Pamela Anderson Commercial Sexist...To Men?

The banned Pamela Anderson ad has everyone talking about the commercial for its sexist portrayal of women. But what about men?

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Pamela Anderson ad was banned in the United Kingdom due to its sexual explicit content.

The Pamela Anderson ad seemed to be taking a cue from GoDaddy.com, which features supposedly sexy and funny commercials to advertise web domain registration. You’d think the gimmick would be old by now, but Crazy Domains seems Pamela Anderson could breathe fresh life into the marketing concept.

The Advertising Standards Authority, an independent British media regulator, banned the Pamela Anderson commercial because the man in the ad “viewed his female colleagues as sexual objects to be lusted after… The ad was likely to cause serious offense to some viewers on the basis that it was sexist and degrading to women.”

The ASA acknowledges the Pamela Anderson ad ban was solely because it was deemed to be sexist to women:

“The ASA understood that the ad was intended as a parody of a mundane business meeting and was intended to be humorous and light-hearted. Although the fantasy scene, which we considered was sexually suggestive, was limited to Adam’s imagination, we considered it gave the impression that he viewed his female colleagues as sexual objects to be lusted after.”

But what about men? Sexism goes both ways. Yes, obviously, the portrayal of the two businesswomen was degrading. But is it not also degrading to men to disseminate the stereotype of the man as only being interested in sex and outward appearances?

I mean, seriously, this is a business meeting. A quick google search shows that “women oversee 83 percent of direct consumer spending, own half of all public stock, and make up more than fifty percent of the talent pool.” 30 percent of businesses in the US are also owned by women. So it’s not like a man in any decent sized company would not be used to working with women on a regular basis without his hormones running wild.

Do you think the Pamela Anderson ad was sexist toward men as well as women?

Ethan Hawke Selena Gomez Movie

Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez are dodging more than traffic in the latest trailer for Getaway.

Directors Courtney Solomon and Yaron Levy’s movie may have a heat beating beneath its hood, but the trailer wants you to know one thing: there will be car crashes.

Ethan Hawke stars as a man desperately attempting to free his kidnapped wife. In order to get her back, he must complete a series of potentially deadly tasks from a mysterious man (Jon Voight). The premise sounds similar to 12 Rounds or Saw, except this one is behind the wheel of a car.

Our hero’s mission to rescue his wife is soon complicated by a would-be carjacker (Selena Gomez). He quickly discovers that he’ll have to rely on the scrappy girl if he wants to see his wife again. Judging from the trailer, a series of shootouts, explosions, and car crashes will soon follow.

Getaway is the latest effort from An American Haunting director Courtney Solomon. He’s also the man responsible for helming the seriously misguided 2000 fantasy Dungeons & Dragons. In other words, it’s hard to tell how this one is going to play out.

Ethan Hawke has been a very busy guy here lately. Last year he starred in the flawed bu enjoyable supernatural horror flick Sinister. This year he re-teamed with Richard Linklater and Julie Delpy for Before Midnight, the third installment of their Before series.

The talented actor can be seen next in director James DeMonaco’s horror thriller The Purge. Ethan Hawke stars as a man who tries to protect his family during an event where all crime is legalized for 24 hours. The film, which co-stars Lena Headey and Max Burkholder, opens this Friday (June 7).

Ethan Hawke fans can catch the actor alongside Selena Gomez in directors Courtney Solomon and Yaron Levy’s Getaway later this summer. This film opens acorss North American on August 30.

911 operator fired from job over FB

Dallas, TX – When are people going to learn that employers do peruse social media? Sometimes that content you consider free speech on your personal page, that just about anyone can see, can get you fired.

Ideally, we want to be free to tell it like it is. In reality, anything and everything we share can be subject to scrutiny and consequences – a fact April Sims learned after she was let go from her job for allegedly expressing her opinion on Facebook.

April Sims, a Dallas, Texas 911 operator was excused from her job Wednesday after several blatantly racist comments on her Facebook page were discovered by her employer – violating the police department’s social media policy.

The department’s social media policy prohibits employees from posting items or information that may adversely affect the morale, confidence, and public respect of the department. Based on the firing, it’s assumed it is frowned upon to share personal opinions on otherwise sensitive information regarding calls made to 911.

The 23-year-old, who had been working for the local authorities for several months, brazenly referenced work-related calls she received as an operator, quoted by KVUE as posting statements on her social media like:

“Black people are outrageous! They are more like animals, they never know how to act, just loud [expletive] always causing problems. I can count on one hand the black people I know who don’t have [expletive] for brains.”

A racially tinged, graphic post concerning a domestic violence call read, “You want to call 911 cause your boyfriend put his hands on you and you want to press charges when you don’t even know his real name?! Sure let’s make a police report for Dino, that is his street name.”

On another Sims alleged stated on her Facebook, “I can count on one hand the black people I know who aren’t selfish.”

After receiving harsh criticism over delays in 911 responses, Dallas police hired several operators back in December, including Sims. Typically, when officers are hired, their social media is screened, but operators are not usually subjected to the same process.

WFAA reports that when someone via Facebook inquired as to whether the girl’s account had been hacked Sims responded with “standing by every word.”

Henry Cavill Who Keeps Him Grounded and The Tonight Show

The news about actor Henry Cavill are reaching feverish proportions. With his blockbuster, Man of Steel ,in which he plays the title role of Superman, exactly a week away from being released, he seems to be everywhere, literally.

Even when you step away from your computer, you see him in television ads for the film or other promotions such as Gillette and RAM trucks. Walmart has partnered with Warner Bros. for this one and has merchandise with his likeness all over the store.

So how does he keep his ego from getting to his head? He credits his parents and siblings for keeping him humble and unpretentious. Mom and Dad Cavill, Marianne and Colin, and his four brothers, three of whom are much older, keep him with his head firmly on his shoulders.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Henry, who was born in Jersey in the British Channel Islands says, “My upbringing has kept me grounded. My amazing parents have always told me to remain humble and thankful for what I get.”

His parents should be very proud of him, because he comes across as a completely normal guy, well, as normal as a movie star can be. He says he likes to go home to visit his family and his brothers would not put up with any ego.

“My brothers threaten to kick my ass as soon as I’m not humble!”

Last night, the soon to be mega star, paid a visit to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show to talk about Man of Steel. He told Jay about how he did not pick up Zack Snyder’s call when he got the job offer.

He was also asked how his family reacted to him getting the part and he told the funny story about one of his nephews telling the teacher that his uncle is Superman, which of course got him in trouble until the kid’s mother clarified that he was indeed not lying about that.

It is a good thing for a celebrity to have strong family ties and in the case of Henry Cavill, his upbringing comes through loud and clear.

Beal Conjecture Solution Worth $1 Million

Beal Conjecture $1 Million

The Beal Conjecture solution is worth $1 million. The Beal Conjecture is associated with a math equation that has remained unsolved for 350 years. Fermat’s Last Theorem has been frustrating mathematicians for centuries, including Texas billionaire D. Andrew Beal. He is now offering $1 million for the solution.

Beal has unsuccessfully worked toward a solution since 1993. In 1997 he offered $5,000 for the solution. In 2000 the amount was raised considerably to $100,000. As the solution still has not been found, Beal raised the reward to $1 million.

Studying Fermat’s Last Theorem, Beal came to a partial conclusion, which only frustrated him further.

As reported by ABC News, He took his theory to R. Daniel Mauldin of the University of North Texas, who encouraged him to offer a reward for the solution. Beal offered the first reward 16 years ago. To date he has never received the correct solution.

Solving the Beal Conjecture will not only curb Beal’s frustration, it will revolutionize the field of math. Additionally, Beal has stated that he hopes the $1 million reward will encourage “young people to pursue math and science.”

To win the $1 million it is important to understand what is required. Fermat’s Last Theorem was published without a solution. As reported by Yahoo News, Fermat’s Theorem states that “no three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation a^n + b^n = c^n for any integer value of n greater than two.” Fermat stated that he had proven the equation. However, he never published the proof.

Beal’s Conjecture must be proven to collect the $1 million. The conjecture states that ” if A^x + B^y = C^z, where A, B, C, x, y, and z are positive integers with x, y, z > 2, then A, B, and C have a common prime factor.”

Proof of a solution and publication in a major scientific journal are strict requirements for the reward. Beal’s conjecture has frustrated mathematicians worldwide. However, Beal hopes that the increase in reward will finally lead to a solution.

Drugs less effective now than 40 years ago

Despite a consistent stream of new pharmaceuticals coming on to the market, it seems that drugs are less effective now than 40 years ago. This is despite the $50 billion that has been poured into producing new drugs since the mid-2000s.

A recently published report shows that the effectiveness of drugs has plummeted – based on the comparison between patients taking the real thing and those being given a placebo. This is a trend that has been happening since the 1970s. While already a significant blow to pharmaceutical companies, it could be a lot worse with the introduction of President Obama’s new healthcare law.

An independent research institute was setup as a result of this law to compare the effectiveness of different treatments for the same condition. These independent trials allow private insurers and government programs such as Medicare to stop paying for drugs that are less effective now than 40 years ago.

These older drugs are likely to be “generics”, which are often cheaper than the expensive brand names that currently deliver the most profits to drugmakers.

There are still drugs being developed that make big changes such as Gleevec, from Novartis, that greatly extends the life of leukaemia patients. More stringent trials would mean these breakthrough drugs still make it to market, but those that are merely a reboot could struggle to get approval.

Some think that drugs are less effective now compared with 40 years ago because patients are getting harder to treat. Clinical trial volunteers being those that haven’t been able to find a cure for their condition elsewhere so far.

Regardless, there are still proponents of this more stringent system that hope it will lead to a resurgence in cheaper drugs that are just as, if not more effective than those with a bigger marketing budget.

Have you got any experience with drugs being less effective now than they were 40 years ago?

ship killing missile

Norway has a ship killing missile.

Kongsberg, a Norwegian defense and aerospace firm, recently unveiled a Naval Strike Missile.

The 880 lb, 4 meter long weapon is capable of completely destroying (or severely damaging) a vessel with one shot. It is p0ropelled by a Microturbo TRI-40 turbojet and can travel nearly 100 miles over coastline, oceans and land.

The Miami News Day reports that the Naval Strike Missile can also perform evasive G-force maneuvers and has an imaging infrared seeker to detect targets with pinpoint precision.

Kongsberg recently tested out the missile and a camera onboard the KNM Trondheim, a frigate that was chosen as a target, shows the incredible impact of the missile.

The 275-pound high explosive warhead caused a giant fireball when it hit the 300 ft long ship and tossed debris into the Norwegian Sea off the coast of Andoy.

The Daily Mail reports that the ship was towed back to shore after the strike and Kongsberg is now examining the damage.

Stig Klynderud, who oversaw the operation, said: ‘The damage to the target ship was as expected and cleanup went according to plan.”

Here’s a video of the ship killing missile in action.

The Naval Strike Missile is currently being used by the Norwegian Navy. Kongsberg is currently developing a Joint Strike Missle (JSM) for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Fighter Jets which is used by the Air Force in the United States and Britain.

Trish Staine And Surprise Births, How Do Women Not Know They’re Pregnant?

trish staine

Marathon mom Trish Staine was, along with everyone else, surprised when back pain led to the birth of a baby she had no idea she was expecting — but now that this phenomenon has another clear example as well as a whole entire TV show dedicated to it, can we accept sometimes women don’t know they’re pregnant?

Trish Staine is 33, and believed she was done adding to her family when baby Mira (short for “miracle”) was born after she felt back stiffness. (A circumstance that will probably strike fear into the hearts of back crampy women everywhere.)

Much has been made over the fact Trish Staine’s husband had had a vasectomy, but the procedures are, as we know, not always successful. Clearly not in this case.

The claim a woman didn’t know she was pregnant as Staine says is always met with skepticism and anecdotal tales of how noticeable everyone else’s pregnancies were. But given the frequency with which this claim has been arising since the TLC show I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant began airing, it’s probably safe to say it’s actually not entirely uncommon to go the full length of a pregnancy without knowing that you are with child.

Not knowing you are pregnant isn’t unheard of, says Dr. Diane Horvath-Cosper of Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. In fact, Horvath-Cosper says she’s seen women arrive for treatment only to give birth to a surprise baby … seven times in seven years, she says, and that’s just births the doctor was present during.

Horvath-Cosper explains:

“I think people look at it and say, ‘How can that possibly happen?’ I can assure you it does … There’s a wide range of what’s normal in a normal pregnancy.”

Of course, the doctor admits, “know” can be an operative word here — and while women like Staine may not know they’re pregnant, some others may not “believe” they are pregnant:

“Denial is quite strong … They just convince themselves they’re not pregnant. … Usually people make the best of it.”

But how common is it for a woman like Trish Staine not to know she’s pregnant until the baby is crowning? A 2010 LiveScience article provides a shocking statistic — not only is it pretty common, it’s more common than triplets:

“A 2001 study found that a phenomenon called denial of pregnancy, in which a woman is unaware of her pregnancy until soon before her due date, happens about one time in every 475 births. And the same study found that cases in which a woman is unaware of being pregnant all the way up until labor begins occur about three times more often than triplets.”

Do you know anyone who has been in a situation like Trish Staine and not known until labor that she was pregnant?

Noah Pozner Sandy Hook

A Bronx, N.Y. woman who attempted to collect donations to Sandy Hook families following the Newtown school shooting has pleaded guilty.

Nouel Alba pleaded guilty on Thursday to charges that she fraudulently collected donations under the guise of charity for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December.

The 37-year-old entered her plea in Bridgeport Federal Court on Thursday afternoon.

On the day of the shooting, Alba set up a Facebook page to collect donations for the victims of the horrific shooting.

She claimed to be the aunt of 6-year-old Noah Pozner, a victim who emerged quickly as “the face” of the shooting in several media publications.

In the confusion, people started donating to her page, which she said would help pay for the boy’s funeral expenses.

A day later, Alba sent an email to the Sandy Hook PTA also asking for donations.

She was indicted in May after her scam was exposed by CNN‘s Anderson Cooper.

Federal investigators said that she returned the money donated in the name of Sandy Hook victims, but declined to reveal how much money she had managed to collect.

Nouel Alba

On Thursday, she admitted that she is not related to Pozner in any way and admitted to her scheme. She accepted a plea deal that would give her up to six months in jail. She could have faced five years in prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted without the plea. The charges of wire fraud and making a false statement carry a maximum of 25 years in prison.

She’ll be sentenced on August 29.

What do you think should happen to Nouel Alba, the woman who fraudulently collected Sandy Hook donations while posing as Noah Pozner’s aunt? Sound off!

Idaho POW Sends Letter To Family From Afghanistan

An Idaho POW captured nearly four years ago in Afghanistan has made contact with his parents, giving them hope that he is still doing as well as can be expected.

US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl disappeared from his base in Afghanistan on June 30, 1000,. and now is believed to be held in Pakistan. The family of the Idaho POW said they received a letter this week delivered through the International Committee of the Red Cross, one they are confident was written by Bowe.

There had been only sporadic communication with Bowe and long periods of uncertainty that led his family to question his health and whereabouts. The last video was received in February 2011.

It is still unclear exactly where the Idaho POW is being held. The US has said he is being held by the Haqqani Network, a Pakistan-based group labelled a terrorist organization, but Haqqani leadership said he was being held by a different Taliban group.

The captured soldier’s parents have rarely spoken to the media, but have spoken at rallies to support their son. Bergdahl’s parents did not share the contents of the letter they received this week.

“He was scripted and redacted but he was no doubt alive and his faculties fully functioning as of two months ago,” his father told a family friend, according to CBS affiliate KBOI. “They are being very careful with him. He is still highly valued at high levels.”

In Bowe’s hometown of Hailey, Idaho, have kept yellow ribbons on trees and light poles in remembrance. Obama also called the Bergdahls on Memorial Day 2012 to reassure them that the US was working for his release.

Bergdahl was a private at the time of his capture. The Army has given the Idaho POW the promotions he would have received during his Army career, and he will receive back pay he has earned while in captivity.

Maria Sharapova Advances To French Open Finals

Tennis star Maria Sharapova managed to pull off a French Open semi-final win against Victoria Azarenka despite some ugly shots and inconsistent play. Sharapova finished the match with a final score of 6-1 2-6 6-4.

Sharapova managed 12 aces during her up and down victory but also suffered through 11 double faults against the Belarussian.

Maria Sharapova managed to race through the opening set in less than half an hour before her gameplay turned sloppy. In the first set Sharapova allowed her opponent only 7 points. Azarenka struck back with brilliant shots and consistent play in the second set, finding the angles she was missing during her first 30 minute set. After a 30-minute rain delay the matches momentum shifted back in favor of Sharapova.

After the match Sharapova told reporters:

“I’m really happy with the way I came out from playing a tough match yesterday. I wish I could have carried that through in two – but I did the job and I’m happy from where I was in the beginning of the tournament to where I am today.”

Sharapova added:

“I just hope that I can improve for the next one.”

Sharapova will not face off against Serena Williams in the French Open final. Sharapova has lost her last 12 matches against Serena.

Speaking about her loss Azarenka revealed:

“Today I’m disappointed about the match and what happened out there, but overall I have to give myself credit for going one step further … Even though I lost today I still tried to come back and tried to make something happen, which before was much more difficult for me to do.”

In revealing the change in momentum following the 30-minute rain delay Azarenka added:

“I think the break kind of changed the momentum. I was just trying to make things happen too quick and started missing the ball.”

Do you think Maria Sharapova can overcome Serena Williams to claim the French Open 2013 title?

Sleep Deprived Men Worse at Gauging Sexual Interest

If you’ve been receiving a lot of female attention lately, it might be worth noting that sleep-deprived me are worse at gauging sexual interest than those who’ve had a good night’s sleep. According to a study from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, not getting enough sleep could swell your perceptions of how successful you are with the opposite sex.

The team of researchers took 60 college students (31 men, 29 women) and asked them to complete a survey about perceived intent/interest in both sex and commitment, both before and after a night of sleep deprivation. One of the questions was: “When a woman goes out to a bar, how likely is it that she is interested in finding someone to have sex with that night?”

When the group was well-rested, both sexes responded that men’s interest in sex was considerably lower than women’s. Following a night of sleep deprivation however, men seemed to think that women were much more interested in sex compared with their initial answer.

As proof that sleep-deprived men are worse at gauging sexual interest, the sleep-deprived group showed that they thought women were almost as interested as men. Women on the other hand, showed no change in their opinion, even after a bad night’s sleep.

Apart from sexual interest, the poor night’s sleep didn’t have any effect on how either of the sexes judged interest in commitment.

Sleep-deprivation has been compared with the effects of drinking alcohol, normally affecting the part of the brain that deals with decision-making. A reduced function in this area would mean men are less able to read social cues and other indicators of sexual interest, as well as process the ones they do see properly.

Guys – Have you ever felt like your perception was off while trying to get someone’s number? Ladies – do you think sleep-deprived men are worse at gauging sexual interest than others?

Botched nose job leaves patient without a nose

Tulsa, OK – On a vain whim, following a 2006 divorce, Vishal Thakkar, a New York transplant to Tulsa underwent what he thought was a routine rhinoplasty with a notably skilled, local plastic surgeon. Today after nearly 22 surgeries, like the Great Sphinx of Giza, Thakkar no longer has a nose and labors to breathe through a straw implanted in the middle of his face.

Following the initial surgery in 2006, Thakkar suffered breathing issues, enough to make sleeping and exercise uncomfortable. So he returned to Dr. Angelo Cuzalina. From 2006 to 2007 Thakkar endure a total of eight procedures, incurred several infections, and ultimately, in 2011, had his nose cut from his face.

Dr. Culzalina cited the reason for removing the nose was because of a present infection. However, the good doctor failed to forewarn the patient or wake Thakkar from his otherwise unconscious state on the operating table for approval.

Additionally, Thakkar had expressly requested the cartilage of his ears not be used during any of the procedures, but awoke after one to find they had, inquiring to a nurse, “What part of ‘under no circumstances, do not touch my ears, do you not understand?’” Thakkar received an apologetic email from the surgeon following that ordeal.

During another surgery, Culzalina removed cartilage from Thakkar’s rib cage, as they no longer had the ear cartilage to work with. Again, something Thakkar had not been apprised to prior to going under, and never imagined would happen.

Finally, on August 31st, 2012 Cuzalina sent Thakkar a form stating he would no longer work on him. “You are considered medically unstable, because of your ongoing threats and harassment against my staff, my practice, and me personally.”

As a result of the series of botched nose jobs that have left him deformed, Thakkar is suing Dr. Cuzalina – who, up until now, has not had a complaint filed against him with the Oklahoma Medical Board and is president of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, reports local Fox affiliate Fox23.

Thakkar has since consulted with other plastic surgeons – making it clear he does not intend to remain looking the way he does. “By the time I am able to breathe without pain and have a human-looking nose, I will have had 30 surgeries on my face thanks to Angelo Cuzalina.”

Other surgeons have indicated that Thakkar’s case is extremely unique and he will require the best in the field in hopes of remedying the deformity.

Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla 2014 sneak preview has been unveiled by Toyota, which has now released a ton of photos and videos about the world’s most popular car. About 40 million of the beloved sedans have been sold in 154 countries around the world, and Toyota isn’t too bashful to call its own product “iconic.”

In fact, they say that the new 2014 Corolla’s exterior design is built on their “Iconic Dynamism” theme seen on the Corolla Furia Concept car at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January. As far as I’m concerned, it’s gorgeous.

If I sound excited, hey. The emphasis on appearance might be nice bonus for a car that’s already great.

I drove a Toyota Corolla for 13 years — the same Corolla. It was already five years old when I bought it, and it went another 13 years with only routine maintenance.

Nope, my car wasn’t a beauty. It was a Toyota Corolla LE station wagon so it was pretty much a “mom” car. But it just wouldn’t quit, and it didn’t know how to break down.

The thing is, the good people at Toyota are tired of being loved for their reliability and laughed at for their sense of style. They want to be taken seriously for their art.

Here’s how Motor Trend described the Toyota problem:

“Despite criticism for being plain and appliance-like basic, the Toyota Corolla continues to sell in extraordinary volumes, always landing at or near the top of its class in monthly sales…It doesn’t move the needle, but it certainly moves metal off dealer lots. With the new 2014 Corolla, can Toyota silence its critics while still appeasing the masses?”

Well, I’m not sure what the critics are looking for at the price, but the new Toyota Corolla 2014 offers some interesting features.

LEDs headlamps are now standard, allowing for lighter and smaller headlights. The interior is more luxurious, with little touches like Bluetooth and pollen filters.

There will be a new LE Eco grade with a more efficient 140-horsepower 1.8-liter engine and better aerodynamics. “[T]he model remains committed to delivering world-class fuel economy in the compact segment,” Toyota said in a statement.

I’m not sure if the critics will ever admit that a car so many ordinary people rely on is beautiful too. But who cares?

Will you be taking the 2014 Toyota Corolla for a test drive? I will.

Poor Sleep Increases Heart Attack Risk In Women

Poor sleep can lead to heart attack in women

Women who get less than six hours of sleep a night are more likely to have a heart attack than women who sleep longer, according to a new study.

Aric Prather, an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, and the lead author of the study, said that poor sleep, especially waking up too early, seemed to play a significant role in raising unhealthy levels of inflamation in women with coronary heart disease.

“Inflammation is a well-known predictor of cardiovascular health,” Prather said in a university news release. “Now we have evidence that poor sleep appears to play a bigger role than we had previously thought in driving long-term increases in inflammation levels and may contribute to the negative consequences often associated with poor sleep.”

However, the same could not be said for men, even adjusting for demographic, lifestyle, and medical differences. Since most of the women in the study were postmenopausal, their lower levels of estrogen might explain the link between their higher levels of inflammation and their poor sleep quality.

“It is possible that testosterone, which is at higher levels in men, served to buffer the effects of poor subjective sleep quality,” the research team wrote into the study, which was published online in the Journal of Psychiatric Research Wednesday.

The five-year study, which began in 2000, followed nearly 700 people with coronary heart disease. The average age for the men in the study was 66, for women it was 64. The study found that women who reported very poor or fairly poor sleep quality showed 2.5 times the inflammation levels of men who reported poor sleep.

The study supports previous research that has linked poor sleep to chronic health problems, such as heart disease. The researchers said that their findings show potentially important gender differences, and provide proof that higher levels of inflammation may be part of why poor sleep can lead to heart disease and heart attack.

Dick Vitale To Eva Longoria On Twitter: ‘Your Ex Is AWESOME BABY”

Vitale has caused a social media laughing matter.

Dick Vitale surely knows how to stir things up on Twitter as he responded to Eva Longoria’s NBA Finals prediction with one of the oddest numbers you will ever see on social media from a sports figure. Vitale, the well-known basketball sportscaster, sent Longoria a tweet that was meant to be a nice response, but it’s interpretation has since become a laughing matter in sports media.

The 73-year-old has regularly been viewed as one of the most vibrant sports broadcasters of all-time, but his Twitter antics after Game 1 of the NBA Finals has the nation wondering if he knows how to handle social media.

By now, the popular basketball expert has probably re-read his tweet over and over again, wondering why he didn’t word things differently. There’s no possible way he meant any harm behind it, as Vitale has always been an upstanding analyst and rarely makes critical comments about anything other than “diaper dandies.”

Eva Longoria tweeted, “Go Spurs Go! I say Spurs in 5!”

After Tony Parker’s clutch shot at the end of the game, Dick Vitale tweeted a response to the 38-year-old actress that will blow your mind and give you a few chuckles in the process.

Here’s Vitale’s over-the-top tweet to Tony Parker’s ex-wife, who probably enjoyed reading just as much as anyone else. Before you check it out, let’s not forget that Vitale lives and breathes basketball so his approach to this tweet was probably based on the game, and not meant to disrespect Longoria’s past relationship with Tony Parker.

The tweet has since been re-posted over 4,500 times and even some of ESPN’s other analysts joined in on the odd comment by Vitale. Jemele Hill, another basketball analyst, sent a basic response that pretty much sums up the entire ordeal.

No harm no foul, right? Maybe not, as Eva Longoria never responded to Vitale’s tweet, nor does she have any reason to. Do you think Dick Vitale’s tweet to Tony Parker’s ex-wife was a little over the top?

Man Lost In Swamp

A man is lost in a swamp and his family blames police. James Irby, Jr., age 55, was pulled over during a routine traffic stop. Police report that he resisted arrest, ran into the swamp, and has now been missing for over a month.

Officers with the Wells Police Department in Mississippi state that they asked Irby to exit the vehicle so they could conduct a search. They report that he became combative after they discovered a “small amount” of marijuana.

As reported by WREG, the officers used a taser to subdue Irby when he resisted arrest. They stated that Irby then managed to break free and ran off into the swamp. The Memphis native is now lost in the swamp, and his family blames the police.

Irby’s family contend that the officers’ story is impossible. James Irby reportedly suffers from several medical conditions that have rendered him weak and frail. Viola Johnson, Irby’s sister, explains that her brother is sick with gout and cancer:

“I’ll never believe that he kept on running from the condition that my brother was in. I’ll never believe it … That’s the reason why y’all been giving us all the round around … You just done killed him and took him off somewhere else.”

As reported by News Channel 3, The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department has searched several different locations in a attempt to find Irby or his remains. Sheriff Bill Rasco explains that it is a priority as they want the family to have some closure. He has not commented on the family’s allegations of foul play.

The Walls Police Department has refused to comment on the incident.

The Memphis man is still lost in the swamp and his family wants answers. They refuse to believe a sick man could have escaped police, specifically after he was tased.

Xbox One Game Resale

When the Xbox One arrives for sale gamers will in fact be able to purchase used copies of the consoles games.

After Microsoft announced the arrival of the gaming console a lot of questions surfaced about MSFT’s control over the console experience. Some rumors said used games wouldn’t be available, a fact that rubbed Game Stop and other resellers the wrong way. Other rumors pointed to a “transfer fee” that would require someone buying a used game to pay a licensing fee to the developer and possibly to Microsoft.

So will gamers really not be allowed to purchase used Xbox One games? If they do will fees be associated with that access?

A new document that surfaced on Friday aims to answer all of those questions and more.

Keep in mind there are a lot of considerations when buying used Xbox One games but the ultimately response is better than some people thought about.

Curious to know what caveats will come with used Xbox One games? Here’s the full list of stipulations:

  • Buy the way you want—disc or digital—on the same day: You’ll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly.
  • Access your entire games library from any Xbox One—no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games.
  • Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console–regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.
  • Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.
  • Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.
  • Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

So basically publishers are going to be in charge of how their games are sold, a fact that could favor big retailers like Game Stop but push out smaller competitors all together.

The response from Microsoft hasn’t sat well with gamers who have taken to the r/gaming subreddit to complain about excessive DRM rules for the Xbox One and various other issues that affect gamers.

Reddit user faceless007 summed up the Xbox One issues with an eloquent explanation of the industry and how it should be viewing gamers:

The industry does not come first; consumers do. I have no sympathy for an industry that cannot properly stumble its way around a viable secondhand market like every other mature industry in the world… If this industry can’t find a way to make money off the primary market — even with DLC and exclusive pre-order content and HD re-releases and map packs and online passes and annualized sequels and “expanding the audience” and AAA advertising and forced multiplayer — then, if I may be so blunt, fuck it. It doesn’t deserve our money in the first place.

Loaning and renting games won’t be allowed at launch which will cut Gamefly and other competitors out of the market upon launch. That decision is just plain stupid on Microsoft’s part. Gamers want to invest in a system after they can test the various games available. Once a gamer finds their favorite titles they are more likely to purchase those titles and play them for longer periods of time. Gamefly and other similar systems also allow for better accessibility all around. A gamer may only purchase a small number of games but ultimately they help promote the console and engage in online play. The larger the eco-system the more likely other gamers are to jump onboard and purchase more games.

Do you think Xbox One DRM rules are out of hand and ultimately a damaging approach to game sales, rentals, and overall gameplay?

Baby Moose Rescued From Drowning

baby moose rescued

A baby moose rescued from a Pennsylvania river captured the hearts of many Facebookers, but the tale of the near-drowning moose calf (of course) didn’t sit well with all readers.

The baby moose rescued prompted a Facebook post from Four Rivers Fishing, telling the story of how a Pennsylvania doctor saved the little moosie from perishing in the waters of a southwestern Montana river — or one of those biggest catch stories, depending on how you look at it.

The Four Rivers Fishing baby moose rescue story, dubbed “of moose and men,” explains how Red Hill, Pennsylvania doctor Karen Sciascia hauled in the 25 pound moosling after the babe ran into trouble crossing the Big Hole River. (It’s too bad moose moms and dads can’t read because the name itself is pretty scary.)

Sciasia says the moose mom and baby moose were clearly in trouble when the guiding fishing trip happened by, and they had to act fast to ensure the little one wasn’t swept away in the rushing currents:

“We were watching this adult female struggling back and forth, and we didn’t see a baby until we got close … Mom kept pushing — the current was pretty swift. The mother bolted and took off across the river. She was trying to get across the main portion of the channel, and even she struggled.”

But during the Saturday excursion, the doctor says, the situation escalated quickly when the baby moose was dragged away from his or her momma:

“It was small, and the river was swift … We lost sight of the baby. It was hurtling downstream and was being pushed by the river. It was too small to ever fight the current … We got up alongside it, and I just grabbed the little bugger. I scooped it up from the river under its front legs.”

Sciascia continues:

“I tried to hold it out, not wanting to get my scent all over it, but it was basically limp … It was breathing, and with my hand on its chest, I could feel its heart beating real fast.”

The baby moose was rescued and placed on the banks, and Sciascia says that eventually the moose mom returned when she heard her baby crying:

“When we last saw her, we were heading downstream. The mother was heading toward it. She had come out of the woods and was heading toward her baby … It was cool to be in the right place at the right time.”

According to the fishing company, some readers complained about the baby moose rescue and said that baby animals should not be touched in the wild by humans unless absolutely necessary. (However, fear of subsequent maternal rejection may be a myth.)

Anonymous Hacker Who Outed Steubenville Rapists Facing Longer Jail Time Than Actual Rapists

Deric Lostutter hacker

Deric Lostutter, the hacker who exposed the Steubenville rapists, may end up facing more jail time than the rapists themselves.

In the Steubenville rape case, Deric Lostutter was the hacker who lead the Anonymous Op that exposed the suspects’ tweets, videos and Instagram photos that revealed them bragging about the incident, which ended up being crucial pieces of evidence in the case against them.

As a “thank you,” Lostutter could face up to 10 years behind bars for his connections to the Internet hactivist collective known as Anonymous.

Mother Jones reports that the FBI quietly raided Lostutter’s home over his connection to the Steubenville rape case. Known as “KYAnonymous” online, Lostutter spoke about the raid, his true identity and his motives for the first time in an exclusive interview.

“The goal of the media interviews is to get the entire nation to say ‘f*ck you’ to these guys,” he said.

Among the items collected in the FBI raid were Lostutter’s computers and XBox.

The 26-year-old corporate cybersecurity consultant arguably deserves the credit for exposing the Steubenville rape case to the nation, after he obtained and published tweets and Instagram photos showing students joking about the rape of a 16-year-old girl and belittling her. They were convicted in March.

Lostutter didn’t get involved in the case until he was contacted on Twitter by Michelle McKee, a friend of an Ohio blogger who sent him the tweets and Instagram photos.

“I was always raised to stick up for people who are getting bullied,” he said of choosing to publish the incriminating evidence.

Lostutter says that he wasn’t involved in any sort of hacking, having simply published freely-available information from social media accounts given to him. Another Anonymous hacker took credit for hacking the team’s Facebook page.

Whether or not he actually did anything illegal, Lostutter was investigated primarily for his ties to the hacker group, though he believes that Steubenville authorities organized the raid.

“They want to make an example of me, saying, ‘You don’t f*cking come after us. Don’t question us.”

Steubenville officials have been questioned by other media publications that speculate a cover-up was involved.

If he’s convicted, Lostutter could face up to 10 years behind bars, far more than the one- and two-year sentences handed down to the Steubenville rapists. He’s currently collecting donations for his defense here, and other Anonymous hackers are spreading the word on Twitter with hashtags like #opFreeKY and #SupportKY.

Regardless of his legal troubles, Lostutter has no regrets. ”I’d do it again,” he said.

What do you think should happen to Deric Lostutter, the hacker who exposed the Steubenville rape case? You might have negative opinions about Anonymous, but would we have ever known about this case if it weren’t for Lostutter? Should he really receive a longer sentence than the rapists themselves? Sound off!
