Hayden Panettiere showed off some of her (terrible) dance moves last night on the Graham Norton Show.

The Nashville star is currently in the UK promoting her show and stopped by the Graham Norton Show last night. The episode doesn’t air until next week but Panettiere tweeted a few photos from the set.

Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke played a few songs at the end of the show and Pharrell got Hayden to get up and do some dirty dancing.

Panettiere has been promoting Nashville all around the UK recently. Earlier this week she stopped by BBC Breakfast to talk about how she’s dealt with growing up a child star.

Panettiere, who started her acting age before she reached the ripe old age of 1-years-old, said: “I’m no different to anyone else and those same doors were opened to me and they were very easy to walk through—drugs, alcohol, being in inappropriate places where you shouldn’t be at a certain age—it’s a very tough position to be in, but I had great people to pull me back from it. Being a young female growing up in the industry is tough. I grew up in the generation of the wild child—I was guilty by association. So everyone sits there and waits for you to fall off your horse. But as long as you have people who are willing to tell you the truth and are not afraid to tell you the truth and give you a reality check—it makes a world of difference.”

Panettiere has said no temptation throughout her career but last night on the Graham Norton Show she couldn’t say no to Pharrell.

Hayden Panettiere Attempts To Dance On ‘The Graham Norton Show’ is a post from: The Inquisitr

An injection that prevents post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in mice could be the first step towards a way of preventing the condition in humans. The compound was originally meant as way to help treat drug and alcohol addiction but actually alleviated symptoms associated with PTSD.

A team from the University of Miami and one from Scripps Research Institute planned to develop compound that would trigger the receptors linked to opoid drugs, such as morphine and oxycodone. The compound – called SR-8993 – has no addictive effects, which is why it was thought to be a suitable treatment for addicts.

Instead of triggering the expected it receptors, it mainly trigger one which goes by the name of Oprl1 (opioid receptor-like1). This particular receptor is located in the amygdala, the part of the brain that handles fear responses.

This finding was used by another team to develop the injection that prevents post-traumatic stress disorder in mice. It became part of a study that involved traumatising mice by strapping them onto a wooden board so they couldn’t move.

Many of the mice showed inconsistencies in memory, anxiety and difficulty telling the difference between safe and dangerous situations – similar symptoms to human PSTD suffers. Brain activity was also related to the Oprl1 receptor, leading the two teams to collaborate.

The injection was administered before experiencing trauma or shortly after in different mouse – in all case, it prevent the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder from developing. Despite the same receptor being linked to pain, there were no obvious reductions in pain sensitivity.

It’s the pain however, which allowed the mice to learn from the experience and adapt accordingly – without developing any sign of PTSD.

A suspect buried alive was tied up and thrown into the grave of the woman he was suspected of raping and killing in Colquechaca, Bolivia.

The suspect buried alive during the funeral of the woman killed was tossed into the grave of 35-year-old murder victim Leandra Arias Janco as a crowd of 200 people mourned her death.

17-year-old Santos Ramos, the suspect buried alive by the villagers in the area, was named by police as a possible suspect in Janco’s killing, and the Huffington Post explains that residents joined ranks not only to prevent rescuers from reaching the teen, but also to keep the vigilante act quiet:

“Enraged, more than 200 community members seized Ramos and buried him alive alongside his alleged victim Wednesday night, according to Barrios. He said residents on Thursday blocked the road to the community, preventing police and prosecutors from reaching it … A local reporter for an indigenous radio station, who would only speak on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, told The AP that Ramos was tied up at the woman’s funeral. Mourners threw him into the open grave, placed the woman’s coffin in it and filled the grave with earth.”

Vigilante killings like the one in which the teen suspect buried alive met a grim fateT are not unusual in Quechua’s indigenous community of Tres Cruces. Just this week, villagers stoned a suspected thief to death before burning his alleged accomplice in the crime, killing the man.

England’s Daily Mail reports that incidents like the suspect buried alive have been so prevalent that the government has acknowledged the issue of “indigenous justice” in Bolivia:

“Evo Morales, the country’s first indigenous President, signed into law in 2009 a measure extending institutional recognition of ‘indigenous justice,’ but it’s difficult to define the boundaries between the indigenous and Western systems of justice.”

The reporter who broke the story of the suspect buried alive did not wish to be identified due to fear of reprisal.

A soy sauce overdose recently put a teenager in a coma.

College student John Paul Boldrick reportedly consumed an entire quart of the sauce on a dare back in 2011. What he didn’t know beforehand was that the stuff can be hazardous to your health in very high doses.

The excess amount of salt in the 19-year-old’s blood caused him to slip into a coma. According to doctors, the soy sauce overdose nearly cost Boldrick his life.

After consuming a quart of the sauce, the man reportedly began having seizures. Friends quickly took him to the emergency room, where he was given anti-seizure medication. He was later transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Doctors said he was already in a coma when he arrived.

The soy sauce overdose caused the kid to suffer from hypernatremia, which is when the blood contains a high concentration of sodium. This can cause water from the brain to fill the bloodstream in order to make everything balanced. As a result, the organ can shrink and bleed out.

The teenager was under the care of Dr. David J. Carlberg, who immediately began flushing the salt from the kid’s body by pumping in sugar water through a tube in his nose.

“He didn’t respond to any of the stimuli that we gave him. He had some clonus, which is just elevated reflexes. It’s a sign that basically the nervous system wasn’t working very well,” Dr. Carlberg explained.

He added, “We were more aggressive than had been reported before in terms of bringing his sodium back down to a safer range.”

Thanks to his team’s ability to flush out the salt in a timely manner, the teenager survived the coma and was soon on the mend. Although he experienced residual seizures, he was soon back in college and on with his life.

A pirate attack in the Gulf of Aden was foiled this week by European Union Naval Forces.

A group of Somali pirates briefly took 14 sailors hostage aboard a cargo vessel in the Gulf of Aden. The Marine Link reports that the cargo vessel, known as a dhow, is frequently targeted by pirates and is used as a “mother ship” once it is taken over. Thanks to the EU Naval Force warship HSwMS Carlskrona and NATO warship HNLMS van Speijk that didn’t happen.

The pirate attack was stopped and the crew was unharmed.

The master of the cargo vessel sent out a distress single early on Thursday morning saying that the ship was under attack by pirates. The EU ship, the NATO ship, and a Swedish helicopter quickly came to the scene to force the pirates off the ship.

Operation Commander of the EU Naval Force, Rear Admiral Bob Tarrant, said: “What is important is that fourteen Indian sailors are now safe and able to return to their families, after what must have been a terrifying ordeal.  This latest attack once again shows that the threat from piracy is real.  We must all remain vigilant.”

According to ABC, Somali pirates have not successfully hijacked a ship since May of 2012. There have been four pirate attacks this year but none of them have been successful.

Hayden Panettiere sat down with BBC Breakfast to talk about her life as a child star.

Now all grown up and playing a darker character on the show Nashville the former child star admits that growing up in Hollywood requires avoiding a lot of vices:

As expected that train of thought quickly turned to sympathy for other female child stars, specifically Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan. Hayden says of those fallen stars:

Panettiere adds:

“But as long as you have people who are willing to tell you the truth and are not afraid to tell you the truth and give you a reality check—it makes a world of difference.”

Hayden has managed to crawl out of the of child stars and become a respectable actress who has proven she can take on different types of roles.

Just because she didn’t get sucked into an endless cycle of booze and drugs doesn’t mean Hayden can’t throw down. She recently admitted that she can get rough with boxer boyfriend Vladamir Klitschko. According to Panettiere, “I throw him around.”

Socialite Paris Hilton recently said that she thinks reality TV is bad bad bad because it gives people an unhealthy obsession with celebrity. Paris Hilton of The Simple Life and My New BFF, just so we’re clear.

It’s not that we have anything personally against Paris Hilton, but her comments about reality TV have us raising an eyebrow or two since the form of media can easily be credited as a linchpin of her fame over the past decade.

That old adage “those in glass houses … ” comes to mind.

Still, regardless of the source, Hilton’s comments condemning today’s celebrity-focused culture and potential damage for young teenagers who desire and, in some cases, feel entitled to fame have an air of truth to them.

During press rounds for The Bling Ring, Hilton told Access Hollywood the following:

“I think these kids just wanted a piece of everyone’s life, and they felt the way to get it was by stealing it [referring to the plot of the film].

“So, it just shows what all the kids are focusing on, which is, yeah, reality television. I think it’s really scary the time girls are being raised in and what they think values are, and the fact that they thought they could just break into peoples’ houses and have their lives … It’s just scary that it’s become such a celebrity obsession.”

Earlier in May, Hilton made an attempt to distance herself from her public image and reality TV fame, insisting that she wants to take her career as a businesswoman seriously.

“I’m moving into the hotel businesses and it feels the natural next step,” she said. ”People have never got to know the real Paris Hilton. They remember me for falling out of nightclubs and messing around on a reality show. But that was just a character I was playing. You should see me in a business meeting.”

Though she hasn’t completely left the entertainment world behind, announcing recently that she is at work on a second album which will feature house music.

Fake shark attack warning signs are the latest weapon in a surfer’s failed battle to hog the waves. On Wednesday night, an unknown person posted as many as ten signs carrying the official logo of the California State Parks stating that there had been multiple shark sightings in the water off Pleasure Point near Santa Cruz.

A surfing forecast had said that the waves would be especially good for the next 48 hours.

However, the shark attack sign said that surfers should either stay out of the water for 48 hours or consider using a different beach five miles away. According to the posted notices, there were two reported sightings of great white sharks and one great white shark attack in the area.

Hmm.

On Thursday, California park authorities removed the signs and came forward to assure surfers that the warnings were bogus. The people who put up the fake shark attack signs haven’t been found.

However, both park officials and other surfers believe that the motive is pretty obvious — the unknown pranksters wanted the beach all to themselves.

A disgusted visitor told local news station KTVU:

“You know, it’s a pretty big ocean. I think there’s room for everyone. And with that I’m going to go put my wetsuit on.”

Others told KPIX that the hoax was dangerous, because it would teach other surfers to ignore the warnings. One surfer even said that he’d previously surfed with a shark by his side.

As surfers hurried to the beach to take advantage of the good waves, reporters asked if the people who posted the fake shark attack warnings actually broke any laws.

KTVU suggested that posting an official-looking sign was about the same as filing any false report and could be prosecuted under those laws.

KPIX essentially agreed, reporting that the use of the California State Parks logo to make the sign appear official was in fact an offense.

So, people, don’t decide it’s a cool thing to do to get the beach to yourself.

First of all, it won’t work, because the surfers will surf anyway. And, second, you’d feel pretty silly if you had to tell people you got arrested for posting fake shark attack warning signs.

Mitt Romney’s Hurricane Sandy comments, made this week, are yet another sort that indicate the former presidential contender is not very good at feeling empathy for the everyday American dude.

During a conference this week, Mitt Romney’s Hurricane Sandy comments seemed to tipify the view most Americans have of Romney, whether or not they supported President Obama. While the rest of us were kind of freaked out that people died and drowned and much of the Eastern seaboard was underwater, Mitt felt bad for a different reason — it made the President look kind of good.

Yes, while everyone where I live was busy being without power and other necessities to remain alive for weeks on end — with many still displaced today — Romney’s Hurricane Sandy remarks indicate that suffering that isn’t due to Mitt Romney not getting what he wants is suffering Mitt Romney can’t see.

Ugh.

Mitt Romney’s Hurricane Sandy remarks weren’t the GOP contender’s first tone deafness about the devastating event. While my uncle, in his 60s, bailed out his small business (literally) with a bucket due to six foot high floodwaters and President Obama suspended his campaign to respond despite election proximity, Mitt and Ann ran a useless campaign rally slash food collection drive because maybe people could build rafts with cans of tuna, or fashion a hut to live in with bags of popcorn?

Hurricane Sandy killed 285 people in seven countries, and Mitt Romney is so sad it happened — sad because it made President Obama look good, what with the bipartisanship and caring and empathy and whatnot. Life is really unfair sometimes.

This is what Romney actually said this week about Hurricane Sandy when asked about Chris Christie’s willingness to work with the President when, you know, half of his freaking state was homeless and freezing:

“I wish the hurricane hadn’t happened when it did because it gave the president a chance to look presidential. But, you know, you don’t look back and worry about each little thing.”

Seriously. Did Mitt Romney’s Hurricane Sandy comments make you dislike him more, or are you used to this sort of thing by now?

Barefoot running may not be all it’s been cracked up to be. A new study says the recent move by some runners to ditch their shoes might not be as beneficial as some claims have suggested.

Researchers at the University of Colorado have revealed that results from a recent study conducted in the university’s Locomotion Lab find individuals run more efficiently with shoes rather than without.

The study was conducted by observing runners’ oxygen consumption and exhales of carbon dioxide. These measures were compared for participants, running with and without shoes.

What the researchers at CU found was that shoe-wearing runners used between three and four percent more energy while running barefoot than with light-weight shoes.

CU researchers say they were inspired to begin the study after hearing unverified claims about barefoot running.

Says Jason Franz, University of Colorado doctoral student heading the study: ”We started to see these claims that barefoot running, because you remove the weight of the shoe, is more efficient.”

The study was conducted with the assistance of volunteers, all of whom run without shoes on a regular basis and shared a similar tendency to strike the floor with the middle of the sole of their foot.

Participants ran on a treadmill in a laboratory, beginning with running barefoot (wearing lightweight yoga socks). Researchers, having devised a method of adding weight incrementally to subjects’ feet, measured how this affected runners, doing so with both barefoot and shoe running.

Subjects were also asked to run with a lightweight 150 gram running shoe with light cushioning but no arch support. Compared to running without the shoes, though with equivalent weight added, it was found that three to four percent more energy was exerted running barefoot.

Franz speculates that this is because, with barefoot running, the body must adjust to cushion impacts, which may itself require additional metabolic energy.

The 2013 MLB Draft was full of expected picks and one very confused commisioner. Mark Appel was selected eighth overall in the 2012 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates but he failed to sign, so he returned to Stanford University for his senior season and the move paid off.

Appel went first overall to the Houston Astros this year, but not before commissioner Bud Selig butchered the draft year.

“With the first selection of the 2000 first-year player draft, the Houston Astros select Mark Appel,” Selig said as he announced the first pick.

Wait, the year 2000? Yes, we all know Bud Selig has made a major impact since becoming the head of the Major Leagues in 1998, but he surely botched the draft year on Thursday on multiple occasions.

The 78-year-old went on to use the year 2000 over and over again with the No. 6 overall pick and the No. 8 draft pick. That’s three faulty year calls in the first 10 picks, but it wasn’t enough to overshadow Mark Appel’s big day.

Appel turned into the premier pitcher in the draft out of Stanford after another stellar season wearing the Cardinal uniform. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound hurler sported a 2.12 ERA in college this year with a 10-4 record and 130 strikeouts.

He’s now set in place to sign a contract with the Houston Astros to try and make his way to the Major Leagues. The Astros could use his help as they’ve fallen to the bottom of the MLB with the Miami Marlins, much less the American League, with a well below average record of 22-39.

The MLB Draft has been setup to make struggling teams contenders again and Mark Appel may just be the pitcher to get it done in Houston next to standout Bud Norris. His time will surely come, but he’ll first have to prove himself in the minor leagues.

The upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel won’t be dropping a pivotal scene which depicts a violent tornado in light of the real-life devastation in the town of Moore, Oklahoma.

The film sees Superman facing off against exiled criminals from his home planet of Krypton, but he also goes head to head with natural disaster. In this case, a tornado.

Director Zack Snyder said that he does not intend to change or drop the pivotal scene in light of the events in Oklahoma.

“He’s changed by those events,” Snyder said of the Superman character. “If anything, we feel like our Superman has a connection — not to make light of it — to the kind of grief that happens during those kinds of natural disasters. Also, in a sad way, even Superman can’t change that.”

Still Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in the film, said that the devastating EF5 tornado that hit Moore on May 20 has been on his mind.

“It’s a terrible tragedy, mother nature doing its thing,” Cavill said. “I hope that everyone who can salvage things can salvage things, grieve if they need to grieve, move on from stuff and repair and rebuild, if they have the opportunity. I can’t even imagine what it’s like.”

Films have altered scenes in the past in light of real-life tragedies. The film Gangster Squad pulled its initial trailer and re-shot an entire sequence following the deadly Aurora shooting last year.

Joan Rivers reportedly canceled her birthday party following the death of her sister.

The talented comedienne and Fashion Police host had a pretty big bash lined up at the Metropolitan Club to celebrate her 80th birthday. Although 300 people were invited to attend the festivities scheduled for Wednesday, she decided to scrap the plans after learning of her sister’s passing.

Rivers said that her sister, power attorney Barbara Waxler, was supportive of her comedy career early on. The comedienne credits her late sister with encouraging her sense of humor at a very early age.

Waxler’s obituary stated that she died “surrounded by loved ones.” However, a cause of death has not been made public as of this writing. The funeral service will be held in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Joan Rivers hasn’t made a lengthy public statement regarding her sister’s death. However, she did post an old photograph of Waxler on her Twitter page with the caption: “Rest in Peace.”

The Fashion Police host told TV Guide that she wasn’t the only member of her family with a natural gift for comedy. According to her, the entire family was hilarious.

“My father was a doctor and he was so funny people would laugh until they died. And my sister [Barbara] is a lawyer but she has great humor. And my grandson [Edgar] is funny and Melissa. You learn to see things crooked. When the whole family laughs at funny things it makes a big difference,” she told the publication.

The teen accused of a Facebook terror post has been set free, one month after he was jailed for a social network comment about the Boston Marathon bombings.

Cameron D’Ambrosio, 18, is the teen accused of the Facebook terror post, arrested and jailed May 1 after posting rap lyrics referencing the bombing.

In a case that became somewhat of a cause celebre for supporters of internet freedom and First Amendment rights, D’Ambrosio’s alleged Facebook terror post caused much debate over whether the comments were truly a legitimate threat warranting jail time.

Earlier this week, it appeared the prosecution would move forward with the Facebook terror post case and prior to that, bail for the teen accused of essentially being a bad rapper was set at a million dollars.

The lyrics prompting the Facebook terror post arrest were:

“F*** a boston bomb wait till u see the s*** I do, I’mma be famous rapping, and beat every murder charge that comes across me!”

Yesterday, however, D’Ambrosio got a break when a jury in the case refused to indict him based on the Facebook terror post accusation. Lawrence District Court Judge Lynn Rooney ordered D’Ambrosio’s release when the grand jury chose not to indict — but online freedom activists say the case’s implications remain.

Evan Greer of Boston’s Center for Rights and Fight For The Future commented:

“While today is a major victory for Cam, the chilling effect that this case has already had on free speech cannot be undone.”

Shirin Sinnar, assistant professor of law at Stanford University Law School, is quoted by Yahoo as saying about the Facebook terror post case:

“Law enforcement wants to preempt acts of violence before they occur … The risk is that you sweep in people who had no intent to cause a crime.”

If D’Ambrosio was convicted in the Facebook terror post case, he faced 20 years in jail.

School has or is about to end for many students around the country for summer break. Many excited kids are eager to start a carefree season of no homework – for those who are not summer school bound – and hot hazy lazy days by the pool with friends and family.

But for those who are impoverished and struggling, summer is a period of uncertainty and anxiety, as millions of low income school-aged children rely on the regularity of federally funded free and reduced meals offered when classes are in session.

Based on USDA estimations, nearly 21.4 million children receive free or reduced-price lunches at school on a typical school day. Some of the nation’s neediest kids receive breakfast, snacks, dinner and even backpacks of weekend food through school and after-school nutritional assistance programs. Therefore, many of these children go hungry when not in school.

A persistent deficiency of nutrition, added stress, and not having a safe environment to be during the majority of the day can impact a child’s ability to learn, maintain overall mental and physical wellness, and can encourage behavior problems. Couple that with the vast amount of academic knowledge children lose over the summer and the circumstances create a possible educational crisis in this country.

Programs, sponsored under the National Summer Learning Association, attempt to fill the gap as stats show disadvantaged children are at a higher risk of progressively falling behind academically, an ever growing deficit which can later lead to an increase of high school dropouts.

The National Summer Learning Association provides services to communities, school districts, and programs to support quality summer learning programs accessible to all youths – but target low-income youths who lack options during the summer.

Their families typically can’t afford to consistently keep groceries in the home or send their kids to day or stay-over camps. Instead, these children are left to languish with their strain and boredom, which leaves them vulnerable to put their idle hands into criminal mischief.

Local food banks also do what they can to help out those in need – finding the summer months have the highest demand for provisions as they must supplement the meal-loss for millions of kids from food-insecure homes. A household is considered to be food-insecure if they have difficulty providing enough food for everyone in the family because of a lack of means.

Summer break contributes the limit of resources as well as chronic unemployment and other serious economic setbacks suffered by people struggling to makes ends-meet and pay bills.

The exact details of Paris Jackson’s suicide attempt aren’t known but several sources are saying that the incident came shortly after she was told that she couldn’t attend a Marilyn Manson concert.

Since hearing the news, Manson offered Jackson a backstage pass to any of concert that she would like to attend and last night he dedicated one of his songs to the troubled teenager.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Manson took the stage in Los Angeles last night and told the crowd that he was dedicated the song Disposable Teens to Paris Jackson.

Manson said: “This song is for Paris Jackson.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the song, here are some of Manson’s lyrics: “And I’m a black rainbow/ And I’m an ape of god/ I’ve got a face that’s made for violence upon/ And I’m a teen distortion/ Survived abortion/ A rebel from the waist down.”

Earlier this week Manson sent his well wishes to Paris and told her that she had a VIP pass anytime she wants.

Manson said: “I hope you feel better. You will be on my guest list anytime you want.”

Paris reportedly slit her wrist and took several pills after she was told that she couldn’t attend a Marilyn Manson concert. Paris’ grandmother, Katherine, said that the 15-year-old was receiving medical attention but was “physically fine.”

Katherine said: “Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you … Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family’s privacy.”

On his program last night, Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly showed outrage and exasperation over the newest surveillance scandal to stem from the Obama administration.

O’Reilly reacted with disgust over the revelation that the government was collecting massive amounts of U.S. cell phone data, and debated the NSA program with fellow anchor Megyn Kelly. O’Reilly suggested that the government would use the data to target conservative groups, as it was alleged to have done in the recent IRS scandal.

The host cited Senator Dianne Feinstein’s defense of the program, the argument being that the information can only be used is there is “reasonable suspicion that the records relate to terrorist activity.” O’Reilly balked at Feinstein’s defense, and said that the government having all of that cell phone information is more dangerous than we may realize.

“Did you hear about the IRS scandal? Did you hear about the IRS taking personal information and feeding it out to left-wing websites?… You’re telling me that can’t happen here? It absolutely can happen! So, for example, some conservative senator calls Trixie at the Hot Licks Massage Parlor, guess who knows it? And guess who can put it out any time they want?”

He continued:

“Trixie has a number, the senator has a number, the guy goes like this, ‘Whoa!’ and zips it out to some website that could hurt the senator!”

O’Reilly also mocked the notion that Feinstein is still in the business of protecting American privacy, shouting: “Does that make you feel good? All right, is everybody fine with Dianne Feinstein protecting our privacy?!”

Kelly pointed to recent polls that have shown President Obama’s trustworthiness falling in light of the recent string of scandals plaguing his administration.

A Somali pirate attack was thwarted when 14 Indian sailors about a cargo vessel contacted anti-piracy ships from the EU and NATO, sending warships to chase away the armed men.

The pirate attack incident took place Wednesday when 12 armed men attacked the vessel, causing Dutch and Swedish warships to respond. The pirates were able to hijack the ship after the crew fled, but they were quickly intercepted.

The pirates steered the ship toward the coast but abandoned it as they came under attack.

Pirate attacks were once more common in the waters off Somalia, where roving bands of armed men have taken over ships that traveled near the African nation. In the past these pirates have seized freight ships carrying tens of millions of dollars worth of oil, demanding millions in ransom.

The pirates were once a kind of coast for the African nation, keeping ships from illegally dumping waste in its waters in the absence of a formal military. But over time the ships began hijacking other passing ships in order to be paid.

One of the most famous pirate attacks came in 2009, when pirates seized the MV Maersk Alabama and its crew members. The incident came to an end when NAVY Seals killed the hostage takes and freed the crew.

The story is being turned in to a movie this year directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum), and Tom Hanks has reportedly signed on to portray Captain Richard Phillips.

Phillips offered himself to save the lives of his crew members, an incident imortalized in the book A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea.

But anti-piracy patrols and armed guards on ships have now brought down the number of attacks considerably. The EU Naval Force said there hasn’t been a Somali pirate attack that led to a successful hijacking since May 2012. There were four pirate attacks this year, but none of them were successful.

Apple iRadio is nearing its inevitable release and now Sony has jumped on the Apple bandwagon.

Sources close to negotiations revealed on Friday that Sony and Apple have agreed to terms for the new platform.

Based on this news Apple has now allegedly signed deals with North America’s three largest music clearing houses. Those deals include Warner, Universal, and now Sony.

Apple’s iRadio platform is still missing a partnership with Sony/ATV, a joint publishing venture.

A report from tech site AllThingsD claims that any obstacles surrounding the Sony/ATV deal are smaller compared to other negotiations.

The dispute with the latter was caused by Sony asking to be paid for any play of a song, even if a user decided to skip that song after a few seconds of listening.

Apple isn’t fully out of the woods yet but with the iRadio platform expected to be announced at WWDC on June 10 I have a feeling any last minute terms will be wrapped up shortly and Spotify, Google Play, and other online streaming platforms will soon be clamoring to compete in an ever crowding space.

It’s still unclear if iRadio will follow the Pandora music radio platform or feature the on-demand playability offered by Spotify. Some reports have suggested that Apple will use a combination of radio play mixed with user and expert created playlists and on-demand music playback.

Specifics about the Apple iRadio and Sony deal have not been revealed to us at this time.

There hasn’t been a decent film made about Welsh since Danny Boyle’s cult classic Trainspotting. While we’re waiting for the director to make him Trainspotting sequel, is seems like we’ll have a promising film called Filth to tide us over.

Just going by the trailer this looks like a rather awesome ride for its lead James McAvoy. McAvoy who has taken on challenging roles before, seems to go to the land of no return as Bruce Robertson, who is a sex-obsessed, coke head, bigoted Scottish police officer. When he isn’t up to his usual sexcapades, he’s busy investigating a murder. Of course his investigation never lasts for too long because of his wild vices which includes, sex, drugs, and brooze.

Filth’s red band NSW trailer is impeccable. It’s all you want from a film that focuses on the down spiral of an off the wall character that McAvoy plays. Right away the visual scheme during McAvoy’s introduction is bold and flashy. It introduces a rough around the edges McAvoy as an “addict”, a “drug dealer”, “deranged”, “pervert”, “violent”, “corrupt”, “sick”, and lastly “filthy”. It’s obvious that if you aren’t willing to jump down the rabbit hole of an in your face exploration, then you may not be ready to see Filth.

What’s refreshing about the trailer is that it knows exactly what kind of movie it is, and it’s confident in its genre. The trailer is filled with energy, opening with a Studio 54 soundtrack with disco beats for a fast paced atmosphere. If that’s not impressive, musically speaking Filth has the master of all composer’s Clint Mansell turning out the film’s score.

Top that off with an impressive cast like Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Jamie Bell, and Imogen Poots and it looks like a recipe for a great film that may reach cult status.
