A medical helicopter crashed in a school parking lot in eastern Kentucky. All three crew members were killed.
According to Yahoo News, the helicopter crash occurred late last night at Paces Creek Elementary School. Witness said that the Bell 206 LoneRanger was flying in “dense fog” but officials have not named the exact cause of the accident.
The Air Evac Lifeteam said in a statement: “We are saddened to confirm that three members of our Manchester, Ky., crew were killed in a helicopter accident late Thursday evening. We are devastated at the loss of these crew members who we consider family. We have no details regarding the cause of the accident but will be working with the NTSB in coming days as they conduct their investigation. We thank you all for your messages of support. Please keep these crew members family/friends and the AEL Family in your thoughts and prayers.”
The company identified the three people killed in the crash as pilot Eddie Sizemore, flight paramedic Herman Dobbs and flight nurse Jesse Jones. WKYT Lexington reports that the helicopter was on its way back to the base in Manchester after successfully transporting a patient to a hospital in London, Kentucky.
Company spokeswoman Julie Heavrin said that the Bell 206 LoneRanger involved in the crash was “completely refurbished” in May of 2012. The last time the Air Eva Lifeteam experienced a fatal crash was back in 2010.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will soon start an investigation into the crash.
Republicans in the US House of Representatives successfully voted to strip the DREAM Act of a key amendment Thursday, garnering a hail of boos from House Democrats.
The controversial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an Obama lead initiative which allows for a relaxed deportation policy for individuals brought into the United States illegally as children, was at the center of the vote.
The program allows people currently aged 30 and under, who were brought to the US illegally at age 16 or younger, to defer mandatory deportation for two years. This exception is only allowed given the individual is proven to be no security threat and has either been successful as a student or has served in the military.
Thursday an amendment, which defunds this program, was introduced by House Republican Steve King of Iowa and passed with a vote of 224 to 201. All but six Republicans were reported to have voted in favor of the measure.
Rep. Steve King has developed a reputation as a hardliner against attempts at relaxing immigration laws. He was reported saying of the Thursday amendment:
“My amendment blocks many of the provisions that are mirrored in the Senate’s ‘Gang of Eight’ bill. If this position holds, no amnesty will reach the President’s desk.”
This controversial move comes on the heels of an on going battle in Washington over immigration reform. Partisan divisions and disagreement continue to surround reform attempts in Congress.
With an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the US, President Obama and many Democrats have made it clear that this is an issue near the fore of their agenda.
Republicans in the House may have a short lived victory, however. As the bill moves to the Senate, Democrats are confident that their majority will be able to keep it from becoming law.
Below you can see video of Republicans being booed in the House of Representatives Thursday after successfully pushing through Rep. King’s amendment:
Heidi Klum is ready to move past her judging days on Project Runway, but isn’t moving too far in the reality television world.
The supermodel and fashion icon made her debut on the revamped judges’ panel on season 8 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, albeit to tepid reviews.
The departure of longtime judge Sharon Osbourne after a dispute with NBC led the way for Heidi Klum to join the show along with former Spice Girl Mel B.
The join returning judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel, but the opening episode of America’s Got Talent came with mixed reviews.
“In Tuesday’s two-hour premiere, this new group seemed diluted – more like a conscientious committee,” People magazine noted. “The circus craziness was diminished, despite acts that included a snake trainer who blew up a balloon and then goaded a rattlesnake into popping the balloon with its fangs.
“A talent show ideally requires a show-bizzy, even cheesy energy and personality so vivid it doesn’t matter if it also happens to be vulgar – this goes for not just the contestants, but for the judges. Klum does not bring that to the table.”
Heidi Klum isn’t the only one looking for a fresh start on America’s Got Talent. Mel B is joining the show after a contract dispute kept her from a commitment to appear on Australia’s Got Talent.
Mel has already appeared on on The X Factor in the UK and Australia, but a breach of contract between two Australian television networks kept her from appearing on Australia’s Got Talent.
When she got the chance for a stint on America’s Got Talent, Mel B jumped at the chance.
“I got the phone call and got offered the job and was like, ‘Yeah!’ I love this show, and of course the fact that it’s now in New York at Radio City Music Hall — that’s a legendary place that makes the show even more exciting,” she told Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a great family show, and people love watching it. I’ve watched for many years; I sit down with my kids and watch it. It’s nice to be a part of it.”
Mel B and Heidi Klum can be seen on America’s Got Talent on Thursday nights on Fox.
A low-budget indie flick with an interesting premise called The Purge is expected to sail past its competition at the box office this weekend and become something of a sleeper hit.
Though this weekend’s expected front-runner is the Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson film The Internship, experts are actually predicting that The Purge will win our wallets and earn double the opening weekend numbers of the Google comedy.
The Purge is described as a low-budget horror/thriller film, with early plaudits focusing on its interesting premise.
It stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey in a futuristic America where crime and unemployment are at all-time lows. The catch is that one night a year, all crime is legal, allowing Americans to “purge” their angry and violent feelings without repercussion.
That’s the backdrop. The plot follows Hawke’s attempts to keep his home and family from falling victim to a group of home invaders after a seeming act of compassion puts them all in danger.
Box Office Guru has been watching the progress of The Purge, noting its $3 million Thursday night opening.
The Los Angeles Times reports that The Internshipwill likely bow to The Purge, predicting a weekend gross between $12 million and $15 million for the comedy. The Purge is on track to double that.
Deadline notes that The Internshipis even falling short of Now You See Me in online ticket sales.
Vaughn and Wilson’s last comedy together, 2005′s Wedding Crashers, earned $209 million in North America.
#ThePurge makes fantastic $3.4M THU night 10p on. More than AfterEarth & NowYouSeeMe last THU combined. Big #1 wknd ahead.
But we’ll let you decide. Below are the trailers for both The Purge and The Internship. Which one will you see this weekend? Also, check out our review of The Purge by Niki Cruz here.
Country singer and The Voice coach, Blake Shelton has seen a big spike in sales after his Oklahoma tornado relief concert on May 29 titled Healing in the Heartland. The event was broadcast live on NBC and it raised more than $6 million according to estimates.
The sales for his new album Based on a True Story have increased 69% for total sales of 42,000 copies and it tops Billboard’s Top Country Albums.
The website reports that:
“That’s the album’s best rank on the big chart since it spent the third of three straight weeks at No. 4 on the May 4 tally. It debuted at No. 1 on Top Country Albums and at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (charts dated April 13) with 199,000 and has sold 588,000 to date.”
His album’s second single Boys’Round Here makes it to No. 2 on Country Digital Songs with 147,000 downloads which translates into a spike of 36% from previous weeks.
As reported in The Inquisitr earlier today, the singer is currently getting ready for his tour which kicks off on July 19 in Virginia Beach. In a recent interview with MTV News Shelton said he has worked very hard for many years and is enjoying where he is at now. He added that he cannot wait to get on the road.
“I’m going out on my first-ever headlining amphitheater tour, and I’m never going to forget it.”
Shelton has been very visible with his role on NBC’s The Voice, in which each coach selects a team of artists who have to blind audition to earn a spot. The reality TV show also features Adam Levine, Shakira, and Usher. Shelton’s team member Jermaine Paul won last season of The Voice for his coach.
Blake is working very hard to make sure his summer tour is the best it can be and fans can expect a great time. He will also be raising funds for charity to support the tornado victims.
The proceeds from his efforts will be donated to Healing in the Heartland a non-profit organization which is helping victims of last month’s deadly Oklahoma tornadoes.
Richard Ramirez has died at the age of 53 at Marin General Hospital, where he was escorted from death row at the San Quentin State Prison, according to a state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation official. The “Night Stalker” died early Friday in the hospital of natural causes, though no other details have been released.
San Quentin State Prison spokesman Lt. Sam Robinson told The Associated Press that Ramirez “passed away this morning,” but he didn’t go any further into discussion about the convicted serial killers’ death.
Ramirez was convicted and given the death sentence for 13 murders that took place between 1984 and 1985 in Southern California. He broke into unlocked homes through windows and doors and even forced victims to “swear to Satan.”
There were satanic symbols left at the scenes of the crimes, and he was eventually brought down after he was captured and beaten by local residents of an East Los Angeles neighborhood while making an attempt at a carjacking.
The horrifying events left Californians in shock for many years and some are still affected today. Richard Ramirez has now died after waiting for his execution at San Quentin State Prison.
The “Night Stalker” earned his horrific name through the killings, and he was eventually found guilty of the charges in September of 1989 before being sentenced to death through the gas chamber in November of the same year.
He’s execution never came, and he’s now passed away at the age of 53. Before being convicted, his mugshots were released which led to nearly every major newspaper at the time posting the photos on front pages for everyone to see.
It was on the very next day that Ramirez was nearly beaten to death by locals in Los Angeles during his attempted carjacking, which came to an end once police officers broke up the scuffle before he was killed.
Here is a mugshot of Ramirez taken in 2007.
All of California and Americans across the nation were relieved to see him captured, and he called San Quentin his home ever since. Now Richard Ramirez has died at the Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif.
It seems like problems surrounding The Canyons happened as soon as the film attached Lindsay Lohan to be its lead star. Tons of gossip stories have been written about the ongoings from pre-production to post-production, notably one op-ed titled Here’s What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan In Your Movie was a real account that focused on the inner workings of The Canyons, and what it took to get Lindsay Lohan to work everyday.
For a shoot that only lasted about a month, it seems strange, but once the Lindsay Lohan equation worked its way in there it made sense. At the time Lohan wasn’t insurable as an actress, but despite that, and despite the reports on her reckless behavior Paul Schrader took a chance on her.
What resulted was massive attention from start to finish by numerous outlets, and the constant questioning of Lohan’s well being. Now we have stills from the film starring Lindsay Lohan and her co-star/porn star James Deen, to prove that this film is actually going to see the light of day.
The Canyons is a collaborative film between director Schrader, and writer Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho), and was completely funded by the filmmakers, with a tiny aid from Kickstarter. The Canyons tells a story about a group of 20-somethings, in a contemporary Los Angeles scene in the “post-Empire” era.
For Lohan this role fit like a glove, and was also her big return to acting since her legal troubles. However, because of problems on the set, including Lohan showing up late, crying in her hotel room, and the odd relationship between her and reluctant co-star James Deen, it seemed as though the buzz ended up overshadowing a film that was trying to capture something that they were also trying to get away from.
Director Paul Shrader was of course aware of all of this, and in an interview admitted to even giving into the monster saying:
“To be honest, it’s something we created. We stirred the pot, simply with the casting of Lindsay and James. And Lindsay brings with her, her drama and then Bret, he has a very promiscuous Twitter finger, and he can always relied on to upset somebody with some tweet. We kind of stirred our town pot.”
The Canyons is set to open on August 2, and is available on the same day on VOD and iTunes. As far as catching it in the theaters, it will expand on August 9, including a special screening at UCLA.
News anchor Brian Williams performed Warren G’s Regulate in the latest of Jimmy Fallon’s mash-up videos featuring the NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor.
The clip was broadcast during Thursday night’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show. On Wednesday night, Fallon featured Williams performing Nuthin’ But a G Thang by Dr. Dre, in a similar mash-up video.
It isn’t clear why Fallon is focusing on Brian Williams. However, the pairing of Williams’ ever serious expression with the over-the-top lyrics is priceless. The mash-up style video takes clips and sounds from different sources, combining them together to form an often humorous end product.
Fallon’s videos feature background music from the original songs, combined with words and phrases spoken by Williams. The carefully chosen clips are edited into the correct order and combined with the soundtrack. The final videos feature Brian Williams performing Regulate and Nuthin’ But a G Thang.
Williams is one of the most recognized faces in broadcast news. His broadcasting career began in 1981, and he joined NBC in 1993. He has been the anchor and editor of NBC Nightly News since 2004. As reported by NBC, Williams has “the most-watched newscast in all of television and has become the most highly decorated evening news anchor of the modern era.” He has received 12 Emmy Awards.
Williams often reports very serious news and rarely breaks form. His serious demeanor only adds to the humor in the mash-up videos. While Williams seems to be all business, he does have a great sense of humor.
As discussed by Hollywood Reporter, Williams made a surprise appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show and took part in a musical number about sequestration. Williams’ part in the slow jam largely focused on reading clips from the news. However, toward the end the band breaks form and plays Push It by Salt-n-Pepa, prompting Williams to exclaim “push it real good,” before continuing with the news clips.
Now that Brian Williams has performed Regulate, one can only wonder what Jimmy Fallon will come up with next.
Think of Kid Rock and the name Justin Bieber doesn’t naturally spring to mind.
But, the rap-rock cowboy and fourth annual “Chillin’ The Most Cruise” bossman recently took time out of his redneck-activity-filled day to share his thoughts on the Canadian’s not quite immediate future.
Speaking to GQ Magazine, the Rebel Soul star’s view on Bieber’s next likely steps was somewhat ominous.
“It’s just a matter of time before someone puts a huge line of cocaine in front of Bieber,” the 42-year-old said. “And he’s going to be like, ‘Yes! This is (bleeping) awesome!’”
For those concerned about the 19-year-old’s fast-paced lifestyle (as opposed to those simply circling), Rock’s opinion isn’t so easily dismissed.
That’s not to say Bieber’s descent into ‘Devil’s powder’ hell is inevitable, rather that numerous celebrities are on record as saying drugs were either offered to them, or that it was their own choice to take them and how accessible they were.
Last year, just before he turned 18, Bieber told V Magazine:
“I’m not going to try to conform to what people want me to be or go out there and start partying, have people see me with alcohol. I want to do it at my own pace. I don’t want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing.”
Later adding: ”Now that I’m on top, everyone wants to bring me down.”
Fast forward to January 2013 when pictures surfaced of Bieber with rappers Lil Twist and Lil Za in a Newport Beach, California hotel smoking what appeared to be a joint, and the half a year of actual and alleged incidents both on and off his Believe tour that followed; the prognosis for what the teen star does next seems grim.
The bright-eyed kid who burst onto the world stage in 2009 is more often than not now pictured looking out at a scrum of flashbulbs with a haunted look in his eyes. Although that may be down to his clear antipathy toward paparazzi and, of late, the press, it is noticeable.
Rock’s comments may have been blunt but they echo recent comments made by Channing Tatum and others.
The Magic Mike star toldVanity Fair: “I worry about Bieber, man. That kid’s wildly talented. I hope he doesn’t fall down into the usual ways of young kids because it’s so hard for someone to be responsible when they’re not asked to be.”
But perhaps writing off Bieber’s future as a cocaine-fueled party animal is hasty. Celebrities such as will.i.am, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, director Jon M. Chu, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, Michael Buble, and manager Scooter Braun note the teen’s commitment to giving back, close family ties, and a behind-the-scenes level-headedness in the face of relentless scrutiny and often overblown criticism.
Over at Pop Dust, Nate Jones insightfully observed that Bieber’s public chafing at widespread talk of his “imminent” fall from pop grace should more accurately be termed a meta-meltdown. In other words, simply a reaction to the fact that people are saying he’s having a meltdown.
Although this past week, Bieber received heat after his leather-clad appearance at Miami’s Heat-Pacers game, amid reports of alleged paparazzi clashes and yet more mutterings of alleged mutiny in his Calabasas neighborhood — there has been also light with the shade.
The teen singer unveiled artwork for his new, upcoming single “Heartbreaker,” punched a new record as the first person to hit 40 million followers on Twitter, confirmed the news that he and Braun have signed up to Virgin Galactic’s spaceflights and his idea to make a music video in space, was formally congratulated for ”Baby’s” (streaming enhanced) status as the highest certified single in history, revealed additional Believe tour dates for Asia, New Zealand, South America and Australia, and will shortly be returning to the studio.
Despite Kid Rock’s prediction and all the concerns and public lamentations, it seems, for Bieber, safe harbor is found when it’s “all about the music.”
Go Daddy nerd Jesse Heiman created a very awkward situation when he forced Twilight star Nikki Reed to kiss him outside of a Los Angeles nightclub.
Heiman, who rocketed to fame after kissing Bar Refaeli in a Superbowl commercial, approached the actress as she was leaving Bootsy Bellows with her husband on Tuesday evening.
As they were exiting the club, the Go Daddy nerd darted for Reed in an effort to give her a kiss. Reed clearly didn’t want to participate in the exchange and attempted to pull away from Heiman.
Although the Twilight star tried to escape the Go Daddy nerd’s grasp, he grabbed her arm and pulled her in for the smooch. The entire exchange is as uncomfortable as you can possible get.
“You’re holding me,” Reed said as she tried to free herself. “My husband’s right there.”
This didn’t seem to matter to Heiman; he managed to land the kiss before Nikki Reed could get away.
Not surprisingly, the entire incident hasn’t settled well with the folks at Go Daddy. Since his behavior reflects negatively on the company, Heiman has been asked to apologize for his bizarre behavior.
To make matters worse for the actor, he has also been forced to cancel his scheduled appearances for Go Daddy. His future with the company is currently up in the air for the time being.
The unwanted kiss from Jesse Heiman was captured by the folks at TMZ. Not surprisingly, the awkward exchange has quickly made the rounds online. If you’re curious to see what happened, take a peek at the video below. Warning: It’s seriously uncomfortable.
Although his name may not be familiar to you, Heiman has actually been in over 50 movies and television programs. Several years ago he was labeled as the world’s greatest extra.
What do you think about the Go Daddy nerd forcibly kissing actress Nikki Reed? Do you think he should be fired from the company for his behavior?
A 911 dispatcher laughed after hearing about a fatal stabbing in Brooklyn. And to make matters worse, she found the situation so hilarious that she passed on erroneous information to police officers.
According to the NY Post, therapist Noam Koenigsberg called 911 on May 30 to alert authorities about a possible murder. Koenigsberg told police that one of his patients, Ronald Friedfertig, may have stabbed a woman to death at her apartment.
Koenigsberg told the dispatcher that Friedfertig had a dream that he had stabbed the woman to death. Koenigsberg tried to find out if the victim, Yvonne Geffner, was still alive but couldn’t get in contact with her.
The anonymous 911 dispatcher thought that this entire story was hilarious.
The woman told police: “This man said that he had a dream that … I can’t even talk right now.”
The woman tries to relays Koenigsberg story to police but she can’t stop from laughing and gets several details wrong. The dispatcher mixed up the victim and the suspect and said that the call came from a man who was hospitalized and wanted to have his house check.
As a result of the phony information police merely knocked on the door of the woman’s house. When no one answered, they concluded that there had been no crime. The Huffington Post reports that it wasn’t until four days later that they found Geffner’s body after neighbors reported a foul smell coming from her apartment.
Officers have arrested Friedfertig but it will be a few days before they can charge him with murder. The man threw himself in front of a train sometime between the 911 call and the time officers found Geffner’s body. He is currently recovering at Kings County Hospital Center.
It’s unclear what punishment the 911 dispatcher faces but authorities said that they are investigating the incident.
We know that Kanye West has a cameo in the upcoming comedy Anchorman 2, but given his tendency for diva-esque behavior, we can’t help but wonder how everyone else in the film reacted to his time on the set.
Turns out, West was pretty normal.
“He was great, and he was funny. He came up with a couple good lines on his own,” director Adam McKay told MTV News. ”We did our usual style of do the written line, and then I would throw out alternate lines and we’d improvise. He was completely cool and game.”
West filmed his brief cameo back in May, with many media publications picking up on photos of the rapper wearing an afro wig and carrying a hockey stick on the Anchorman 2 set in Atlanta.
He will appear in the news team brawl sequence, which sounds like it will be similar to the cameo-themed melee from the first film.
“He even showed up for an extra quarter of a day where he had no speaking lines,” McKay continued. ”He was just kind of in the group fight sequence, and he was having so much fun that he came back to do that.”
Entertainer Drake was also spotted on the Anchorman 2 set last month, and filmed a cameo in New York. The film sees all of Anchorman‘s original cast returning, as well as a number of celebrity cameos. Among the cast are: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Kristen Wiig, Christina Applegate, Harrison Ford, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
While keeping certain film roles and cameos under wraps is next to impossible these days, McKay tries to look on the bright side of a spoiled surprise.
“It’s a good thing that people care that much,” he said. “No one was hiding in the bushes when we were shooting Talladega Nights to see if Sacha Baron Cohen was on set. That wasn’t happening at all, so it’s a very good sign that people are that excited.”
Are you looking forward to Anchorman 2? You can check out an image of Kanye West on the set here.
The Apple iPhone is bad for businesses and the current trend towards bring your own device (BYOD) policies being enacted around the country is troubling according to a mobile pioneer.
The new policies allow employees to choose which devices they want to use on the job. In many cases IT departments are supporting iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry OS’ all at the same time.
Mobile industry pioneer and Sepharim Group founder Bob Egan is speaking out against the BYOD culture and the unnecessary complications and expenses it brings to many businesses.
“BYOD falls between two opposing needs: the freedom of the employee to use their devices for business and personal purposes without the fear of having their privacy invaded and the importance of an organization’s need to audit mobile data to further productivity and optimize their mobile work program. However, in this first wave of mobile ubiquity in the enterprise, we’re finding ourselves ruled by the will of the individual. Employees prefer to choose their own devices based on personal preference rather than the overall needs of the company — and much of this has been caused by the wild popularity of the iPhone.”
The creator of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN standard goes on to note:
“Mobile workforces have exploded with Apple devices; they’re cute, they have a lot of applications … While many companies are drawn in by the ‘eye-candy,’ others are still looking for more serious enterprise solutions — which isn’t Apple.”
Egan further reveals that Apple iOS devices are still lagging behind other OS’ when it comes to gathering important data which is needed to design better mobile applications for businesses.
Egan concludes:
“While Apple devices make inputing information easy, getting information back is a lot harder especially when you begin to consider information audit trails and regulatory compliance matters.”
SolePower shoe is a device that charges your phone while you walk – a possible lifesaver if your phone is about to die and you still have a few blocks before you reach your destination.
The device itself is an insole that fits into your shoe, capable of charging portable devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, and GPS units. An electrical wire runs from the SolePower insole, via your shoe and out through the laces. This wire connects to a portable battery that can be strapped to the side of the shoe, or around your ankle.
Just by walking around, the insole converts the energy from each of your steps into usable electricity, which is transferred to the portable battery. This can then be plugged into a device such as your cell phone – allowing you to make that all important call. Clearly a much better solution than finding an electrical outlet and sitting beside it for 10-20 minutes while your phone charges.
Right now, the sole prototype is rated to last 100 million steps. The ultimate aim SolePower is to develop a shoe that charges your iPhone while you walk – 2.5 miles for a full charge to be precise.
The startup began as a design project at Carnegie Mellon University and the team is now continuing development through Pittsburgh-based incubator called AlphaLab. The startup also hopes to mimic the success of TOMS Shoes’ buy-one-send-one offering by allowing customers to buy two pairs and send one to a developing nation.
SolePower is also using Kickstarter to try and raise $50,000 of funding, money that would allow further development of their prototype and help finalize the shoe. A limited number of backers who pledge at least $100 can be among the first to get the SolePower insole.
A shoe that chargers your phone while you walk could be a lifesaver, would you buy one of SolePower’s products?
A Steubenville FBI raid against a hacker who exposed two rape suspects is causing a backlash as supports rally around the man.
Deric Lostutter is a 26-year-old hacktivist who worked in an Anonymous operation to expose the Steubenville High School football players accused of rape, but Lostutter found himself the subject of an investigation instead. FBI agents raided his home in connection to the Steubenville leaks, and Lostutter may now face more time in jail than the rapists themselves.
Lostutter had been connected to a subset of the hacker group Anonymous known as KYAnonymous. He heard about the case in Steubenville, where two members of the popular high school football team raped a 16-year-old girl at a party where many other members of the team witnessed the attack and shared videos and accounts via social media.
Lostutter later received a Twitter message from a friend who knew a journalist covering the Steubenville rape case. The friend gave Lostutter tweets and Instagram photos from the players there that night, which he decided to publicize.
“I was always raised to stick up for people who are getting bullied,” he said.
The materials he leaked ended up being crucial pieces of evidence in the case against the two rapists, who were convicted in March. But now Lostutter could face up to 10 years in prison.
According to the warrant obtained by Gawker, in the Steubenville raid FBI agents were looking for evidence related to the hacking of Rollredroll.com, the website of a Steubenville High School booster club that had been defaced. Another hacker has claimed responsibility, and Lostutter says he had nothing to do with it.
The Steubenville FBI raid has drawn criticism online, with many believing that Lostutter is being unfairly targeted. Jason Flores-Williams, part of the Whistleblower’s Defense League which is representing Lostutter, said he hopes the FBI drops the case.
“We certainly hope the United States comes to its senses and decides not to indict, and if they do we will aggressively litigate the incident,” said Flores-Williams. “What’s unique here to me is that it’s not a national security issue. This isn’t at the forefront at the NSA or the CIA. This comes out of the heartland of the country, and this is a person who is just trying to do what is right for the heartland.”
Lostutter appears to be welcoming the help. He tweeted about the Steubenville FBI raid, saying that the story is set to “implode the internet.”
Avril Lavigne fueled rumors that she is pregnant when the rocker showed up in London sporting what appeared to be a visible baby bump.
The singer, who is engaged to Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger, was photographed with her hands over her stomach as she left the restaurant Nobu.
There wasn’t any word from Avril Lavigne on the pregnancy rumor, but the Canadian singer has opened up about her fashion. Last month she talked about how Marilyn Manson convinced her to shave her head bald.
“I had wanted to shave the side of my head for quite some time and I used to put it in a braid [at the side of my head] and so it was kind of like shaving it,” Lavigne said.
She added, “It was on my adventure to France. During my adventure, when I was living there, we were hanging out backstage and we were with his band having a few drinks and I was like, ‘Let’s shave my head. I’m ready; let’s do this!’”
Avril Lavigne is working on a new song with Marilyn Manson called “Bad Girl.” It will be featured on her upcoming album, due out in September.
Avril said the decision to team up with Manson was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.
“It was last minute. I was sitting there at the board thinking Manson would be perfect on this track, so I texted him and he’s like, ‘I’ll come over and hear it.’ So he came at four o’clock in the morning… Yes, it was one of those nights.”
Rumors of Lavigne’s possible pregnancy have spread on Twitter since her “baby bump” photograph. But she has been known to throw off photographers before, once appearing in public with a fake baby belly for a television show.
There is also some disagreement on whether Avril Lavigne is really pregnant. As The Huffington Post speculated, Avril’s “baby bump” could have something to do with the meal she had just eaten.
Covina, CA — A child porn sting in California got a popular middle school teacher arrested. The teacher, John David Boyle, was arrested after he met with an undercover agent under the guise of watching child pornography together.
Boyle, 49, allegedly spoke with the agent online, who he believed shared a sexual interest in young boys with him, according to Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for a US Attorney in California.
Mrozek added that the middle school teacher set up an in-person meeting with the undercover agent in his classroom last weekend. He added that Boyle believed “the purpose of the meeting was to engage in sexual activity while watching child pornography together.”
But the meeting did not go as the teacher planned. The undercover agent met Boyle in his classroom, where he offered the teacher child pornography. When Boyle took possession of the material, other agents entered the room to confront of him.
While Boyle was not initially arrested, he gave investigators permission to take over several social media and email accounts, including one that was allegedly used to distribute child pornography. Boyle’s Skype account also apparently had evidence that the teacher had sexual contact with minors.
Authorities arrested the Royal Oak Middle School teacher on Tuesday. Mike Henricks, Superintendent of the Charter Oak School District, stated on Friday, “Fortunately so far we have had no indication to believe that any of our students have been victimized.”
A US attorney’s office on Friday stated that videos depicting child pornography were found on the suspect’s computer. Boyle was arrested by special agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. If he is convicted, the middle school teacher could face a sentence of between five and 20 years in a federal prison.
The arrest of the teacher for child pornography was likely a shock to the student population. Boyle was a football coach at the school and also taught English. He was popular with students and was chosen to be the commencement speaker for the school’s graduation this year.
Disney can finally go ahead with plans to save a terminal from LA’s oldest airport – after 10 years of research and ongoing negotiations. Grand Central Air Terminal is what the company has had it’s heart set on for years, a building located North of Los Angeles in Glendale, California.
Serving as a monument to the city’s oldest commercial airport, which acted as the departure point for the country’s first regular coast-to-coast flight pilot by Charles Lindbergh. Opened in 1929, the building was a trailblazer when it came to architecture – featuring a blend of Art Deco and Spanish Colonial styles.
Despite now being one of LA’s oldest airport terminal buildings, the interior design was an early precursor to modern designs that utilise separate areas for ticketing, eating, and waiting. It even managed to attract a few celebrities in it’s prime – classic names such as Amelia Earhart, and Howard Hughes.
Sadly, the terminal was closed for commercial flights in 1944, with the rest of the Glendale airport following in the late 50s.
It wasn’t until the 90s that multi-faceted entertainment company entered into a development agreement with the City of Glendale, promising to rejuvenate the site by 2015. As part of their plans, Disney wants to demolish a nearby building – part of why it took so long to reach an agreement with city authorities.
Plans include restoring the exterior it’s original magnificence – which included clay roof tiles, and steel windows, as well as stone and stucco ornamentation. The interior will be retrofitted with offices for Disney employees and also contain a visitor center that makes use of media walls to educate guests about the airport’s history.
This year’s Belmont Stakes will likely be wet, thanks to Tropical Storm Andrea, which is working its way up the East Coast. But despite the sloppy track, the race is sure to be exciting.
Despite there being no Triple Crown on the line, 14 horses will vie for the lead around the track on Saturday afternoon. The winners of the first two legs, Orb and Oxbow, could pull off the win. But the other 12 horses shouldn’t be counted out.
Rain pelted the historic race track all day on Friday and isn’t supposed to let up until around 4 am local time on Saturday. New York racing officials predicted up to three and a half inches of rain could accumulate.
Despite sunny skies and higher temperatures on Saturday, there is no guarantee the track will be quickly transformed into a fast and firm surface. That forecast will likely move the odds in favor of horses who perform well on a wet track. They include Orb, Oxbow, Freedom Child, and filly Unlimited Budget.
Orb, who won the Kentucky Derby last month, has already proven his strength on a sloppy track as jockey Joel Rosario steered him easily down the stretch of a very wet Churchill Downs racetrack. Shug McGaughey, Orb’s trainer, added, “This is his home track, and he’s shown he can handle off going. He’s ready.”
But despite the Derby winner’s 3-1 odds, other horses could still pull off an upset. While Oxbow, a proven frontrunner, led the Preakness from start to finish, is expected to be out of the gate quickly, Freedom Child, with 8-1 odds, will likely launch out of the gate just as fast.
Tom Albertrani, Freedom Child’s trainer, stated that he will not change his strategy for the coveted Belmont Stakes. Luis Saez will steer the colt clear of the gate as fast as possible to get in the clear before the first turn. Albertrani added:
“Depending on the pace, as long as we’re in control early on, if he runs anything like he did in Peter Pan, I think he’ll do it on the front end. ”
Albertrani also stated he believes Orb will be the main competition. But Unlimited Budget shouldn’t be counted out. The filly also has 8-1 odds for the Belmont and appears to love a wet racetrack. She won easily in her debut last November on an off surface. Trainer Todd Pletcher revealed he’s more worried about her endurance than he is about her ability to run the track.
Pletcher, who guided filly Rags to Riches to a Belmont win in 2007, explained, “She’s not as stoutly bred as I’d like to see. That will be her test. But you can say the same for most of these.”
Who do you think will win Saturday’s Belmont Stakes?
Whether or not you’ve ever thought about what a lion burger would taste like, it seems people across the US are developing a taste for it. This has raised concerns amongst experts who want to know where the meat has been coming from and what kind of impact it could have on wild lions.
Every now and again, lion burgers sourced from captive-populations crop up in restaurants around the country. These sightings provoke one of two responses – outrange and curiosity.
One of the first lion meat cases emerged in 2010, when an Arizona restaurant served the big cat burgers in honour of the South African football World Cup. More recently, it has made an appearance in tacos from Florida, and meat skewers in California. Each time it has the same effect, some people react with anger and disbelief, while other flock to the restaurants offering such a rare delicacy.
Illinois, is believed to be a trade hub where lions are sourced, slaughtered, and packaged. One state representative is even trying to introduce a ban on the lion meat, in an attempt to curb the trend.
Currently, the sale of lion burgers in the US in completely legal. As long as the animal it is derived from is not on an endangered species list, it’s fair game. This has led to some petitioning for the additions of lions to the list.
It’s worth noting that the meat doesn’t come from wild lions – not that this fact makes it acceptable. Instead, it is believed that due to the rise of exotic pet ownership, there are those who find they can no longer look after a growing lion. When that happens, it’s possible the big cats are sold on to facilities who harvest their meat.
If lion burgers in the US were to become an even bigger trend, how long do you think before restaurants start turning to wild populations?
