting the accent down. It’s quite a specific dialect.”

Watson’s latest role is a big departure from the Harry Potter movies but Watson said that it was fun to play a character that was so different from her previous roles.

Watson said: “The character is everything that I felt strongly against. She’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral. She’s all of these things and I realized that I hated her. How do you play someone you hate? But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job or my role as an actress could be.”

The Bling Ring premiered today at the Cannes Film Festival. It is scheduled to hit theaters this June.

Scarlett Johansson is slowly proving that she’s more than a one trick pony. The Tony award winning actress, just ended her run as Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. So with film and theater under her belt, what’s next?

It’s reported that Johansson is set to make her directorial debut for the film Summer Crossing, which is an adaptation of Truman Capote’s first novel of the same title. It’s a brave choice going out the gate, but we have a feeling since she waited so long that this will be handled with care.

The novel, which was written by Capote in the 1940s but released in 2005 centers around a 17-year old debutante living in New York City in the year 1945. Said woman abandons the idea of staying with her family on vacation in France, and starts a romance with a Jewish parking lot attendant in the city instead. Its said that Playwright Tristine Skyler has already written the screenplay. As of right now the film is set to start filming in the summer.

Summer Crossing will be Johansson’s first time directing a feature length film. She got her feet wet in 2008 when she directed a short for the film New York, I Love You which starred The Following’s Kevin Bacon. However, Scarlett’s contribution was cut from the original film.

Perhaps Scarlett Johansson has learned a thing or two about directing from first-time director Joseph Gordon-Levitt who made his directorial debut at Sundance acting alongside Johansson in Don Jon.

In Joe’s film, the actress is opposite Gordon-Levitt, as she plays one half of a doomed relationship. For her own directorial debut in Summer Crossing its not yet known whether she too will pull both duties of acting and directing. Either way it seems like a great albeit challenging piece to direct.

Pat Robertson’s cheating advice didn’t go over as well as he may have hoped. The evangelist, who appeared on Thursday’s 700 Club, responded to a woman pleading for advice on how to forgive her husband’s cheating by saying, “well, he’s a man.”

That comment, along with several other snippets from Robertson’s response, have served to spark outrage against the evangelist and his, well, less than tactful response to “Ivy.” The woman wrote:

“I’ve been trying to forgive my husband for cheating on me. We have gone to counseling, but I just can’t seem to forgive, nor can I trust. How do you let go of the anger? How do you trust again?”

Pat Robertson responded that the woman should, “Stop talking about the cheating.” Instead, the evangelist stated she should focus on the reasons Ivy married her husband and what he does. He added:

“Recognize also, like it or not, males have a tendency to wander a little bit. What you want to do is make a home so wonderful that he doesn’t want to wander.”

It was these words, along with the opener, “well, he’s a man,” which sent the internet into a tussle. Users on Twitter had comments ranging from, “I was just thinking it’s been a while since I came across Pat Robertson saying something stupid,” to “Any woman who falls for this is a fool.”

Another user added, “Pat Robertson marriage counseling: men sometimes cheat — go make the house nice.” The Hollywood Gossip even got in on the criticism of Robertson’s cheating advice, writing:

“Now, the televangelist has words of wisdom for any woman with a cheating husband: GET OVER IT! CONSIDER THE TEMPTATIONS! BE GRATEFUL HE PROVIDES FOR YOU!”

It’s not the first time Pat Robertson’s comments on cheating husbands have been controversial. When David Petraeus’ affair with Paula Broadwell came to light in November, the evangelist asserted that the affair wasn’t a big deal. In January, Robertson also suggested that “awful-looking” women can cause the spark in a marriage to go out.

Pat Robertson’s Cheating Advice Sparks Outrage is a post from: The Inquisitr

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has ruled that President Obama’s recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board are unconstitutional which therefore tosses out any decisions those Board appointees made.

The Philadelphia-based court is the second judicial body to so rule. In January, the D.C. Circuit reached the same general conclusion, i.e. that presidential recess appointments — i.e., those officials who have not received an up-or-down vote in the US Senate — are only valid under the Constitution if they are made when the Senate goes out of operation at the end of the session rather than during frequent breaks it takes throughout the legislative session.

Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution provides that “The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.”

All the legal wrangling revolves around a technical interpretation of “Recess of the Senate.”

In this case, a New Jersey nursing home involved in a labor dispute with a group of nurses challenged an adverse ruling from the union-friendly Labor Board on the grounds that there was no legally required quorum. Three members rendered the disputed decision, all of whom were recess appointees, including Craig Becker, who now works for the AFL-CIO. Recess appointees have not gone through the Senate confirmation process. “The facility, New Vista, contended that the board’s decision was invalid because it did not have enough members active when the decision was issued because the naming of Becker to the board was not a valid recess appointment.” At least three members of the five-member board must participate in a decision for it to be legally binding.

In a 157-page decision that cited legislative history, the Federalist Papers, and the Constitution itself, the appellate court in a 2-1 opinion determined that Becker’s appointment was illegal and therefore the underlying New Vista decision was null and void because the agency lacked a minimum three-member quorum. The court ruled that recess appointment clause in the Constitution refers only to so-called intersession breaks, i.e., those breaks between sessions, rather than pro forma sessions or other temporary adjournments of Senate business during the legislative session. The court added that its decision preserves the checks and balances between the executive and legislative branches by limiting the president’s unilateral appointment authority.

This latest ruling, along with the prior D.C. Circuit opinion, throws hundreds of decisions made by Obama recess appointees into potential legal limbo. It also suggests that the Obama recess appointment of the high-profile Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director — and any regulations that he may have issued — may also be unconstitutional. The D.C. Circuit ruling is on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, however.

Hi-de-Hi! sitcom star Paul Shane died on Thursday at the age of 72. Shane’s agent confirmed the news, saying that the actor passed away while surrounded by close family at a hospice in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Shane made his acting debut by playing entertainer Ted Bovis in Hi-de-Hi!, a TV series set in a holiday camp. Later on, he appeared in You Rang, M’Lord, alongside former cast members of the sitcom.

Paul Shane was born in Rotherham in 1940 and started working as a miner. He turned to the entertainment industry after an accident. He began by singing and entertaining in pubs and clubs in South Yorkshire.

The actor was offered TV work in the early 1970s, though his big break didn’t come until 1980 and the BBC hit Hi-de-Hi!, written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft. The series ran until 1988 and won large audiences, along with a BAFTA for Best Comedy Series, awarded in 1984.

Linda Kramer, Paul Shane’s agent for 15 years, added that Paul loved playing the part of Ted Bovis in the sitcom. She added that he considered it the “ultimate tribute” when he was the subject of This is Your Life, a biographical TV show.

Along with Hi-de-Hi! and You Rang M’Lord, Shane also appeared on other shows, like Holby City and A Touch Of Frost. After his TV career, the actor spent time performing in theatres, including performances in pantomimes. Shane once spoke of undergoing life-saving heart surgery following a series of tests. He stated in May 2009:

“I went to see a heart specialist and an angiogram showed I’ve got narrowing of the arteries. I’m either having two or four bypasses — they don’t know, until the operation. If I didn’t have this op I could be dead in 12 months or I could last ten years. You don’t know, but I’m not taking that risk.”

It is unclear what illness Paul Shane died from. He leaves behind three daughters and six grandchildren. His wife passed away in 2001.

Bea Arthur’s topless painting is causing quite a stir online.

The deceased Golden Girls star was the subject of a 1991 painting by Brooklyn-based artist John Currin simply titled “Bea Arthur Naked.” As the title suggests, the painting depicts Arthur from the waist up, topless, sporting a pretty unspectacular expression, all things being equal.

But Arthur would probably be smiling (maybe blushing), at least after finding out that an anonymous bidder shelled out nearly $2 million for the notorious portrait at a Christie’s auction days ago.

The NSFW painting, which you can see here (warning: can’t un-see), has been long criticized for misogyny, but a Christie spokesperson told the New York Post that if you see it that way, well, you just don’t get it.

“It’s historically significant — it’s radical to sexualize someone people think of as asexual,” the spokesperson opined. “The painting has a visual toughness to it — but it’s also fun.”

That “visual toughness” hasn’t escaped your average passerby online, either. Since the story has gone viral, many commenters on social media fall somewhere in between the auction house’s description of the “Bea Arthur Naked” painting as being both “nostalgic and repelling.”

Either that, or they just embrace the awkward surreal-ness of this postmodern wonder.

Chris Kluwe is heading to Oakland.

The outspoken NFL punter was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this month. The Raiders haven’t officially announced Kluwe’s signing yet but the gay rights advocate told Fox Sports that he was excited to be a Raider.

Kluwe, who has frequently drawn attention for making political statements on and off the field, said that he would continue to express his views while playing for his new team.

Kluwe said: “I’m excited to be an Oakland Raider and be playing in California. Now, my family can actually come to games. I’m still going to be myself socially and continue to tweet and interact with my fans.”

Some people questioned whether or not Kluwe’s views played a role in his release from the Vikings. The Minnesota team admitted that Kluwe’s outspoken opinions could be a distraction but said that Kluwe’s views had nothing to do with his dismissal.

Kluwe, 31, averaged 45 yards on 72 punts last year with the Vikings. He joined Minnesota in 2005 and is the team’s all-time leader for average yards per punt (44.4). He’s also second all-time for total punt yards in Vikings history.

Kluwe will be replacing Shane Lechler for the Oakland Raiders. Lechler left the team after 13 seasons to sign with the Houston Texans.

The search for Susan Powell’s remains in rural Oregon failed to yield any evidence, leading authorities to day they are considering closing the investigation.

Despite the use of cadaver dogs and cops, the search on a farm in rural Oregon yielded only deer bones and other non-human bones. Powell’s disappearance from her home in West Valley, Utah, triggered a massive investigation.

The investigation focused on Powell’s husband, Josh Powell, who claimed his wife disappeared when he and the couple’s two sons went camping. Officials were uncertain of the man’s story, because temperatures in the mountains that night were below freezing from a winter storm.

The investigation into Josh Powell ended when he killed himself and the couple’s two sons by blowing his Washington state house up. Since then, authorities have had few clues into the search for Susan Powell.

The latest tip about the rural Oregon farm came from someone who called Susan’s father, Chuck Cox, and stated that Josh Powell’s aunt and uncle once lived on a 180 acre farm in a remote area of the state. They were sympathetic to Powell, according to the tipster, who suggested they may have hidden Susan’s body there.

Police responded to the tip and have spent three days searching for clues linking the area to Susan Powell. Despite turning up nothing useful so far, police stated on Thursday that they were continuing the search and interviewing neighbors in the area. Josh Powell’s relatives have since left the farm.

Wayne Pyle, the city manager for West Valley City, Utah, where the Powells once lived, stated of the search on Thursday, ”The leads have become fewer and farther between. If nothing comes from it, we do feel like we are close to the end of the investigation.”  The lack of evidence found was disheartening for Susan Powell’s father, who accompanied some of the search dogs on the hunt. He commented, “I’m disappointed. I just don’t know where she is, but we’ll keep looking for her.”

While her husband was never charged in Susan Powell’s disappearance, unsealed documents say authorities found the missing woman’s blood on a floor next to a sofa. It appeared to have been cleaned recently, with two fans set up to blow on it. Investigators also discovered life insurance policies on Susan and found that Josh filed paperwork to take money from her retirement account about 10 days after she disappeared.

Despite not finding much during the latest search for Susan Powell’s remains, Cox stated that he appreciates the amount of time investigators have spent on her case, adding that it showed dedication and determination to find Powell.

A pizza man / cocaine delivery guy was arrested this week in New York after selling more than $45,000 worth of coke to undercover police officers.

Officers say that Ramon Rodriguez, 45, used his pizza route as a cover to deliver cocaine. The Papa John’s pizza man made at least 19 cocaine deliveries around New York to undercover officers since 2011.

His final pizza sale /cocaine drop occurred last Wednesday when he sold an undercover cop a kilo of cocaine.

Pix11 reports that the undercover agent met Rodriguez outside of a Papa John’s on 5th avenue on Wednesday night. Rodriguez went inside to get a pizza, some chicken nuggets, and a bag full of cocaine. Rodriguez was arrested when he placed the bag in the officer’s car.

It’s unclear if the officer was expected to give the pizza man a tip for his drug delivery.

Officers said that Rodriguez admitted to using his pizza route as a cover. The man allegedly made stops throughout his day to deliver cocaine, pizza, and chicken wings.

Rodriguez was charged with the criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Internet celebrity “Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker” has been arrested in Philadelphia on suspicion of the murder of an elderly New Jersey man.

Authorities had issued an arrest warrant for Kai, real name Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, in connection with the homicide of Joseph Galfy, Jr., a lawyer from Clark, N.J. in Union County.

Police located Kai at a Philadelphia Center City bus station earlier today. He had been last seen at a PATCO light rail station near Haddonfield, New Jersey, and had allegedly cut his hair to conceal his real identity.

Galfy, 73, was found dead at his Union County home on Monday after police were called to check on his well being. An autopsy performed on Tuesday determined that he died as a result of blunt force trauma Sunday night, and Kai reportedly is the prime suspect. “The two met in Times Square Saturday and returned to Galfy’s Clark, NJ, home where McGillvary spent the night, said [Union County] prosecutor Theodore Romankow.” A Facebook posting by Kai apparently suggested that he had been drugged and raped at the home.

Kai (who also goes by Kai Lawrence) will be extradited to New Jersey within the next couple of days. He’s being held on $3 million bail.

Kai the “surfer dude” rose to fame earlier this year when he used his hatchet to stop a “crazed” man who had attacked a black utility worker and then allegedly threatened two women in Fresno, California. The women credited Kai with saving their lives.

At the time of his internet fame following the Fresno incident, which included a “smash, smash, smash” video remix of his media interviews, Kai referred to himself as “homefree” rather than homeless.

Retired NASCAR driver Dick Trickle died on Thursday of an apparent suicide. The 71-year-old allegedly called 911 and told the operator “there would be a dead body and it would be his.”

The operator attempted to call him back, but nobody answered. Trickle’s body was discovered near his pickup truck at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boger City, North Carolina.

Tim Johnson, a Lieutenant Detective with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, stated that foul play is not suspected. He added that a note was found by Dick Trickle’s body. Further information, such as the contents of the note, will not be disclosed. Johnson explained:

“We’re trying to protect the family as much as possible, and they had just gotten notified right after it happened. We’re trying to respect their privacy.”

NASCAR released a statement about Trickle’s apparent suicide, saying that its thoughts and prayers are with the former stock car driver’s family. The statement added:

“Dick was a legend in the short-track community, particularly in his home state of Wisconsin, and he was a true fan favorite. Personalities like Dick Trickle helped shape our sport. He will be missed.”

Current and former NASCAR drivers took to social media following the news of Dick Trickle’s death. Rusty Wallace, who was mentored by Trickle, stated:

“I’m in 100 percent shock. Dick Trickle was my mentor. When I was short track racing, I would call him every Monday morning and he would always help me with race setups and stuff. He and I had such a good time telling stories …”

Other NASCAR drivers joined in mourning Dick Trickle’s death, saying on Twitter:

Michele Bachmann may have crashed and burned in her bid to win the GOP nomination last year, but the Minnesota congresswoman isn’t quite ready to leave the national spotlight.

Though she is still battling allegations of election finance fraud and allegations that her campaign tried to bribe a GOP official in Iowa, Bachmann is trying to keep her status as the leader of the GOP charge against Barack Obama.

This week Michele Bachmann sponsored a bill that would repeal ObamaCare. She also provided a forum for tea party groups to air grievances against the Internal Revenue Service, which was found to have added undue scrutiny to these conservative organizations.

The scandal that erupted after the IRS allegations came to light is right in the political sweet spot for Bachmann, a tea party darling and leader of the House Tea Party Caucus.

Despite near-constant scorn from the left, Bachmann has handled the opposition deftly and been able to maintain her important part in the GOP.

“History is filled with stories of political comebacks and she will have that opportunity — and she has the capability to rehab her image and change the focus to her work instead of these other issues,” said Keith Appell, a GOP consultant. “Given how this issue of the IRS‘ persecution of the tea party is mushrooming, an opportunity is emerging for her — if she plays it right — to be relevant again. The IRS scandal will fuel tea party participation in the 2014 elections, so if she can get out from underneath these other issues she could play a significant role next year and potentially benefit from a tea party conservative victory.”

Democrats are also happy that Michele Bachmann is remaining on the national stage. Jim Manley, a Democratic strategist, said her views are “so far out of the mainstream” that it can only help Democrats by comparison.

The ongoing investigation into Bachmann’s campaign also casts a pall over a potential comeback. And in addition, congressional ethics investigators are also examining whether Michele Bachmann campaign staffers played an improper role in her 2011 book tour promoting her memoir, Core of Conviction.
